With their personal and possibly their family’s lives and health at risk, they must weigh the option of continuing to work or retreat to safety. This decision, made daily, is based on professional and personal values, how they perceive existing risks—including available protective measures, and their perception of the level and transparency of information they receive. Often, while clinicians get this information, support personnel do not, leading to absenteeism and deteriorating healthcare services. Leadership can use good risk communication (complete, widely transmitted, and transparent) to align healthcare workers’ risk perceptions with reality. They also can address the common problems healthcare workers must overcome to continue working (ie, risk mitigation techniques). Physicians, if they cannot sufficiently husband or improvise lifesaving resources, will have to face difficult triage decisions. Ideally, they will use a predetermined plan, probably based on the principles of Utilitarianism (maximizing the greatest good) and derived from professional and community input. However, despite acknowledgment of risk, the occupational death rate for healthcare workers is unknown. In contrast, the death rate for other professions with occupational risk, such as police officer or firefighter, has been well defined. With available information from federal sources and calculating the additional number of deaths from infection by using data on prevalence and natural history, we estimate the annual death rate for healthcare workers from occupational events, including infection, is 17–57 per 1 million workers. However, a much more accurate estimate of risk is needed. Such information could inform future interventions, as was seen with the introduction of safer needle products. El análisis y clasificación de la vegetación dan como resultado la descripción de tres asociaciones, 5 subasociaciones nuevas y dos comunidades dentro de la nueva alianza Ambrosio artemisioidis-Weberbauerocerion torataensis perteneciente al orden Oreocereo leucotrichi-Neoraimondietalia arequipensis y clase Opuntietea sphaericae. Se halló dos pisos bioclimáticos tropicales: Termotropical y Mesotropical en combinación con cuatro niveles de humedad u ombroclimas: Ultrahiperárido, Hiperárido, Árido y Seco. La vegetación de los ambientes áridos al sur de Perú puede llegar a ser muy variada y restringida a sus cuencas hidrográficas, siendo dependientes de condiciones húmedas extraordinarias que permiten deducir la importancia de conservar estos ecosistemas desérticos. Even though it began to spread to many other parts of the world, such as other Asian countries, the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East, the impact of secondary outbreaks caused by exported cases outside China remains unclear. We conducted simulations to estimate the impact of potential secondary outbreaks in a community outside China. Simulations using stochastic SEIR model were conducted, assuming one patient was imported to a community. Among 45 possible scenarios we prepared, the worst scenario resulted in the total number of persons recovered or removed to be 997 (95% CrI 990–1000) at day 100 and a maximum number of symptomatic infectious patients per day of 335 (95% CrI 232–478). Calculated mean basic reproductive number (R0) was 6.5 (Interquartile range, IQR 5.6–7.2). However, better case scenarios with different parameters led to no secondary cases. Altering parameters, especially time to hospital visit. could change the impact of a secondary outbreak. With these multiple scenarios with different parameters, healthcare professionals might be able to better prepare for this viral infection. Debido a la alta frecuencia de detección del glifosato en suelos agrícolas de Argentina y particularmente en la región pampeana, y a su efecto negativo sobre microorganismos benéficos; el presente trabajo tuvo como objetivos aislar y caracterizar bacterias del suelo con capacidad para solubilizar fósforo y para tolerar/ degradar el herbicida glifosato y evaluar sus potencialidades promotoras del crecimiento vegetal en plantas de maíz híbrido. Se aislaron un total de 9 cepas bacterianas provenientes de un suelo agrícola y uno prístino de la localidad de Balcarce (Buenos Aires, Argentina) que solubilizaron P en un rango de 249-973 μg mL-1 en medio con fosfato tricálcico. De ellas, tres cepas (denominadas P1, A2 y P12) crecieron en presencia de glifosato y evidenciaron la capacidad de degradarlo al ser cultivadas en medio con el herbicida como única fuente de P. Se destaca que la cepa P12 disminuyó la concentración inicial de glifosato en un 30% en un período de 72 horas. Las cepas fueron identificadas como Enterobacterias por secuenciación parcial del gen ARN ribosomal 16S (géneros Pantoea y Enterobacter). Un ensayo de inoculación, utilizando separadamente dos suelos de la provincia de Buenos Aires como sustrato: Arroyo Corto y Líbano; evidenció que las cepas A2 y P12 mostraron las mejores respuestas a la inoculación y produjeron un aumento significativo del contenido de materia aérea seca y fresca en las plantas de maíz, respectivamente. Estas cepas resultan promisorias como bioinoculantes y serán necesarios posteriores estudios para potenciar sus funciones en inoculaciones a campo.
