Este trabalho objetivou avaliar o crescimento do camarão Farfantepenaeus subtilis submetido a diferentes regimes de fertilização usando fertilizantes orgânicos e inorgânicos. O desenho experimental consistiu de três tratamentos e três repetições: controle (CT) – 3 mg L-1 de ureia e 0,3 mg L-1 de monoamônio fosfato; farelo de trigo (FT) – 25 g m-2; farelo de soja (FS) – 18,75 g m-2. Nove tanques de 500 L foram estocados com 16 camarões m-2 (≈ 2,7 g), os quais foram alimentados com ração comercial contendo 35% de proteína bruta. Quinzenalmente, a qualidade da água foi monitorada e amostras de camarões foram coletadas para avaliar o crescimento e reajustar a quantidade de ração. Durante o cultivo, a qualidade da água manteve-se adequada ao cultivo do camarão. Os dados de crescimento e sobrevivência demonstraram não haver diferença estatística (p > 0,05) entre os tratamentos. O crescimento médio e a sobrevivência foram de 0,44 g semana-1 e 75%, respectivamente.Portanto, os protocolos testados foram igualmente eficientes para o crescimento do F. subtilis e manutenção da qualidade da água.This work aimed to evaluate the growth of the shrimp Farfantepenaeus subtilis submitted to different fertilization regimes using organic and inorganic fertilizers. The experimental design consisted of threetreatments in triplicate: control (CT) – 3 mg L-1 of urea and 0.3 mg L-1 of monoammonium phosphate; wheat bran (FT) – 25 g m-2; and soybean bran (FS) – 18.75 g m-2. Nine 500 L fiber glass tanks were stocked with 16 shrimp m-2 (≈ 2.7 g). Animals were fed daily withpelleted feed (35% crude protein). Biweekly, water quality was monitored and shrimp samples were collected to evaluate growth and adjust the feed quantity. Water quality maintained adequate to shrimp culture during the experimental period. Growth results did not differ significantly (p > 0.05) among treatments. Mean growth rate and survival were 0.44 g week-1 and 75%, respectively. Therefore, the protocols evaluated were efficient for shrimp growth and water quality maintenance.

Subacute thyroiditis is a self-limiting inflammatory disorder, characterized by neck pain or discomfort, a tender diffuse goiter, and sometimes a transient episode of hyperthyroidism followed by euthyroidism and sometimes hypothyroidism. There is usually a normalization of thyroid function within a few weeks. Subacute thyroiditis has a higher incidence in summer and has been linked to a viral or bacterial upper respiratory postinfection inflammatory response. We hereby describe the case of a previously healthy 37-year-old female presenting with subacute thyroiditis associated with a very mild presentation of COVID-19. As most patients with SARS-Cov-2 are asymptomatic, we suggest to rule out SARS-Cov-2 infection in patients presenting with symptoms suggesting SAT.

The article presents a study of the environmental impact of dusting tailing dumps of rare-metal ore dressing in the Murmansk region of Russia. The purpose of the study was to establish patterns in the atmochemical halo migration of the dust pollution of loparite ore dressing tailings. The geotechnical characteristics and material composition of the tailings material have been investigated. Potentially dusty areas identified. Models of dispersion of inorganic dust under different meteorological scenarios are constructed: at low wind load, normal and unfavorable meteorological conditions. The modeling of the spread of pollutants in the area exposed to dust at the storage site was carried out in the program for modeling atmospheric pollution Ecolog-4.60. Calculation of the dispersion of inorganic dust containing 20–70% SiO2 showed that the atmochemical halo of tailings dust pollution spreads over tens of kilometers, and already at a wind speed of about 8 m/s, the concentration of suspended solids at the border of the enterprise sanitary protection zone exceeds the maximum one-time maximum permissible concentration is 3–3.3 times, and under unfavorable meteorological conditions—Dusting reaches the boundaries of the residential area (inhabited locality Revda), located in the north-west of the enterprise, and exceeds the MPCm.o. 1.5 times.

