We studied the diet of 3 sympatric species of lizards (Sceloporus gadoviae, S. horridus, and S. jalapae) from arid tropical scrub forest in Puebla, Mexico. These species prey primarily on arthropods, mostly termites, ants, and beetles. Spring and summer rains caused an increase in available prey biomass. However, lizards continued using the same resources throughout the study. These 3 species of Sceloporus are similar in their diet, especially the smaller bodied species, S. gadoviae and S. jalapae. Termites are a very important food for the 3 species throughout the year and are a major resource during the rainy season, which is not consistent with the hypothesis that many lizards eat termites only in the dry season.La ecología, morfología y la filogenia contribuyen a la organización de los ensambles de lagartijas. Sin embargo, son pocos los estudios detallados sobre la organización de estos ensambles y más aún, con especies simpátridas. Estudiamos la dieta, reproducción y dimorfismo sexual de 3 especies simpátridas de lagartijas (Sceloporus gadoviae, S. horridus, and S. jalapae) de un matorral árido tropical en Puebla, México. Estas especies se alimentaron de artrópodos; principalmente de termitas, hormigas y escarabajos. Las lluvias de primavera y verano causaron un incremento en la biomasa de presas; sin embargo, las lagartijas continuaron usando los mismos recursos. Las lagartijas fueron especialistas consumiendo presas en relación a su abundancia. Las 3 especies fueron similares en su dieta, especialmente las especies pequeñas S. gadoviae y S. jalapae. Las termitas son un importante recurso para estas 3 especies durante el todo año y la principal fuente alimenticia en la estación lluviosa, lo cual no es consistente con la hipótesis de que muchas lagartijas comen termitas solamente en la estación seca. Based on morphometric and molecular evidence, these populations were identified as A. franciscana. In the 1990s, A. persimilis was recorded from southern Patagonia, a species previously considered endemic to Argentina. Recently, two new populations of A.franciscana have been recorded, from one saline coastal pond in northern Chile and from a saltwork in central Chile. The scope for further research to increase both understanding of the strain characterization and basic population ecology descriptions of the Chilean brine shrimps and improve their conservation status is discussed. It is suggested that future studies should investigate first the management of local brine shrimp population for local aquaculture or conservation resources, other direction would be the effects of ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposition that is notoriously high in brine shrimp habitats. This last factor is very important because the UVR is an important mutagen on the genetic structure of the populations. In this scenario, it is suggest a carefully management for introduced brine shrimp populations for local aquaculture for avoid alterations in native populations that due their genetic isolation would need conservation procedures for avoid local extinctions.El camarón de salmuera o Artemia ha sido estudiado en Chile desde la década de 1980, las primeras descripciones de poblaciones fueron para lagunas someras en zonas costeras y de montana, y en salinas artificiales en la zona central y norte de Chile. Sobre la base de evidencias morfométricas y moleculares estas poblaciones fueron descritas como A. franciscana. En la década de 1990, se describió la presencia de A. persimilis en la zona sur de la Patagonia, lo cual fue una ampliación del rango de distribución significativa, pues esta especie se le consideró endémica de Argentina. Recientemente dos nuevas poblaciones de A. franciscana fueron reportadas en una laguna somera en el norte y para una salina artificial en la zona central. El objetivo del presente estudio fue realizar una investigación para entender la caracterización de poblaciones y ecología básica de las poblaciones chilenas del camarón de salmuera y discutir como mejorar el estado de la conservación de estas. Se discute que a futuro los estudios se deberían enfocar primero al manejo de poblaciones nativas para acuicultura local o como un recurso para su conservación, otras orientaciones de estudio, podrían ser los efectos de la radiación ultravioleta (UVR) que es notoriamente alta en los hábitats del camarón de salmuera. Este último factor es importante porque la radiación ultravioleta es un agente mutágeno importante en la estructura genética de las poblaciones. Se siguieron los pasos de metodología de desarrollo de software ICONIX, que involucra las etapas