Considering the importance of this species in the generation of income for family agriculture and in the preservation of areas with natural vegetation, this study aimed at providing knowledge on the distribution of natural colonies of M. scutellaris in the state of Bahia. Literature information, interviews with stinglessbee beekeepers, and expeditions were conducted to confirm the natural occurrence of the species. A total of 102 municipalities showed records for M. scutellaris, whose occurrence was observed in areas ranging from sea level up to 1,200-meter height. The occurrence of this species in the state of Bahia is considered to be restricted to municipalities on the coastal area and the Chapada Diamantina with its rainforests. Lo anterior se realizó utilizando la metodología de Zonificación Agro-Ecológica (ZAE) propuesta por la FAO para las condiciones actúales y para el escenario de cambio climático (RCP8.5), esperado a mediados del siglo XXI. Asimismo, se estimaron los rendimientos potenciales para tres niveles de insumo (bajo, medio y alto) en las áreas resultantes muy aptas, para ambas condiciones climáticas. The study is a qualitative-quantitative research, with phenomenology as its theoretical-methodological matrix. The collection method was the use of semi-structured interviews with 13 residents of the communitary association Sweets Forest Secrets. The analyses showed that the residents present a systemic vision of the environment, correlating the water production directly with the presence of the forest fragments. The socio-environmental responsibility of the community was evidenced due to the dependence of natural resources for survival, as well as the need to take care of their place. Residents presented production techniques that aim to maximize reuse allied to the discussion of the need for organic cultivation. Since the sequence data from each sample typically consist of a large number of reads and are adversely impacted by different levels of biological and technical noise, accurate analysis of such large datasets is challenging.There has been a recent surge of interest in using compressed sensing inspired and convex-optimization based methods to solve the estimation problem for bacterial community composition. These methods typically rely on summarizing the sequence data by frequencies of low-order k-mers and matching this information statistically with a taxonomically structured database. Here we show that the accuracy of the resulting community composition estimates can be substantially improved by aggregating the reads from a sample with an unsupervised machine learning approach prior to the estimation phase. The aggregation of reads is a pre-processing approach where we use a standard K-means clustering algorithm that partitions a large set of reads into subsets with reasonable computational cost to provide several vectors of first order statistics instead of only single statistical summarization in terms of k-mer frequencies. The output of the clustering is then processed further to obtain the final estimate for each sample. The resulting method is called Aggregation of Reads by K-means (ARK), and it is based on a statistical argument via mixture density formulation. ARK is found to improve the fidelity and robustness of several recently introduced methods, with only a modest increase in computational complexity.An open source, platform-independent implementation of the method in the Julia programming language is freely available at https://github.com/dkoslicki/ARK. A pesquisa foi realizada em 50 propriedades produtoras, pertencentes a comunidades rurais (Santo Amaro e Ramada), no período compreendido entre os meses de janeiro a fevereiro de 2018. Para isto, foram utilizadas como recurso metodológico, entrevistas semi­estruturadas in loco, que consistiam no preenchimento de um formulário com 14 questões, sendo três sobre o perfil dos entrevistados e as demais sobre as culturas produzidas e tipo de armazenamento empregado. Constatou-se que o tipo de recipiente para armazenamento de grãos mais utilizado é o de garrafas plásticas, devido sua praticidade, durabilidade e por dispor de condições favoráveis para a conservação de grãos. No entanto, os produtores rurais do município de São Francisco-PB possuem pouco conhecimento relacionado as técnicas de armazenagem, apresentando ainda perdas significativas de grãos durante o processo de armazenamento. Sementes de feijão cultivar Mulatinho provenientes de cultivo orgânico de Marechal Cândido Rondon-PR, safra 2010/2011, foram submetidas aos tratamentos: testemunha; termoterapia: 60 °C em estufa de circulação forçada por três horas; folhas de Eucalyptus grandis: foram cortadas em pedaços pequenos e misturadas às sementes; e alho+óleo+cinzas: 100 gramas de alho e 500 mL de óleo Glycine max para cada 60 kg de sementes, sendo estes amassados e misturados às sementes, e, ao final, misturadas às cinzas. Após os tratamentos, as sementes foram armazenadas por 120 dias em embalagem impermeável e em condições ambientais controladas (10 ± 3 °C e 36 ± 3% de umidade) e não controladas (mantidas em temperatura ambiente). Após o armazenamento foram determinados: grau de umidade, massa de mil sementes, 1ª contagem do teste de germinação, germinação final, índice de velocidade de germinação e sanidade.
