Los biocombustibles se están tornando en una alternativa cada vez más importante para los países, tanto en política agraria como para diversificar su portafolio energético. Debido a su naturaleza y a su interrelación con factores críticos como la tierra y el agua, nace la necesidad de estudiar y entender cómo las políticas públicas y el desarrollo de los mercados de biomasa pueden afectar la Seguridad Alimentaria. Se tomó a Colombia como caso debido a su contexto, en el que existen incentivos parael biodiesel y el bioetanol, tanto en la regulación de precios como en ayudas financieras para los productores. Se realiza una mirada sistémica sobre las relaciones entre los biocombustibles y la Seguridad Alimentaria. Esto se hace a través de un modelo causal en el que se plantean las relaciones de interdependencia entre las variables principales de estos sistemas. El análisis muestra cómo alincentivar la producción de biocombustibles se puede generar un decrecimiento en la producción de alimentos y poner en riesgo la Seguridad Alimentaria. Se plantea la necesidad de la construcción de modelos de simulación para cuantificar los efectos y evaluar las políticas actuales en el tiempo.  / Abstract. Biofuels are turning an increasingly important alternative for countries, both for agricultural policies and diversification of its energy portfolio. Due to its nature and interrelationship with critical factors such as land and water, there is a need to study and understand how public policies and development of biomass markets can affect Food Security. This paper takes a systemic view on the relationships between biofuels and Food Security. The selected case study is Colombia, because of its current incentives for biodiesel and bioethanol, regulation on prices and subsidies to producers. The study was done through causal models that propose the relationships of interdependence between the main variables of these systems. The analysis shows how the incentives to biofuel production can generate a decrease in food production, threatening Food Security. The analysis leads to the need to build simulation models to quantify and evaluate the effects of current policies over time. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: En el periodo 1999-2000 se realizó un estudio descriptivo en dos municipios del departamento de Santander, Colombia, que determinó el costo de canastas básicas alimentarias (CBA), para estimar índices de precios (IPC), su variación, e indicadores de SA relacionados con el salario mínimo legal vigente (SMLV). Se calcularon estadísticos de tendencia central y dispersión según el tipo de variables. Para el cálculo de los índices de precios al consumidor se utilizó el método de Laspayres. Para la comparación de éstos se utilizaron coeficientes de correlación de Pearson y de Sperman. RESULTADOS: No se encontraron diferencias en los IPC por municipio (p>0.05). Los IPC acumulados año son de un dígito. Los porcentajes de inseguridad alimentaria (IA) estuvieron por encima de 50%, encontrándose diferencias por municipio, en 1999 (p=0.04), en 2000 (p=0.88). La IA aumentó en promedio cinco puntos para el periodo 1999- 2000. Se necesita en promedio 1.24 SMLV por mes para acceder a una CBA familiar. CONCLUSIONES: La capacidad de compra del SMLV no satisface los requerimientos familiares de energía y nutrientes. La SA local seguirá deteriorándose, debido al comportamiento de sus determinantes. Se utilizaron registros geográficos de Ateles fusciceps tomados en campo y de estudios previos. Se evaluó el efecto de la proximidad de cada variable por medio de la prueba T de Student. Posteriormente mediante regresiones logísticas y por medio del Criterio de Información de Akaike (AIC) se seleccionaron los mejores modelos y se identificaron las variables más importantes. Se observó que tierras agropecuarias y zonas antrópicas tienen un efecto negativo para este primate, pues los puntos de presencia se encontraron alejados de éstas. Se evidencia también que Ateles fusciceps prefiere sitios cercanos a bosque, resultado que corrobora investigaciones previas, sin embargo también se encuentra una asociación con ríos, resultado que no ha sido reportado en estudios anteriores. Se encontraron dos modelos importantes para predecir patrones de presencia de este primate, el primero compuesto por: bosque nativo, ríos y zonas antrópicas (AICw=0.48), mientras que el segundo abarca: bosque nativo, ríos, zonas antrópicas y tierras agropecuarias (AICw=0.34). Estos resultados servirán de base para futuros análisis, dirigidos a la conservación de A. fusciceps. Partiendo de estas premisas y como base para la aplicación del manejo agroecológico de plagas teniendo en cuenta la diversidad biológica de las unidades productivas, se