de análisis de requerimientos, análisis y diseño preliminar, análisis detallado, codificación y pruebas al sistema. Finalmente se desarrolló una aplicación web facilitadora de las BPA que permite el seguimiento a las prácticas agrícolas, incluyendo un registro constante de las tareas que los agricultores realizan sobre sus cultivos, condición indispensable en estos procesos de certificación. El presente trabajo forma parte de la tesis doctoral de la autora titulada “El Borde Urbano. Un acercamiento paisajístico y funcional de los límites del suelo urbanizado en las ciudades medias españolas”, donde se definen los diferentes tipos de borde urbano. Para ello se establecen las relaciones entre los diferentes usos y paisajes que aparecen a lo largo de este límite. Con estas relaciones se establecen cuatro tipologías según diferentes aspectos; las barreras como condicionantes de la forma, cómo el límite histórico deja una huella en el límite actual de la ciudad, la manera en que la forma condiciona las relaciones entre ciudad y no ciudad y la imagen formal que muestra la ciudad al exterior.   ABSTRACT: The multiform city is the city without defined shape in the traditional meaning of bounded, measurable and organized layout. The medium size contemporary city has unlimited forms and unorganized structures that sprawl around the territory beyond the administrative boundaries. This research is part of the author's PhD thesis titled “The Urban Boundary. A landscape and functional approach to the boundaries of urban land in the Spanish medium-sized cities” where different types of urban boundaries are defined. Relationships between the different uses and landscapes appearing along this boundary are set in order to identify four typologies according to different aspects; barriers as constraints to urban morphology, how the historical boundaries are part of the contemporary urban fringe, how the boundary morphology determines the relations between city and no city, and the image that the city offers the countryside. Esta especie es dominante en el sistema por su abundancia numérica, peso, frecuencia y amplia distribución. Se obtuvieron 745 individuos con un peso total de 2 890.2 g y un intervalo de longitud total de 3.0 a 16.7 cm. La variación anual del coeficiente alométrico b fue de 2.71 a 3.45. El factor de condición varió de 0.711 a 0.934. Fueron obtenidas diferencias significativas (p< 0.05) entre las épocas del año y los hábitats del sistema para el peso, la longitud y el factor de condición K, lo cual refleja la utilización espacio-temporal del sistema por la especie. La población contenida en Pom-Atasta, está constituida principalmente por individuos juveniles, y escasos preadultos, en estadios gonádicos I, II y III, registrándose más hembras que machos. La especie utiliza el sistema como área de crianza, crecimiento y alimentación. Tiene un espectro trófico variado, consume al menos ocho grupos diferentes, siendo su alimento principal materia orgánica no determinada, foraminíferos, ostrácodos y tanaidáceos. Es un consumidor de primer orden. El sistema Pom-Atasta se ubica en una zona de intensa actividad pesquera y petrolera, por lo cual es importante avanzar en el conocimiento de sus recursos pesqueros.Size structure, gonadic development and diet of the fish Diapterus rhombeus (Gerreidae) in the Pom-Atasta fluvial-deltaic system, Campeche, Mexico. The fish Diapterus rhombeus was studied during an annual cycle from 1992 to 1993 in the fluvial-deltaic Pom-Atasta system associated with Terminos Lagoon, Campeche, Mexico. It is a dominant species in the system, based on its numeric abundance, weight, high frequency and wide distribution. A total of 745 individuals were obtained, with a weigth of 2 890.2 g and length ranging from 3.0 to 16.7 cm. The annual variation of the allometric coefficient b was from 2.71 to 3.345. The condition factor varied from 0.711 to 0.934. The statistical analysis shows significant differences (p< 0.05) between the seasons of the year and the habitats of the system for the weight, the longitude and the condition factor K, which reflects the space-temporal utilization of the system for the species. The population present at Pom-Atasta, consists mainly by juvenile and few preadults individuals in gonadal stages I, II, and III, and more females than males were recorded. This species utilizes the system as a nursery area, growth and feeding area. It has a varied trophic spectrum, and consumes at least eight different groups. Its principal food items are undetermined organic matter, foraminifers, ostracods and tanaidaceans. It is a first order consumer.
