As limited therapeutic antibody is accumulated in lung tissue following systemic administration, inhalation is newly recognized as an alternative, possibly better, route of therapeutic antibody for pulmonary diseases. The nebulization process, however, generates diverse physiological stresses, and thus, the therapeutic antibody must be resistant to these stresses, remain stable, and form minimal aggregates. We first isolated a MERS-CoV neutralizing antibody that is reactive to the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of spike (S) glycoprotein. To increase stability, we introduced mutations into the complementarity-determining regions (CDRs) of the antibody. In the HCDRs (excluding HCDR3) in this clone, two hydrophobic residues were replaced with Glu, two residues were replaced with Asp, and four residues were replaced with positively charged amino acids. In LCDRs, only two Leu residues were replaced with Val. These modifications successfully generated a clone with significantly greater stability and equivalent reactivity and neutralizing activity following nebulization compared to the original clone. In summary, we generated a MERS-CoV neutralizing human antibody that is reactive to recombinant MERS-CoV S RBD protein for delivery via a pulmonary route by introducing stabilizing mutations into five CDRs. The selected scFvs were characterized under genetics-molecular aspects and for SARS-CoV N protein detection in ELISA, western blotting and immunocytochemistry. This foodborne illness, which reportedly most likely originated in a seafood market where wild animals are sold illegally, has transmitted among humans through close contact, across the world. The aim of this study is to explore health/risk perceptions of and attitudes toward healthy/risky food in the immediate context of food crisis. More specifically, by using the data collected from 1008 respondents in January 2020, the time when China was hit hard by the “Corona Virus Disease 2019” (COVID-19), this study investigates the overall and different generational respondents’ health/risk perceptions of and attitudes toward organic food and game meat. The results reveal that, firstly, based on their food health and risk perceptions of healthy and risky food, the respondents’ general attitudes are positive toward organic food but relatively negative toward game meat. Secondly, older generations have a more positive attitude and are more committed to organic food. Younger generations’ attitude toward game meat is more negative whereas older generations attach more importance to it because of its nutritional and medicinal values. In addition, this research also indicates that the COVID-19 crisis influences the respondents’ perceptions of and attitudes toward organic food and game meat consumption. However, the likelihood of its impact on older generations’ future change in diets is smaller, which implies that older generations’ food beliefs are more stable. Para la realización del estudio se tomó una muestra de 80 hombres y mujeres, integrantes de grupos domésticos con derechos ejidales. Se aplicó una encuesta y entrevistas semiestructuradas a informantes clave y se realizó observación participante. Se identificaron las afectaciones que los hombres y mujeres participantes en el estudio reconocen y experimentan de forma diferencial, las cuales son asociadas con la variabilidad del clima o cambio climático. Asimismo se detectó el desarrollo de estrategias de adaptación de acuerdo con sus asignaciones genéricas, conocimientos tradicionales y prácticas. Se encontró que los programas gubernamentales de conservación del bosque favorecen el desarrollo de estrategias de adaptación en los grupos domésticos ejidales para el manejo del bosque, lo cual sin embargo no disminuye plenamente la vulnerabilidad socioambiental en la zona de estudio. Title A name given to the resource Género y etnia en el devenir del maíz nativo del pueblo matlatzinca Creator An entity primarily responsible for making the resource Ana Gabriela Rincón Rubio, Ivonne Vizcarra Bordi Description An account of the resource El propósito de este trabajo es conocer las actitudes, valores sociales y tácticas actuales que mujeres y hombres matlatzincas recrean en su vida cotidiana frente al dilema de seguir produciendo maíz nativo como parte de su seguridad alimentaria, al transitar hacia modos de vida urbanos, o bien una combinación de ambos. Es un estudio cualitativo basado en la etnografía feminista que busca la comprensión de la interseccionalidad género-etnia en la producción de maíz nativo. Como técnica de investigación se realizaron veintidós entrevistas semiestructuradas, aplicadas a siete hombres y quince mujeres, miembros de la comunidad de San Francisco Oxtotilpan, Estado de México, que participan en actividades agrícolas relacionadas con los maíces nativos. Los resultados agrupan tres preocupaciones: variabilidad climática, perspectivas de mejora de la situación socioeconómica y arribo de nuevos paquetes biotecnológicos. Asimismo, se discuten las perspectivas sobre el futuro del maíz nativo. Se concluye que para el pueblo matlatzinca el maíz nativo es eje de identidad, y a la vez un recurso de control económico y social, que para ser preservado requiere que los principios de igualdad de género y etnia permanezcan.
