Objetivo : Evaluar la resiliencia de sistemas de producción expuestos al huracán Irma en territorios de Cuba.Materiales y Métodos: Se determinó el índice general de resiliencia a ciclones tropicales (IGRct), que se contrastó con el coeficiente de diseño y manejo agroecológico (CdmA). Ambos se complementaron con la valoración de la sensibilidad de las especies productivas y la vulnerabilidad de los sistemas de cultivo y ganadería.Resultados: Los sistemas de producción se agruparon en tres conglomerados, con mayor contribución para estos agrupamientos por su capacidad de resistencia durante el evento y su transformabilidad permanente, así como por el diseño y manejo de la matriz del sistema de producción y la estructura de la agrobiodiversidad. La sensibilidad de las especies cultivadas mostró ciertas diferencias para los tipos de plantas en el siguiente orden: cultivos agrícolas anuales y temporales > cultivos agrícolas semipermanentes > frutales arbóreos > plantas herbáceas permanentes. La vulnerabilidad de los sistemas de cultivo y ganadería en cada sistema de producción estudiado resultó menor para los sistemas del conglomerado III, en los que se mantuvo 62,5 % de los cultivos. Esto contrasta con el conglomerado I, en el cual 38,5 % de la producción se rescató durante el proceso, mientras que en los sistemas del conglomerado II se logró mantener 2,7 %.Conclusión: Los sistemas de producción que adoptaron la agroecología expresaron diferentes capacidades de resiliencia, lo que se relaciona con los caracteres que aportan el diseño y manejo de los sistemas de cultivo y ganadería existentes, así como el resto del sistema de producción.

Los sistemas eléctricos se ven amenazados por diversos factores que afectan la continuidad en el suministro de electricidad, a la economía y a las personas; los eventos extremos tanto derivados del cambio climático o de los desastres naturales, identificados como riesgos de baja probabilidad pero de alto impacto han causado grandes apagones a nivel mundial. La resiliencia es un aspecto que define la capacidad de los sistemas de energía para recuperarse de los disturbios sean de corta o larga duración. Se aborda la conmutación de líneas de transmisión para incrementar la resiliencia del sistema y reducir costos totales en el contexto del despacho económico. Se resalta los aspectos considerados en las publicaciones que abarcan la temática de la resiliencia en los sistemas eléctricos, la conmutación de las líneas de transmisión bajo escenarios de evaluación de contingencia N-1, y, la planificación de expansión de transmisión comprendiendo los planteamientos de distintos autores y sus conclusiones. En la literatura técnica revisada, se visualiza el alcance de sus resultados para direccionarlos para el estudio de la Restauración Óptima de la Operación de Sistemas Eléctricos de Potencia mediante la Conmutación de Líneas de Transmisión. Se determina que el punto de partida es el flujo óptimo de potencia DC (DCOPF), encontrándose la mejor solución y sobre todo la minimización de los costos totales de despacho.

El objeto de estudio es analizar y comparar cómo responden regantes y abastecimientos a situaciones de sequía en el Sureste de España en el siglo XXI, con el ejemplo de las de 2005-2008 y 2017-2018. Metodológicamente es un estudio de geografía regional con análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo, diacrónico y comparado, y trabajo de campo. Entre las fuentes utilizadas sobresalen la consulta de archivos históricos, los datos de AEMET, los consumos de agua en abastecimientos y regadíos, y las entrevistas a gestores y usuarios. La respuesta ante las sequías del siglo XXI ha sido dispar. En la de 2005-2008, en el regadío hubo que reducir la superficie de arbolado; en abastecimientos, se recurrió a pozos de sequía y cesiones de derechos. En la de 2017-2018, se han aplicado nuevas tecnologías en sistemas de riego y de cultivo, aparte de algunos aportes de desalinización; en el caso de los abastecimientos, se ha completado la oferta con agua producto de la desalación. La gestión del agua se enfrenta al reto de escenarios de cambio climático en el que serán más frecuentes sucesos extremos como sequías e inundaciones que generarán dificultades (fallo de garantía de suministro) para satisfacer las demandas hídrica y alimentaria de una población creciente.

Así, el presente artículo pretende abordar la estructura ecológica y las áreas verdes de la ciudad de Lima (vinculadas al entorno del río Rímac) que poseen potencial para producir las condiciones físicas más propicias. Todo ello a fin de alcanzar la resiliencia y la sostenibilidad urbana, en búsqueda de una mejor calidad de vida para los ciudadanos y de un sistema de adaptación ante fenómenos climáticos adversos desde la ecología urbana.

This article analyzes the strategies resulting in the production of family farming systems in response to imbalances generated by formal regulatory changes. The research methodology was based on ethnography, following techniques features interviews and participant observation fieldwork in social anthropology. This strategy essentially qualitative, allowed us to analyze the consequences of transitions households own products and traditional farming systems, the economics of quality that characterizes the New European Rurality has had a special development in Spain for the strong implementation European Initiatives LEADER I, II and + from 1991. To this end, and based on a complex and systemic perspective, we study different production systems of farming families Cheesecake Sierra de Cádiz, this perspective to analyze the changes that led to generate two different but complementary models: the artisanal and industrial. Our work demonstrates the resilience of family economies of traditional cheesemakers producers, who continue to coexist with new industrial producers in the competitive market for quality food products. The persistence of some and the appearance of others, demonstrates the resilience of rural economies to the new challenges of globalization and the complexity of the new rurality.

