Since late 2019, COVID-19 has rapidly spread in virtually all countries, imposing the adoption of significant lockdown and social distancing measures. The activation of the coagulation cascade is a common feature of disseminated intravascular coagulation and adverse clinical outcomes in COVID-19 patients. In this study, we conducted a meta-analysis aiming to investigate differences in serum D-dimer concentrations in patients with and without severe COVID-19 disease. An electronic search in Medline (PubMed), Scopus and Web of Science was performed with no language restrictions, and 13 articles were reporting on 1,807 patients (585, 32.4% with severe disease) were finally identified and included in the meta-analysis. The pooled results of all studies revealed that the D-dimer concentrations were significantly higher in patients with more severe COVID-19 (SMD: 0.91 mg/L; 95% CI, 0.75 to 1.07 mg/L, p &lt; 0.0001). The heterogeneity was moderate (I2 = 46.5%; p = 0.033). Sensitivity analysis showed that the effect size was not modified when any single study was in turn removed (effect size range, 0.87 mg/L to 0.93 mg/L). The Begg's (p = 0.76) and Egger's tests (p = 0.38) showed no publication bias. In conclusion, our systematic review and meta-analysis showed that serum D-dimer concentrations in patients with severe COVID-19 are significantly higher when compared to those with non-severe forms. Infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) presents with upper respiratory symptoms like cough, fever, and lethargy. At the same time, in later stages, critical COVID-19 patients develop acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), venous thromboembolism (VTE), and multiple organ failure from cytokine storm and coagulation hyperactivity. Primary manifestations of thrombotic events include deep vein thrombosis (DVT), disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Initial coagulopathy in COVID-19 patients presents with elevated fibrin degradation products, especially D-dimers. In contrast, late presentations show evidence of prolonged prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin (aPTT), increased platelets, and fibrinogen levels. Diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression are done by regular screening of laboratory parameters, including D-dimer and fibrinogen. Management of coagulopathy in COVID-19 patients is like that of critically ill patients, including thromboprophylaxis. Coagulopathy is a poor prognostic factor, and optimum strategies should be developed for early diagnosis, prevention, and prompt treatment of VTE in COVID-19 patients. Thrombosis prophylaxis with low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) has shown beneficial results in preventing coagulopathy a reducing risk of mortality due to thrombotic events. As praças são consideradas áreas verdes e atuam na manutenção da biodiversidade, equilíbrio climático e outras atividades vitais para qualidade de vida da população. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar as síndromes de polinização e dispersão em três áreas verdes urbanas na cidade de João Pessoa - PB. Foram coletadas 30 flores e 50 frutos em cada espécie, nas diferentes área de estudo. Para as flores foram observados caracteres morfológicos como cor, tipo de flor, sistema sexual e recompensa floral. Em relação aos frutos foram analisados a cor, consistência, deiscência e tipo de fruto. Foram encontradas 26 espécies de hábito herbáceo, distribuídas em 23 gêneros e pertencentes a 16 famílias. A família mais representativa foi Asteraceae com 5 espécies, seguida da Euphorbiaceae (4) e Fabaceae (3). Foram observados predominância de polinização melitófila (85%) e dispersão autocórica (52%) nas três praças estudadas. A praça da Independência apresentou maior diversidade de síndromes de polinização e dispersão para as espécies herbáceas.
