To date, there is little information available on the impact of the interaction between these comorbidities in the risk of death by COVID-19. To evaluate the impact of the combinations of MetS components in overall survival (OS) and risk of death among COVID-19 patients. Using public data of the Ministry of Health, suspected, and confirmed COVID-19 cases from February 25-June 6, 2020 was analyzed. Mortality odds ratio (OR) was calculated with a univariate analysis (95% CI) and attributable risk. Interactions between components and survival curves were analyzed and a multivariate logistics regression analysis was conducted. The analysis included 528,651 cases out of which 202,951 were confirmed for COVID-19. Probabilities of OS among confirmed patients were 0.93, 0.89, 0.87, 0.86, and 0.83 while the OR of multivariate analysis was 1.83 (1.77-1.89), 2.58 (2.48-2.69), 2.83 (2.66-3.01), and 3.36 (2.83-3.99) for zero, one, two, three, and four MetS components, respectively. The combination with the highest risk was DM2 + hypertension at 2.22 (2.15-2.28), and the attributable risk for any component was 9.35% (9.21-9.49). Only the combination obesity + CVD showed no significant interaction. The presence of one MetS component doubles the risk of death by COVID-19, which was higher among patients with DM2 + hypertension. Only obesity and CVD do not interact significantly. Ichthyological sampleswere taken at four different times during a year according to the Amazon water level, ascendantwaters (April), high waters (June), descendant waters (July) and low waters (November), inorder to study the variation of fish over time and to create a reference collection of theYahurcaca lake. 134 species were found 54 of which are new reports for the Colombian Amazonregion. The fish community changes its composition and relative abundance throughoutthe periods studied, due to changes in resources related with the hydric pulse. The changes inthe diet during the different periods was analyzed for five predominant species: Triportheus albus,Triportheus angulatus, Triportheus elongatus(Characidae), Rhytiodus microlepisy Schizodon fasciatus(Anostomidae). The Triportheusspecies have a generalized feeding strategy and prefer terrestrialinsects, fish pieces, fruits and seeds. The two anostomids are clearly specialists and feed mostlyof vegetal material from autochthonous or alochthonous origin. In all the species the type andamount of food was different in each period, due to the variation in the resources offer whichrelates with the hydric pulse. The examination of the gonads of the species, suggests that all ofthem have one posture per year, because no mature females were found in any of the periodsanalyzed. Possibly the spawning occurs in the first months of the year, time when the water level begins to rise and floods the lake. The species would present high fecundity because even inimmature stages a high number of eggs was observed. The type and amount of feedingresources, the reproductive strategy and the time of spawning of the fishes are closely relatedwith the fluctuations of Yahuarcaca’s waterlevel, ultimately with the hydric pulse. As the basis of the food chain, periphyton offers possibilities for further optimization of extensive aquaculture ponds, although in-depth research on its effects on phytoplankton is necessary. Objective: a test was conducted to assess periphyton effects on phytoplankton concentration (org/L) and Shannon Weaver algae diversity index (DI). Methods: 18 earthen ponds (90 m²) under extensive polyculture conditions and low stocking density (2 kg/m² at the end of the culture) were used. Fish density was 2.6 Nile tilapia/m² and 0.7 bocachico/m2. Treatments consisted in the inclusion or absence of substrate (polyethylene pipes) for periphyton attachment (B1 for substrate presence and B2 for substrate absence) combined with three feeding strategies: no balanced feed offered (A1), 20% crude protein feed (A2), and 25% crude protein feed (A3). The combination of substrate levels and feeding strategies resulted in six treatments. Each treatment was replicated there times using a randomized complete block design for a six-month experimental period. Data were analyzed using a repeated-measure ANOVA in which time appears as a third factor (monthly samplings). Results: an interaction between factor B and time was found (P < 0.05), suggesting that the DI was significantly higher in ponds with substrate (B1) at given times (times 3, 4, 5 and 6). A significant interaction was also found between factors A*B*time (P < 0.05) for the concentration of organisms; resulting in a higher concentration of organisms in treatments that included substrate for periphyton attachment. Conclusion: periphyton had a positive influence on phytoplankton development, which is why stimulating periphyton attachment on an artificial substrate is a good way of improving a pond's primary production.Antecedentes: se considera que la comunidad fitoplanctónica es la más importante en la cadena alimenticia acuática. El perifiton, como base de la cadena alimenticia, ofrece posibilidades que optimizarían el uso de los insumos utilizados en sistemas extensivos, pero es necesario investigar a fondo sus efectos sobre el fitoplancton. Objetivo: evaluar el efecto del perifiton sobre la concentración (org/L) y el índice de diversidad algal Shannon Weaver (DI) del fitoplancton. Métodos: se realizó un ensayo en 18 estanques en tierra, de 90 m², bajo condiciones de policultivo de baja densidad de siembra (buscando alcanzar máximo 2 Kg/m² al final del cultivo) con 2,6 tilapias y 0,7 bocachicos/m². Caballero Description An account of the resource Strawberry (Fragaria ×ananassa) is a major food crop worldwide, due to the flavor, aroma and health benefits of the fruit, but its productivity and quality are seriously limited by a large variety of phytopathogens, including Colletotrichum spp. So far, key factors regulating strawberry immune response remain unknown. The FaWRKY1 gene has been previously proposed as an important element mediating defense responses in strawberry to Colletotrichum acutatum. To get further insight into the functional role that FaWRKY1 plays in the defense mechanism, Agrobacterium-mediated transient transformation was used both to silence and overexpress the FaWRKY1 gene in strawberry fruits (Fragaria ×ananassa cv. Primoris), which were later analyzed upon C. acutatum inoculation. Susceptibility tests were performed after pathogen infection comparing the severity of disease between the two agroinfiltrated opposite halves of the same fruit, one half bearing a construct either for FaWRKY1 overexpression or RNAi-mediated silencing and the other half bearing the empty vector, as control. The severity of tissue damage was monitored and found to be visibly reduced at five days after pathogen inoculation in the fruit half where FaWRKY1 was transiently silenced compared to that of the opposite control half and statistical analysis corroborated a significant reduction in disease susceptibility. Contrarily, a similar level of susceptibility was found when FaWRKY1 overexpression and control fruit samples, was compared. These results unravel a negative regulatory role of FaWRKY1 in resistance to the phytopathogenic fungus C. acutatum in strawberry fruit and contrast with the previous role described for this gene in Arabidopsis as positive regulator of resistance against the bacteria Pseudomonas syringae. Based on previous results, a tentative working model for WRKY75 like genes after pathogen infection is proposed and the expression pattern of potential downstream FaWRKY1 target genes was also analyzed in strawberry fruit upon C. acutatum infection. Our results highlight that FaWRKY1 might display different function according to species, plant tissue and/or type of pathogen and underline the intricate FaWRKY1 responsive defense regulatory mechanism taking place in strawberry against this important crop pathogen.