evaluó el nivel tecnológico de 24 fincas del municipio Camagüey, mediante un diagnóstico participativo de la biodiversidad, que nos permitió trazar líneas de trabajo para avanzar en esta dirección. En un inicio el grado de complejidad de las fincas clasifico como poco complejo, nivel tecnológico que logro elevarse en el transcurso de un año mediante un proceso de reconversión del agroecosistema, a medianamente complejo con la aplicación de prácticas agroecológicas que diversificaron el hábitat de las mismas. Estos resultados permitieron incrementar los rendimientos en diferentes cultivos al minimizar las afectaciones por plagas, aumentar la relación presa-depredador y proteger el ecosistema con la aceptación por los agricultores de las tecnologías propuestas. Se logró aumentar los beneficios económicos de las familias por el aumento de los rendimientos y una mayor oferta de productos, a la vez que diversificaron el ecosistema y obtuvieron producciones más limpias con una mejora del medioambiente y la salud humana. En la actualidad a nivel global, marcado por un conjunto de peligros que amenazan la existencia de la especie humana, existe un reto principalmente en el contexto rural: ¿cómo hacer coexistir la agroenergía, la seguridad alimentaria y la protección del medio ambiente?, en presencia de cambios climáticos, degradación ambiental, crisis alimentarias y la creciente contradicción biocombustibles vs alimentos, generada por una insensata política para obtener agrocombustibles de primera generación a partir de grandes extensiones de monocultivos alimentarios, lo que es moralmente rechazable. También los biocombustibles son considerados como una alternativa ecológica a los combustibles fósiles, por su capacidad de reducción en la emisión de gases de efecto invernadero y por promover el desarrollo de comunidades rurales en los países del Sur; ello se potencia en los sistemas agroforestales integrados, en los que se pueden producir biocombustibles, tanto de primera como de segunda generación, sobre todo con la aplicación del concepto de biorrefinería que posibilita convertir la biomasa en múltiples productos, cuyo valor agregado total puede ser mayor que el generado por los combustibles fósiles. A este propósito contribuyen los proyectos internacionales, que promueven la producción integrada y sostenible de alimentos y energía en el contexto de sistemas agroforestales integrados, a escala local. Los autores consideran que la ejecución de proyectos y experiencias sobre agroenergía tiene el propósito principal de lograr la sostenibilidad energética y la seguridad alimentaria a escala local, en el medio rural, teniendo en cuenta la protección del ambiente.The objective of this paper is to offer considerations about agroenergy production from biomass in integrated agroforestry systems. At present, worldwide, marked by a group of hazards that threaten human existence, there is a challenge mainly in the rural context: how can the coexistence of agroenergy, food security and environmental protection be achieved?, in the presence of climate changes, environmental degradation, food crises and the growing biofuels vs food contradiction, generated by a senseless policy for obtaining first-generation agrofuels from large extensions of food monocrops, which is morally rejectable. Biofuels are also considered an ecological alternative to fossil fuels, because of their reduction capacity in the emission of greenhouse gasses and because they promote the development of rural communities in southern countries; this is enhanced in integrated agroforestry systems, in which biofuels, of first as well as second generation, can be produced, especially with the application of the concept of biorefinery which allows converting biomass into many products, which total added value can be higher than the one generated by fossil fuels. International projects, which promote integrated and sustainable food and energy production in the context of agroforestry integrated systems, at local scale, contribute to this purpose. Objetivo: describir la relación entre morbimortalidad por malaria con desnutrición proteico-calórica, anemia y deficiencia de vitamina A y de zinc en los niños e inseguridad alimentaria en sus hogares, al igual que el efecto de los suplementos poblacionales de retinol, hierro y zinc sobre morbimortalidad por malaria. Metodología: se consultaron Medline y otras bases biográficas. Resultados: la desnutrición proteico-calórica y las deficiencias de vitamina A y zinc, aumentan la morbimortalidad por malaria. Los estudios sobre los efectos de los suplementos poblacionales de micronutrientes en niños sobre morbimortalidad por malaria por P. falciparum muestran: los de vitamina A, sugieren efecto protector, los de