Ante esto, resulta importante conocer las condiciones de resiliencia de la población que habita en las ciudades costeras de Quintana Roo, principalmente en Chetumal, Tulum y Playa del Carmen, ciudades con altas tasas de crecimiento poblacional a nivel estatal, las cuales se encuentran incluso por encima del promedio anual nacional. El presente estudio propone una metodología aplicada para recopilar información sobre los componentes de la resiliencia ante huracanes e inundaciones de las ciudades referidas. El desarrollo de la propuesta se llevó a cabo mediante dos fases: la primera consistió en la revisión exhaustiva de bibliografía sobre resiliencia urbana a nivel internacional, nacional y local para la construcción de un modelo conceptual. La segunda se enfocó a la aplicación de 972 encuestas: 450 se realizaron en Chetumal, 344 en Playa del Carmen y 178 en Tulum.Con esta metodología los costos del trabajo de campo se redujeron, el tiempo de aplicación de las encuestas se optimizó y la compilación de información fue exitosa. Between 1881 and 1883, Arturo Soria y Mata published a series of articles on urban issues in the newspaper El Progreso, in which he exposed the roots of his urban theory and outlined his proposal for a Linear City. In these first writings, the organic vision of the urban phenomena developed by Soria integrates the processes of consumption of matter and energy necessary for urban life in a concept of the city that is both unique and complex. The development of this organic metaphor entails the recognition of urban metabolism as an opportunity for improving living conditions. The parallelism between the urban organism and the human body is the key of this operational methodology, through which the author conceives advanced supply, communications or waste collection systems based on the potential of new technologies to organize and improve the cities of his time. It was from this vision that his definitive proposal for urban growth was born, the Linear City, which was fated to establish a residential network that connected the core of the existing cities, preserved as business and leisure centers. Soria’s organic thinking is an important historical precedent to the consolidation of an urban ecology. The purpose of studying and advocating it is to reconcile contemporary urban challenges and aspirations with an underrated chapter of the foundations of modern urban theory. People’s self-efficacy to adopt preventive behaviours to avoid COVID-19 contagion and spread should be studied. The aim of this study was to develop and psychometrically test the COVID-19 prevention, detection, and home-management self-efficacy scale (COVID-19-SES). We conducted an observational cross-sectional study. Six-hundred and seventy-eight people participated in the study. Data were collected between March and May 2020. The COVID-19-SES’ validity (content, criterion, and construct), reliability (internal consistency and test-retest reliability), and legibility were studied. The COVID-19-SES’ reliability was high (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.906; intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.754). The COVID-19-SES showed good content validity (scale’s content validity index = 0.92) and good criterion validity when the participants’ results on the COVID-19-SES were compared to their general self-efficacy (r = 0.38; p < 0.001). Construct validity analysis revealed that the COVID-19-SES’ three-factor structure explained 52.12% of the variance found and it was congruent with the World Health Organisation’s recommendations to prevent COVID-19 contagion and spread. Legibility analysis showed that the COVID-19-SES is easy to read and understand by laypeople. The COVID-19-SES is a psychometrically robust instrument that allows for a valid and reliable assessment of people’s self-efficacy in preventing, detecting symptoms, and home-managing COVID-19.
