<text>The cultural significance and relationships of societies with natural resources in urban areas constitute an important aspect that is still little explored in ethnoecology. The objective of this study was to describe and analyze the knowledge and practices of urban farmers, and how they categorize and control animals that are considered pests of cultivated plants. The survey was conducted in areas of cultivated vegetables in the vicinity of the Supply Logistics Center of Pernambuco (CEASA) in Recife, the capital of Pernambuco State, in northeastern Brazil. Thirty-three farmers were interviewed, who mentioned 13 animals as pests. The most frequent animal cited as a pest that causes injuries to cultivated plants was the ant, and the most frequent ecological relation cited was cochineals that were described as “mold”. The techniques used to control undesired animals are related to the cultural identity of the farmers and the market, resulting in a predominantly utilitarian perception of natural resources.</text>

The PRONAF (Programa Nacional de Fortalecimento da Agricultura Familiar) creation defines a unique moment regarding state intervention in Brazilian agriculture. Despite enhancements and covering ampliation this program still show ambiguity related even with its benefited public or its essential objectives. Regarding official rethoric productive orientation is mixed with more general goals like job creation, social inclusion, and territorial development. This paper tries to analyze PRONAF considering recent research carried out in the state of Rio Grande do Sul/Brazil, which was an agreement between IICA (Inter American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture) and Brazilian Government to create an action monitoring system and evaluate their impacts. Final data indicates strong evidences of social differentiation among family farmers.</text>

<text>The present study aims to analyze the innovation process in family agriculture through the appropriation of social technologies and information and communication technologies (ICTs) by family farmers. The method used was a systematic review of the literature of studies published in periodicals and proceedings of the Congresses of the Brazilian Society of Economics, Administration and Rural Sociology (SOBER) from 2007 to 2017. The research resulted in a total of 43 scientific articles analyzed and classified among the themes: social technologies, social innovation, information and communication technologies, and alternative technologies and other innovations for family agriculture. It was concluded that among the social technologies theme, it is noteworthy that only 12 could identify the type of social technology used in the study, and only 50% of these studies were registered and certified by the Bank of Social Technologies of the Banco do Brasil Foundation. Regarding ICTs, the studies pointed out that cell phones and the internet provide access to information and communication, strengthening ties between rural and urban. However, its use by farmers still focuses on leisure activities. The study also highlighted the importance of actors such as universities, cooperatives, solidarity economy enterprises, and municipal agencies in the process of disseminating these innovations in family farming.</text>

The physical-chemist and physiologic portrayal in the Harton plantain ripening process (Musa AAB Simmonds) in the system of organic production and conventional in the Cordoba - Colombia department, was carried out in the food analysis laboratory of the University of Cordoba, in order to establish the differences physical-chemist and physiologic between the system production already mentioned. To reach the objective was used a design completely at random with factorial repair two per five, with two factors that were the production system and the state of ripening. The analysis carried out were physics (resistance, ripening days); chemist (pH, °Brix, total and reduction sugar, starch) and physiologic (respiration rate to environmental temperature). The results obtained show that between the treatments (organic and conventional) during the ripening process, were observed signifi cant differences in the variables resistance, °Brix, pH, acidity; on the contrary in the variables reduction sugar, total sugar, starch they were a similar behave. The respiration index in organic plantain reached the high climacteric to 14 days and the conventional to 7; indicating that organic present a better behave postharvest facilitating its commercialization.</text>
