<text>The present work proposes a procedure to evaluate the economic impact of recycling cellulolytic enzymes in ethanolproduction from sugarcane bagasse process. Three scenarios of ethanol-producing plants of different capacities are set to make the theoretical calculations. The proposed procedure starts from the experimental results reported on the yield changes obtained at the laboratory level when the original enzyme is used and when it is recycled on one or two occasions. From the technological demands of enzymatic quality, some necessary mixtures are established so the levels of addition of original enzyme are evaluated for different levels of recycling of enzymes. The procedure then includes possible scenarios for recycling the enzymes one or several times and it establishes the economic impacts regarding reduction of raw materials. Since the process of recycling enzymes is planned for an industrial installation, economic estimates of the investment are made for a given capacity with and without recycling of enzymes. For the three capacities, the investment and production costs are estimated, as well as the investments required to be able to recycle the enzymes in the enzymatic hydrolysis stage. Recovery of investments is also considered and projected. The economic benefits of recycling enzymes increase as installed production capacity increases.</text>

Palabras clave: biología, genómica, bibliometría, proyecto genoma humano, ciencia moderna.ABSTRACTBiology has been revolutionized by the introduction of new disciplines, such is the case of genomics that introduced in the 80s has turned unlikely to modern science, the discipline refers to the study not only of genes but their roles, relations among themselves and with the environment. Arises, with the consolidation of the Human Genome Project and introduces us to a period of transition in which specific genetic knowledge becomes critical. Differs from other approaches in the type of information provided, the prospects for technical and intellectual improvements in the collection and use of data from the whole genome. (Murray, 2000).This work aims to investigate the recent Biology, in particular, to show the history of genomics, through literature search and bibliometric analysis.Key words: biology, genomics, bibliometrics, human genome project, specific genetic knowledge.</text>

<text>Little is known about the ecology and demography of the genus Magnolia. Magnolia dealbata Zucc. is an endangered species endemic to Mexico. Two contrasting populations of M. dealbata (one from the grasslands and other from a secondary cloud forest) were studied. We asked the following questions: (a) Are size structure (diameter at breast height, DBH) and infrutescence production significantly different between the two populations? (b) What are the populations’ growth rates (λ) based on an initial 1987 study? (c) Are the associated species diversity indices of these M. dealbata populations significantly different? The results show no significant differences between the population size structure (p=.094); the growth rates of the populations were 0.992 in grassland and 1.053 in secondary cloud forest. The number of infrutescences produced in year 2001 and DBH relationship were significantly linear (p.01) between their slopes. The diversity indices were not significantly different (p>.05), and only 54% of the species were common to both sites. Our study suggests that both populations are relatively stable and that the management history could impact more on the species composition than on the diversity indices. Rev. Biol. Trop. 54 (3): 997-1002. Epub 2006 Sept.