zinc no tienen resultados concluyentes frente a la malaria pero otros beneficios y los de hierro, tienen efecto perjudicial. Los estudios sobre los efectos de tales suplementos sobre la morbimortalidad por malaria por P. vivax son incipientes y en el caso del hierro, parecen estar influenciados por la edad de los niños y si se usan solos o combinados con zinc. La malaria coexiste con la inseguridad alimentaria en el hogar y la prevención de esta última contribuye a reducir la desnutrición infantil y posiblemente la morbimortalidad por malaria. Conclusión: reducir la inseguridad alimentaria disminuirá la desnutrición infantil y las deficiencias de micronutrientes, así contribuirá a reducir la morbi-mortalidad por malaria. En zonas endémicas para P. falciparum, los suplementos poblacionales de vitamina A tienen resultados promisorios: los efectos de los suplementos de zinc no son claros aún y los de hierro son perjudiciales. The entity created to handle the winemaking was Junta Reguladora de Vinos, which began operations after 1935. At the same time that they put into execution the provisions adopted by this national institution, the provincial authorities in the producing region arbitrated various practices designed to offset the sharper edges of the crisis and to reposition the agricultural industry at local and national market. In the province of Mendoza provincial authorities prescribed, starting in 1936, some regulations aimed at modernizing the state apparatus in an attempt to achieve greater efficiency in the implementation of regulatory policies and making the machinery of government to the demands of the new stage. Al mismo tiempo que se ponían en ejecución las disposiciones emanadas de ese organismo nacional, las autoridades provinciales de la región productora arbitraban diversas prácticas destinadas a paliar las aristas más agudas de la crisis y a reposicionar a la agroindustria en el ámbito local y el mercado nacional. En la provincia de Mendoza las autoridades provinciales instrumentaron, a partir de 1936, algunas normativas destinadas a modernizar el aparato estatal en un intento de lograr mayor eficiencia en la aplicación de las políticas de regulación y de adecuar la maquinaria gubernamental a las exigencias de la nueva etapa. Un total de 21058 estómagos fueron analizados utilizando métodos bivariados y el Modelo de Árbol de Regresión Multivariado (ARM). Se utilizó como variable respuesta la composición gravimétrica de la dieta, con respecto a diferentes variables predictivas como años, profundidad de la isoterma de 15 °C, Índice de Oscilación del Sur (IOS), Índice de Oscilación Decadal del Pacífico (PDO), anomalía de la temperatura superficial del mar, zona (norte, centro y sur) y distancia de la costa. Nuestros resultados nos permitieron identificar dos escenarios diferentes, uno desde el año 1977 al 2000, donde la dieta del jurel T. murphyi estuvo fuertemente dominada por Euphausiidae, y otro escenario después del 2000, donde el jurel T. murphyi consumió mayor diversidad de presas, principalmente Euphausiidae, camaroncito rojo Pleuroncodes monodon y Zoeas. Se destaca que el primer escenario corresponde a condiciones cálidas y el segundo a condiciones frías, ambas coincidentes con los periodos multidecadales. A diferencia de estudios anteriores que muestran que la anchoveta Engraulis ringenses una presa abundante, en este estudio no fue significativamente importante. Espacialmente, los Euphausiidae dominaron la dieta en el norte-centro de Perú, mientras que al sur, la composición de las presas fue más diversa. La dieta también varió significativamente según la distancia a la costa, con mayor proporción de P. monodoncerca a la costa y con respecto a su etapas de desarrollo ontogenético. Se estudiaron cuatro especies de agaves de tres estados de la república mexicana: Agave angustifolia (Oacaxa), Agave tequilana (Jalisco), Agave salmiana y Agave lechuguilla (Hidalgo). Luego de una clasificación taxonómica, fenológica, ecológica y etnobotánica (basados en morfología comparada), se sometieron a diversos análisis físicos (humedad, molienda, tamizaje, granulometría y características foliares, MEB) y químicos (cenizas grasas y aceites, proteínas, análisis TGA y DTGA, así como FTIR). Las especies de A. angustifolia y A. tequilana son las que presentan un óptimo tamaño de fibra para la elaboración de papel. Corresponde también a los mayores porcentajes de celulosa (44.3% y 36.8%) por DTGA. Del análisis proximal, se evidencia que las dos especies definidas como mejores para la obtención de pulpa de celulosa, presentan pequeñas diferencias significativas en contenidos de grasas, proteínas, material solubilizable en agua caliente (AT) como en solución moderadamente alcalina y/o alcohólica.
