There are several reasons for this disconnect, including lack of message potency (i.e., credibility and congruence), inflexible/habitual behavior patterns, prevailing beliefs (i.e., vulnerability to, and seriousness of COVID-19), and individuals valuing personal concerns above general public health. For official messages to be effective and advice adhered to, strong, coherent “strategic narratives” are required. This article, using a psychological perspective, critically examined prevailing COVID-19 UK Government announcements during the lockdown (23/03/2020) and initial easing phase (10/05/2020). Specifically, it focused on important communication inconsistencies, and identified factors that may facilitate and create barriers to the adoption of essential public health directives. This included deliberation of factors that enhanced source impact, diminished the influence of message content, and the negative consequences of contrary information. Accordingly, this article proposes a framework for providing a unifying strategic narrative on COVID-19, one that helps to maximize the impact of key messages and promote effective behavior change. This framework places an emphasis on engaging the full range of actors and considers ways of reducing the efficacy of false information. The article provides recommendations that will potentially improve the reception of government policy and suggests how strategic narratives can harness the drivers of behavioral change needed to meet challenges such as COVID-19. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the brief psychotherapy in a group of Caribbean Medicine students.  Methods: A monocentric study of psychotherapeutic intervention was carried out in 16 Caribbean students from the No. 1 Medicine Faculty in the University of Medical Sciences in Santiago de Cuba, during April, 2020, which presented diverse psychological and/or psychopathological signs due to the impact of COVID-19. The depression self-appraisal scale of Zung-Conde and IDARE was applied to all of them to evaluate the state of anxiety before and after the treatment; a semistructured interview was also carried out to deepen in the problem and to determine the emotional performance and the generating situations of those states. Results: The predominant sex was the female and the age range of more frequency was that of 20-30 years. After the intervention it existed a tacit reduction of the anxiety levels and the depressive symptoms, and there was a favorable clinical course. Conclusions: The psychotherapeutic intervention was effective, because it directly acted on the aspects related to the disease that instill fear to the students, and a good clinical answer was achieved. These uses raise concerns about its safe use in the setting of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, especially as 11% of African American men carry the G6PD A- variant. However, limited data exist regarding the safety of HCQ in this population. Study design and methods Recently, we created a novel “humanized” mouse model containing the G6PD deficiency A- variant (Val68Met) using CRISPR technology. We tested the effects of high-dose HCQ administration over 5 days on hemolysis in our novel G6PD A- mice. In addition to standard hematologic parameters including plasma hemoglobin, erythrocyte methemoglobin, and reticulocytes, hepatic and renal function were assessed after HCQ. Results Residual erythrocyte G6PD activity in G6PD A- mice was ~6% compared to wild-type (WT) littermates. Importantly, we found no evidence of clinically significant intravascular hemolysis, methemoglobinemia, or organ damage in response to high-dose HCQ. Conclusions Though the effects of high doses over prolonged periods was not assessed, this study provides early, novel safety data of the use of HCQ in the setting of G6PD deficiency secondary to G6PD A-. In addition to novel safety data for HCQ, to our knowledge, we are the first to present the creation of a “humanized” murine model of G6PD deficiency. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of the Covid-19 related experiences, educational experiences, and family functioning on mental health and wellbeing among children and adolescents in Chile during the Pandemic and lockdown health measures.Methods: This is a cross-sectional analysis of the first wave of an ongoing longitudinal study among girls and boys of Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade (4–18 years old) in Santiago, Chile. The sample consisted of 979 students from eight different schools. The method of data collection was online surveys administered to parents and adolescents. The dependent variables were mental health problems and wellbeing. Several independent variables were assessed (sociodemographic variables, Covid-19 related experiences, related educational experiences, and family functioning). A descriptive analysis and univariable and multivariable regression models were performed to study the association between variables.Results: Positive educational experiences, primarily academic self-concept, reduced the probability of mental health problems and increased wellbeing. Among covid-19 related variables, practicing meditation or praying reduced emotional problems, while having family or health problems increased emotional problems among adolescents. No clear association between Covid-19 related experiences variables among children was found.Conclusions: Our findings may help educational and public health authorities to plan future school preventive interventions to improve mental health and wellbeing in this population.
