                <text>La industria de alimentos, bebidas y afines requiere métodos analíticos para el aseguramiento de la calidad fisicoquímica, microbiológica, bromatológica, sensorial y la estabilidad de materias primas, procesos y productos terminados. Éstos métodos deben brindar datos en tiempo real, que permitan ejercer control y trazabilidad de cada uno de los procesos implicados y que garanticen seguridad e innocuidad de los productos alimenticios. Los métodos analíticos tradicionales implican determinaciones gravimétricas, volumétricas y colorimétricas con niveles de sensibilidad limitados para la determinación de trazas, y con poca especificidad. Aunque los métodos cromatográficos constituyen herramientas robustas, reproducibles y con capacidad de alcanzar niveles de detección del orden de partes por trillón, son costosos e implican tratamientos muy exhaustivos de la muestra. Los biosensores son dispositivos analíticos conformados por un elemento biológico de reconocimiento asociado a un mecanismo de detección e interpretación de la señal obtenida de la interacción entre el analito y el dispositivo analítico, constituyéndose en una herramienta para inspeccionar la calidad y los procesos con un panorama prometedor con respecto a los métodos tradicionales, en cuanto a especificidad, sencillez, respuesta clara y real en las áreas ambiental, clínica y de alimentos. La presente revisión comprende diez años del desarrollo de estos dispositivos y su aplicación a la investigación en alimentos y homólogos; contribuyendo con aplicaciones para el control de procesos automatizados y no automatizados, detección de micotoxinas, identificación de factores antinutricionales, residualidad de contaminantes orgánicos tradicionales y emergentes (pesticidas, antibióticos, hormonas, dioxinas, furanonas, entre otros), seguimiento y control microbiológico, presencia de organismos genéticamente modificados, alérgenos y composición nutricional, entre otros. El objetivo de este estudio es dar una visión general y actualizada de la aplicación de la tecnología de biosensores en el análisis de alimentos y su potencial dentro de los sistemas de seguridad alimentaria.The food, drink and related industries require analytical methods to secure physico-chemical, microbiological, bromatological sensory quality and stability of raw materials, processes and products. These methods must offer real time data that allow to control and to monitor each process to safeguard the innocuity of the nutritional products. The traditional analytical methods have to deal with gravimetric, volumetric and colorimetric determinations with limited sensitivity levels for trace determination, and with little specificity. Although the chromatographic methods show highly reproducible results and the limit of detection is as low as parts per trillion, these methods are expensive and imply very exhaustive treatments of the sample. Biosensors are integrated devices consisting of a biological recognition element and a transducer capable of detecting the biological reaction and converting it into a signal which can be processed, becoming an important tool to check the quality and processes. The present approach shows promising advantages compared to traditional method. This paper presents a ten year development of these devices and their application to food investigation and similars; contributing with applications for the automated and not automated process control, mycotoxins detection, identification of antinutritional factors, residuality of traditional and emergent organic polluting agents (pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, dioxins, furanones, among others), monitor and microbiological control, presence of genetically modified organisms among others. The objective of this study is to review paper and updated information on the use of biosensors as a technology in food analysis and its advantages within the food security systems.</text>

                <text>Los bioactivadores son productos que activan el crecimiento y desarrollo de las plantas mediante el aporte de compuestos directamente utilizables; la asimilación de estos elementos incrementa la actividad normal de las plantas. El producto natural BIOSTA N, se presenta como un nuevo bioestimulante para el crecimiento de los cultivos. Es un producto que al ser aplicado sobre las plantas les proporciona un mayor vigor, asegurando más floración y fructificación. Contiene catorce elementos minerales, un adecuado contenido en ácidos húmicos de baja a media masa molar y al menos, tres familias de fitohormonas. El presente trabajo se llevó a cabo en áreas experimentales del Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Agrícolas durante los meses de octubre a diciembre de 2005 y 2006 y se realizó con el objetivo de evaluar la respuesta agrobiológica de plantas de tomate a la aplicación del producto natural BIOSTA N. En el diseño estadístico, se tuvo en cuenta un total de cinco tratamientos distribuidos en bloques al azar con cinco réplicas. Se evaluaron diferentes momentos de aplicación del producto (inicio de la floración y floración-fructificación). Los resultados mostraron un efecto positivo de este producto natural sobre el crecimiento, desarrollo, rendimiento y calidad de los frutos en el cultivo del tomate y demostraron que resulta un producto eficaz para su utilización en la producción de tomate en Cuba.</text>

                <text>The recent outbreak in severe acute respiratory syndrome – coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) has demonstrated the complete inability of nations across the world to cope with the pressures of a global pandemic, especially one in which the only current feasible treatments are those which deal with the symptoms alone and not the viral cause. As the death toll rises, scientists begin to fall toward new avenues of research, with novelty showing itself to be an incredible and so far, underrated resource. In this case, the use of biosurfactants in dealing with this pandemic justifies extensive study with their potential applications being in the prevention of viral spread; dealing with the symptoms that develop after the incubation period; directly targeting viral infected cells and preventing the spread of the virus throughout the host, all in addition to also acting as potential drug delivery systems and cleaning agents. This extensive avenue of biosurfactants owes to the simplicity in their amphiphilic structure which permits them to interact directly with the lipid membrane of the coronavirus, in a way which wouldn't be of significant threat to the host. Although it could possibly interact and affect the virus, it could also affect human internal organs/cells by interacting with lipid membrane, if (biosurfactant is) ingested, and it still needs further studies in human models. The structure of the coronavirus, in this case SARS-CoV-2, is detrimentally dependent on the integrity of its lipid membrane which encloses its vital proteins and RNA. Biosurfactants possess the innate ability to threaten this membrane, a result of their own hydrophobic domains across their amphiphilic structure. With biosurfactants additionally being both natural and sustainable, while also possessing a remarkably low cytotoxicity, it is of no doubt that they are going to be of increasing significance in dealing with the current pandemic.</text>