Las principales conclusiones indican que, a pesar del fuerte desarrollo alcanzado por el sector agropecuario, la posición de las mujeres del campo cordobés no parece haberse visto promovida o fortalecida, ya que, en general, la mujer rural continúa relegada a un papel secundario y marginada al rol de 'esposa del productor'.During the last decades, the Argentine agricultural sector has been characterized by a rapid and profound technological transformation. The main goal of this paper is to foster a discussion about the social impacts of technological change in the southern and eastern regions of the province of Cordoba focusing, in particular, on its repercussions on farm women and their role in agriculture. Based on an ecofeminist perspective, this study presents empirical evidence about various aspects related to population, employment and welfare. Our main conclusions show that, in spite of the remarkable development achieved by the agricultural sector, the position of Cordoba farm women does not seem to have been promoted or strengthened, since, in general, rural women continue to be relegated to a secondary role and categorized as 'farmer's wives'.

In the new millennium, the centuries-old strategy of quarantine is becoming a powerful component of the public health response to emerging and reemerging infectious diseases. During the 2003 pandemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome, the use of quarantine, border controls, contact tracing, and surveillance proved effective in containing the global threat in just over 3 months. For centuries, these practices have been the cornerstone of organized responses to infectious disease outbreaks. However, the use of quarantine and other measures for controlling epidemic diseases has always been controversial because such strategies raise political, ethical, and socioeconomic issues and require a careful balance between public interest and individual rights. In a globalized world that is becoming ever more vulnerable to communicable diseases, a historical perspective can help clarify the use and implications of a still-valid public health strategy.

Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is the receptor for COVID-19 (SARs-CoV-2). ACE2 protects the lung and heart from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and acute myocarditis and arrhythmias, because it breaks down Angiotensin II, which has inflammatory effects in the lung and heart as well as in the kidney. When SARS-CoV-2 binds to ACE2, it suppresses it, so this protective action of ACE2 is lost. Death from COVID-19 is due to ARDS and also heart failure and acute cardiac injury. Drugs that prevent the inflammatory actions of Angiotensin II (i.e., Angiotensin receptor blockers, ARBs) prevent acute lung injury caused by SARS-CoV. Clinical trials are underway to test the risks and benefits of ARBs and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) in COVID-19 patients requiring hospitalization. Other potential treatments are also discussed.

Sarcomas are rare cancers with a spectrum of clinical needs and outcomes. We investigated care experiences and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in sarcoma patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patients with appointments during the first two months of the UK lockdown were invited to complete a survey. Questions included views on care modifications, COVID-19 worry and psychosocial impact, and EORTC-QLQ-C30 items. 350 patients completed the survey; median age 58 (16–92) years. Care modifications included telemedicine (74%) and postponement of appointments (34%), scans (34%) or treatment (10%). Most felt the quality of care was not affected (72%), however, social life (87%) and emotional wellbeing (41%) were affected. Worry about COVID-19 infection was moderately high (mean 5.8/10) and significantly related to higher cancer-related worry; associated with lower emotional functioning irrespective of treatment intent. Curative patients (44%) with low resilient coping scores had significantly higher COVID-19 worry. Patients who did not know their treatment intent (22%) had significantly higher COVID-19 worry and insomnia. In summary, care experiences were generally positive; however, cancer-related worry, low resilient coping and uncertainty about treatment intent were associated with COVID-19 worry. These patients may benefit from additional psychological support during the pandemic and beyond.

A agricultura familiar é responsável pela maior parte da produção de alimentos em Santa Catarina e no Brasil. Em Joinville/SC a Associação Joinvillense de Agroindústrias Artesanais Rurais (AJAAR), um empreendimento composto por 49 associados, produz alimentos caseiros em diversos segmentos. Esta ação de extensão enfocou no segmento de panificados, no qual foram identificadas fragilidades, como a falta de identificação dos produtores, produtos de excelente qualidade em embalagens inadequadas e falta de padronização na aplicação da marca. Visando identificar, valorizar e diferenciar os produtos da AJAAR, esta ação desenvolveu um Sistema de Identidade Visual (SIV) e suas aplicações, incluindo as embalagens dos panificados. Para o desenvolvimento da ação utilizou-se o Guia de Orientação para Desenvolvimento de Projetos, resultando em refinamentos na marca, desenvolvimento de embalagens e demais aplicações, que já vem sendo implementados pela associação, permitindo concluir que atividades desta natureza são essenciais para oportunizar uma efetiva aproximação entre academia e sociedade.