Bitter vetch (Vicia ervilia (L.) Willd.) is a legume well adapted to cultivation in marginal areas, being an important source of protein for animal feed in low input cropping systems. Surprisingly, it is an underutilized crop as it could be a good alternative to increase the sustainability of extensive rainfed cropping systems. In Mediterranean rainfed cropping systems, the productivity of bitter vetch is severely reduced by the parasitic weed species Orobanche crenata (Forsk). To date, few resistant bitter vetch genotypes have been identified. O. crenata infection process initiates with the recognition of germination factors exuded by roots of susceptible hosts. In this work, the interaction of a collection of bitter vetch accessions and O. crenata has been analyzed in order to discover accessions with low germination induction activity. Through a combination of field and rhizotron experiments, two bitter vetch accessions were selected showing low germination-induction activity, which resulted in less infection. In addition, in vitro germination assays revealed that the low germination activity was due to low exudation of germination factors and not due to the exudation of germination inhibitors. The selected low germination-inducers genotypes could be the basis for a new breeding program generating locally adapted alternatives with resistance to O. crenata.

En los últimos años la producción ovina dio señales de crecer en la Región Metropolitana (RM) uruguaya y aparecer como una posibilidad para los agricultores familiares de dicha región. En particular una producción ovina basada en el manejo agroecológico se plantea como alternativa para estos agricultores. El presente estudio analiza la situación de la producción ovina en la RM, especialmente aquella basada en un manejo agroecológico, buscando identificar y evaluar esta propuesta productiva como posible alternativa de resistencia para la agricultura familiar de la Región. Para ello se analizan sus principales posibilidades y limitantes. Se realizó investigación documental y bibliográfica para analizar las transformaciones de realidad agraria y producción ovina de la Región en los últimos años. Se implementaron entrevistas a técnicos y productores con vínculo y experiencia en el tema, así como un Grupo de discusión. En el trabajo se evidencia que el crecimiento que tuvo la producción ovina en los últimos quince años en la RM se dio especialmente en pequeños establecimientos de agricultores familiares, contrastando con el desarrollo histórico de esta producción en el país. En relación a la producción ovina agroecológica, existen experiencias incipientes que generan interés en consumidores y algunos productores, aunque es casi nulo su espacio en la investigación y las políticas públicas, con muy poco conocimiento acumulado en el tema. Avanzar en la investigación, la formación y principalmente en el debate sobre la necesidad de cambios en los modelos tecnológicos en el interior de las organizaciones de agricultores familiares, aparecen como movimientos necesarios para hacer de la producción ovina agroecológica una alternativa viable.

Acholeplasma (A.) laidlawii is an opportunistic pathogen with the ability to disseminate resistance determinants to antibiotics; however, its resistance to macrolides has been less studied. The aim of the present study was to characterize the mechanisms responsible for the resistance to macrolides, tiamulin and lincomycin found in a strain of A. laidlawii isolated from a pig with pneumonia. MICs of erythromycin, 15- and 16-membered macrolides, tiamulin and lincomycin were determined by microdilution method with and without reserpine, an inhibitor of ABC efflux pumps and regions of the genome were sequenced. Reserpine only decreased lincomycin MIC but it did not change the MICs of macrolides and tiamulin. The analysis of the DNA sequence of 23S rRNA showed nucleotide substitutions at eight different positions, although none of them were at positions previously related to macrolide resistance. Five mutations were found in the L22 protein, one of them at the stop codon. In addition, two mutations were found in the amino acid sequence of L4. The combination of multiple mutations in the ribosomal proteins L22 and L4 together with substitutions in 23S rRNA DNA sequence was associated with the resistance to macrolides, the pleuromutilin and lincomycin in the studied A. laidlawii strain.

El daño por congelación en los tejidos vegetales es considerado un estrés abiótico principal en los cultivos frutales. Sin embargo, las plantas han desarrollado mecanismos de resistencia al frío. Para una especie y órgano en particular, dicha resistencia es variable a lo largo del año, en función (principalmente) de la temperatura ambiental. Las temperaturas bajas, sin llegar a ser de congelación, también afectan las etapas reproductivas mediante la disminución de la actividad de los agentes polinizadores y la alteración del proceso de fecundación. Las reservas nutricionales influyen en la resistencia a heladas mediante la degradación del almidón en compuestos osmóticamente activos, que aumentan la capacidad de sobreenfriamiento del tejido vegetal. La elección del sitio de cultivo, los cultivares más resistentes a heladas y la implementación de prácticas de manejo, permitirían la disminución en la aplicación del control activo contra heladas, volviendo eficiente el uso de los recursos y disminuyendo el daño ambiental. La existencia de modelos predictivos permite adelantarse a los posibles efectos perjudiciales del calentamiento global y, por lo tanto, seleccionar con anticipación los materiales vegetales adecuados para el nuevo escenario.