                <text>During 2020, the world has experienced extreme vulnerability in the face of a disease outbreak. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic discovered in China and rapidly spread across the globe, infecting millions, causing hundreds of thousands of deaths, and severe downturns in the economies of countries worldwide. Biosurfactants can play a significant role in the prevention, control and treatment of diseases caused by these pathogenic agents through various therapeutic, pharmaceutical, environmental and hygiene approaches. Biosurfactants have the potential to inhibit microbial species with virulent intrinsic characteristics capable of developing diseases with high morbidity and mortality, as well as interrupting their spread through environmental and hygiene interventions. This is possible due to their antimicrobial activity, ability to interact with cells forming micelles and to interact with the immune system, and compatibility with relevant processes such as nanoparticle synthesis. They, therefore, can be applied in developing innovative and more effective pharmaceutical, therapeutics, sustainable and friendly environmental management approaches, less toxic formulations, and more efficient cleaning agents. These approaches can be easily integrated into relevant product development pipelines and implemented as measures for combating and managing pandemics. This review examines the potential approaches of biosurfactants as useful molecules in fighting microbial pathogens both known and previously unknown, such as COVID-19.</text>

Por lo tanto, las tendencias de consumo global en el mercado agrícola presentan nuevas oportunidades de negocios alrededor de bioinsumos, aditivos funcionales para alimentación animal, agricultura sostenible, bioremediacion de suelos y aguas, reproducción in vitro, semillas mejoradas con biotecnologías de punta; direccionadas a mejorar la calidad, el rendimiento y reducir al mínimo el uso de prácticas agrícolas tradicionales que consumen energía y contaminan el medio ambiente. Colombia actualmente cuenta con varios centros de investigación y universidades con dotación y capacidades para adelantar investigaciones en tecnologías de avanzada, pese a que existen estudios importantes en el campo agrícola y pecuario, el alcance de la bioprospeccion en el país es bajo, en comparación a otros países latinoamericanos, como Brasil con más de 800 centros de bioprospeccion, Costa Rica con 43, Colombia se encuentra en gran desventaja con alrededor de 20 centros, por lo tanto el esfuerzo para ubicarse a la vanguardia en investigación biotecnológica es muy grande y se requiere del fortalecimiento en investigación básica y aplicada, apoyada en implementacion de políticas institucionales de regulación y agilización de procesos biotecnológicos que desarrollen productos innovadores para que diferentes biotecnologías tengan éxito comercial, de acuerdo a los objetivos propuestos por el gobierno nacional.</text>

                <text>Exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) is a widespread phenomenon in nature. Although the mechanisms of action of EDCs are actively studied, the consequences of endocrine disruption (ED) at the population level and the adaptations evolved to cope with chronic EDC exposure have been overlooked. Birds probably represent the animal taxon most successfully adapted to synanthropic life. Hence, birds share with humans a similar pattern of exposure to xenobiotics. In this article, we review case studies on patterns of behaviour that deviate from the expectation in bird species exposed to EDCs. We provide behavioural and ecological parameters to be used as endpoints of ED; methodological requirements and caveats based on species-specific life-history traits, behavioural repertoires, developmental styles, and possibility of captive breeding; a list of species that could be used as sentinels to assess the quality of man-made environment.</text>

                <text>Atropellos mortales de aves en Aragón, España  La expansión de la red viaria y el aumento del tráfico de vehículos se  han convertido en una amenaza importante para los vertebrados en el  último siglo. Algunas estimaciones sitúan entre 2 y 9 millones de  individuos afectados anualmente en Europa, con variaciones entre países.  En España existen pocos estudios a escala nacional y autonómica. En  este estudio se ha utilizado la base de datos del Centro de Recuperación  de Fauna Silvestre de La Alfranca para determinar la localización,  temporalidad e incidencia de los atropellos de avifauna que se producen  en la comunidad autónoma de Aragón. Se han detectado 643 atropellos  mortales de aves silvestres (71 especies) entre los años 2012 y 2014.  Nueve de estas especies presentan una incidencia de atropellos alta;  cuatro, una incidencia moderada, y 57, una incidencia baja. La especie  con la mayor incidencia fue el buitre leonado (120 individuos). La  distribución espacial de los atropellos fue heterogénea y julio, agosto y  septiembre fueron los meses con mayor incidencia. Se identificaron 41  áreas de incidencia alta de atropellos, usando el índice de atropellos  mortales por kilómetro (RI): 28 en la provincia de Zaragoza, 9 en la de  Huesca y 4 en la de Teruel. Se proponen una serie de estrategias de  gestión con el fin de reducir esta amenaza para las aves silvestres.</text>

                <text>En este artículo se abordan aspectos teórico-prácticos de la Bitácora Zombi como acto narrativo y representativo del paisaje arquitectónico y urbano de San José, Costa Rica. Se sustenta en una mirada estética del entorno, con el fin de potenciar la información del espacio público al evidenciar conflictos de convivencia y marginación en el régimen escópico. A su vez, se reflexiona sobre la reconfiguración de la construcción visual de la realidad a partir de nociones como: ciudad posmoderna, hauntologías, ecología zombi, ruina moderna, turismo negro y ecología del miedo. Se emplean dos herramientas metodológicas de observación aportadas por la sociología visual: la primera se sustenta en la mirada urbana propuesta por el flâneur creativo mediante el andar figital (físico y digital) ejercido por derivas geolocalizadas, y la segunda implica la elaboración de un dibujo creativo del entorno transformado en cuaderno y documentación de viaje, que se subió a la red social Instagram, como arte urbano en línea.</text>
