<text>Miombo is one of the most widely distributed ecosystems in Angola, with a great social and environmental value. Thus, the rural population uses the biomass as fuel and miombo provides important ecosystem services, such as its carbon sequestration capacity. The objectives of this work were (i) to assess deforestation in miombo forest in Huambo province (Angola) during the last 20 years, (ii) to evaluate carbon storage capacity of miombo, and (iii) to calculate the charcoal productive capacity of those forests. From 2000 to 2019, 359,130 ha (12.96%) were deforested in Huambo province. Thirty-six woody species were identified as major components of miombo forest, the most frequent being Albizia anthunesiana, Brachystegia spiciformis, Julbernardia paniculata, Monote spp., Brachystegia boemii, Isoberlinea angolensis, Anisophyllea boehmii, Syzygium guineense, and Erythrophleum africanum. The total biomass estimated in miombo forest was 195.05 Mg ha−1 (55.02 Mg ha−1 radical and 140.04 Mg ha−1 area), with a total wood volume of 78.57 m3 ha−1. This represents values of 91.67 Mg ha−1 of accumulated carbon and 336.13 Mg ha−1 of CO2 equivalent. The potential charcoal productivity was 15,359.9 kg ha−1, corresponding to 24.78 trees ha−1. The Annual Allowable Cutting Volume was 10.77 m3 ha−1 year−1, 14.13 m3 ha−1 year−1, 21.17 m3 ha−1, and 32.85 m3 ha−1 year−1 for rotation lengths of 55, 40, 25, and 15 years, respectively, corresponding to a potential annual charcoal productivity of 2107.08 Kg ha−1 year−1, 2762.96 Kg ha−1 year−1, 4139.21 Kg ha−1, and 422.56 Kg ha−1 year−1. However, deforestation rates in the last 19 years and low charcoal productive capacity could compromise the sustainability of the Miombo ecosystem and its value as an ecosystem service provider in the province if appropriate management strategies are not developed.</text>

Análisis: suelo (pH, conductividad eléctrica(CE), RAS, carbono orgánico total(COT) y particulado(Cp), N total(Nt), P extractable, NO3-, densidad aparente(Dap), porosidad (P), estabilidad estructural (DMP), agua de riego (CE, cationes y aniones), abonos orgánicos (materia orgánica, pH, Na, humedad). Horticultural and floricultural in greenhouse production requires intensive management with irrigation, fertilization and permanent tillage. This leads to irreversible soil degradation. Among the problems are those derived by sodicity, salinity, presence of toxic vegetables and loss of organic matter and physical fertility. Objectives: a) assess the impact of intensive greenhouse production of different chemical and physicochemical properties in two soils of the area during 21 years, b) analyze the effect of the application of different organic and chemical amendments on chemical, physical and physical-chemical variables on a Vertic Argiudol soil representative of the region with 14 years of continuous use in greenhouses, in order to select quality indicators. Soils: Serie Arturo Seguí. Antecedents: 0-21 years of cultivation under cover. Analysis: soil (pH, electrical conductivity (CE), RAS, easily oxidizable organic carbon (COT) and particulate carbon (Cp), total N (Nt), extractable P, NO3-, apparent density (Dap), porosity (P), structural stability (DMP)), water irrigation (CE, cations and anions), organic fertilizers (organic matter, pH, Na, humidity). Corrective treatments: T0 (witness), T1 (rice shell + gypsum + sulphur), T2 (compost + gypsum + sulphur), T3 (chicken bed (Cp) + gypsum + sulphur), T4 (gypsum ), T5 (sulphur), T6 (gypsum + sulphur). A progressive deterioration of the productive qualities of the soil was confirmed due to the linear increase of pH and sodicity curvilinear (RAS) and salinity (CE), curvilinear decrease of COT and extractable P increases irregularly, very high in some cases. Treatments with rice shell and chicken bed, both gypsum and sulfur addition, were the most effective for the control of the loss of organic matter (COT, Cp) and related physical properties (DMP, P, Dap) affected by use in a greenhouse for 14 years.</text>

<text>The degradation of Reactive Red 120 dye (RR-120) in synthetic waters was studied. Two processes were considered: homogeneous sono-Fenton with iron(II) sulfate and heterogeneous sono-Fenton with synthetic goethite and goethite deposited onto silica and calcite sand (modified catalysts GS and GC, respectively). In 60 min of reaction, the homogeneous sono-Fenton process allowed a degradation of 98.10 %, in contrast with 96.07 % for the heterogeneous sono-Fenton process with goethite at pH 3.0. The removal of RR-120 increased when the modified catalysts were used instead of bare goethite. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) measurements showed that the highest TOC and COD removals were achieved with the homogeneous sono-Fenton process. Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) measurements allowed confirmed that the highest value of BOD5/COD was achieved with a heterogeneous sono-Fenton process (0.88±0.04 with the modified catalyst GC), demonstrating that the biodegradability of the residual organic compounds was remarkably improved.</text>

<text>Due to a fast occupation process, nearly all of the native vegetal covering of northern Paraná was devastated. Considering the lack of basic studies that support the management of forest remainders, this dissertation studies the forest fragmentation of the landscape in a transect of 180 km (between Maringá and Jacarezinho), considering a time and/or age of occupation gradient. One has adopted the hypothesis that the landscape to west, colonized from 1930 (Londrina) and 1947 (Maringá), suffered smaller degradation in a comparison with what happened in the landscape situated further to east (and colonized in the mid 19th century and early 20th century). Results demonstrated that the initial hypothesis should be refute. Historical and factors socioeconomic influenced the occupation way and, consequently, the distribution of the forest fragments in the landscape.
