Por lo anterior, sistemas de producción en jaulas flotantes, elaboradas con materiales de bajo costo y ubicadas en cursos de aguas naturales, constituyen una alternativa económica para estas comunidades. El objetivo fue evaluar el rendimiento productivo de la cachama blanca en jaulas flotantes, ubicadas en el río Manacacias, manejando tres densidades: 150, 200 y 250 peces/m3. Se sembraron alevinos en jaulas, con dimensiones de 10,2 m³ (3 x 2 x 1,7 m). Los peces fueron alimentados con alimento balanceado, durante 126 días. Al final del experimento, los individuos fueron cosechados. Se produjo una biomasa promedio por densidad de 47,42 kg/m3, en la densidad 150; 45,11 kg/m3, en 200 peces/m3 y 79,65 kg/m3, en la densidad 250. Su conversión alimenticia fue 1,1; 1,32 y 0,8, la sobrevivencia de 83,51, 78,98 y 93,72 %, respectivamente. La existencia de anillos anuales climáticamente sensibles en esta especie revela un enorme potencial para la dendroclimatologia tropical. Aunque se ha documentado la existencia de anillos anuales en el género Rhizophora delimitados por cambios en la densidad de poros, aquí se demuestra mediante el uso de la tomografía computarizada que los anillos en R. mangle también están definidos por cambios de densidad de la madera. La comparación entre el número de máximos de densidad de madera (DM) y de poros (DP) en secciones trasversales con la edad de los árboles, reveló la anualidad de los anillos de crecimiento de R. mangle. A mayor precipitación mayor DP y menor DM; y viceversa. La DM y la DP se interpretan como rasgos adaptativos que le permiten a R. mangle adaptarse a los pulsos anuales en salinidad relacionados con las descargas de los ríos en la bahía de Cispatá.Because of its location in the land-sea ecotone Rhizophora mangle is an organism with great sensitivity to climate change. The existence of climate sensitive annual rings in this specie highlights its potential relevance for tropical dendroclimatology. Even though had been previously established the existence of annual rings, delimited by changes in pore-density, in Rhizophora genus, using computed tomographies, is also possible demonstrate, that the rings in R. mangle can also be defined by changes in wood density. Comparing wood density maxima (DM) and pore density maxima (PD) in tree cross-sections reveal the annual nature of R. mangle tree-rings. With increased rainfall PD increases and DM decreases, and vice versa. PD and DM are interpreted as adaptive traits that allow R. mangle to adapt to the conditions produced by annual pulses in salinity in the bay of Cispatá related to high and low discharges of the rivers. Los modelos climáticos tanto locales como globales predicen que la precipitación pluvial de la árida Península de La Guajira en el Caribe colombiano se reduciría, y las temperaturas tanto del aire como superficial del mar aumentarían como consecuencia del cambio climático. Para tratar de verificar estas hipótesis construimos una cronología del ancho de los anillos de crecimiento de Capparis odoratissima en la Media Península de La Guajira. La cronología mostró relaciones lineales estadísticamente significativas con las variables climáticas locales: temperatura del aire, temperatura superficial del mar (TSM), precipitación anual, velocidad del viento y variables climáticas del fenómeno ENSO (índices SOI y MEI). Las series de tiempo que calculamos mediante la función de transferencia entre 1955 y 2003, no mostraron tendencias estadísticamente significativas que demostraran que en ese período de tiempo la precipitación anual o las temperaturas han cambiado. La naturaleza anual de los anillos de crecimiento de C. odoratissima, la posibilidad de realizar datación cruzada entre muestras de esta especie y la alta correlación con las variables climáticas locales y globales, señalan un alto potencial de esta especie para realizar estudios dendrocronológicos en esta parte del continente americano.Paleoclimate of La Guajira, Colombia; by the growth rings of Capparis odoratissima (Capparidaceae). There is great concern about the effect of climate change in arid and subarid areas of the tropics. Climate change combined with other anthropogenic activities such as deforestation, fires and overgrazing can accelerate their degradation and, consequently, the increases in losses of biological and economic productivity. Climate models, both local and global, predict that rainfall in the arid Peninsula of La Guajira in the Colombian Caribbean would be reduced and temperature would be increased as a result of climate change. However, as there are only suitable climate records since 1972, it is not possible to verify if, indeed, this is happening. To try to verify the hypothesis of reducing rainfall and rising temperatures we developed a growth ring chronology of Capparis odoratissima in the Middle Peninsula of La Guajira with 17 trees and 45 series which attain 48 years back. We use standard dendrochronological methods that showed statistically significant linear relationship with local climatic variables such as air temperature, sea surface temperature (SST), annual precipitation and wind speed; we also reach to successful relationship of the chronology with global climatic variables as the indices SOI and MEI of the ENSO phenomenon. The transfer functions estimated with the time series (1955 and 2003) do not showed statistically significant trends, indicating that during this period of time the annual precipitation or temperatures have not changed. The annual nature of C. odoratissima growth rings, the possibility of cross-dated among the samples of this species, and the high correlation with local and global climatic variables indicate a high potential of this species for dendrochronological studies in this part of the American continent. Dentro de los artrópodos no insectos el ítem más representativo está en la Clase Arachnida (4%). En México se han encontrado diferencias significativas entre los factores propuestos por distintas fuentes, lo que sugiere desarrollar más estudios en las diferentes condiciones climáticas del país. Para desarrollar estrategias para mitigar las emisiones de CH4 por el ganado, debe ser posible cuantificarlas en una amplia gama de circunstancias, por lo que existen varios métodos tanto para estimarlas como para medirlas. El objetivo de esta revisión es compilar y difundir información sobre la emisión de CH4 por los rumiantes, sus posibles efectos en el calentamiento y en el cambio climático global, así como las alternativas existentes para su mitigación.
