El artículo analiza 24 investigaciones realizadas en diferentes países entre los años 2008 al 2015, sobre cuestiones ambientales generadas por la agricultura, así como, se discute la validez de los métodos de valoración económica utilizados. Los métodos incluidos son: valoración contingente, experimentos de elección, precios hedónicos y valoración de activos multicriterio. La mayoría de las investigaciones se han centrado en la recreación y el turismo, dejando de lado los problemas ocasionados por la agricultura. Al final, se ofrecen algunas recomendaciones relacionadas con la valoración económica del ambiente en el diseño de políticas enfocadas al sector agrícola.

En la actualidad, con el progresivo cierre de vertederos, nos situamos en un marco experimental ideal para estudiar cómo afecta la reducción drástica de un recurso trófico en la ecología, dinámica poblacional y movimientos de una especie con alto interés en la gestión, como es la gaviota patiamarilla Larus michahellis Naumann, 1840. En este contexto, en 2016 se equiparon con GPS un total de 10 ejemplares adultos de gaviota patiamarilla en una de las colonias de cría de Gipuzkoa, de los que sólo 4 proporcionaron datos hasta el 31.07.2016. El análisis preliminar aporta información básica sobre el uso del territorio durante una parte del periodo reproductor. El porcentaje de localizaciones se distribuyó de esta manera: 60% en la colonia; 18% en otro tipo de hábitats; 12% en prados y cultivos; y 6.5% en vertederos. Se detecta, así, un relativo alto uso de los prados y cultivos del entorno de la colonia, así como de dos de los vertederos más importantes de la región. Por otro lado, parece existir alta variabilidad individual en el uso del territorio que podría reflejar diferentes estrategias en la búsqueda de alimento.

El cambio climático ha venido alterando las condiciones agroecológicas en todo el mundo. América Latina es una de las regiones más afectadas, siendo Nicaragua, Honduras y Haití los países más vulnerables. Parte de estos efectos se notan en las variaciones de los regímenes de lluvias al punto de tocar extremos como sequias e inundaciones en zonas de clima moderado. El riesgo se acrecienta al saber que el 90% de los cultivos de esta región depende del régimen de lluvias. Como alternativa se han comenzado a evaluar y utilizar ampliamente variedades resistentes a la sequía, una de ellas es la variedad de frijol (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) INTA Rojo (EAP 9510- 77). El objetivo de esta investigación es evaluar el comportamiento fenológico y productivo de esta leguminosa en condiciones de estrés hídrico. También se determinará la cantidad mínima y máxima de agua con la que la planta no presente en pérdida productiva por medio de correlaciones de variables. La investigación se realizó en el municipio de Bocana de Paiwas, en el Caribe de Nicaragua en periodo de primera del ciclo productivo 2018. Se registró una precipitación promedio de 60 mm mensuales. Este estudio es de carácter experimental y dirigido a cuantificar el efecto de las alteraciones fenológicas y productivas en la planta de P. vulgaris por el estrés hídrico. Se empleó el Análisis de Varianza y Diferencia Mínima Significativa con un α=0.05 para el análisis estadístico de los datos registrados. El tratamiento cinco (T5) es el que permitió el desarrollo óptimo de las características fenológicas y productivas P. vulgaris. Este cultivar de frijol requiere un mínimo del 80% y un máximo 120% de la cantidad diaria de evapotranspiración para no entrar en pérdida productiva por estrés hídrico. Partiendo del dato anterior se identifica que el cultivar del frijol es altamente (0.95) sensible a las variaciones de humedad en el suelo. Además, no presenta características de adaptación a condiciones de sequía y/o estrés hídrico por carencia de agua. Se requieren más investigaciones en condiciones controladas donde se pueda monitorear variables ambientales y atmosféricas. También deben integrarse otras variedades, entre ellas las criollas de uso común.

Los rumiantes son grandes contribuyentes al calentamiento global y deterioro de la capa de ozono, por la liberación de altas cantidades de gases a la atmósfera, entre ellos, el gas carbónico y el metano. El metano producido se genera principalmente por los procesos fermentativos del alimento que ingresa al rumen. El principal factor biótico a nivel del rumen en la producción de metano son las bacterias anaerobias metanógenas. Estas bacterias utilizan diferentes sustratos para la producción de metano, pero los principales son el H2 y el CO2. La eliminación de estos gases, principalmente del H2 implican la remoción de un factor implicado en la estabilidad del pH ruminal siendo este esencial para una óptima fermentación. Pero a la par se considera la producción de metano como una pérdida de energía potencialmente utilizable. Los efectos de las bacterias metanógenas son dependientes principalmente de los sustratos presentes en la dieta y de las interacciones con otras poblaciones. Intervenciones en la alimentación ofrecida a los animales, orientadas hacia optimizar el proceso de fermentación ruminal, generalmente repercuten en una mejora de los parámetros productivos y reproductivos, debido, entre otros aspectos, a una mejor utilización de la energía. Además, la disminución de las emisiones a la atmósfera cobra gran importancia en la protección del medio ambiente. Diversas evidencias muestran que la tasa de emisión de metano por fermentación ruminal, está relacionada con las características físico-químicas de la dieta, las cuales afectan el nivel de consumo y la frecuencia de alimentación. Por esto una subnutrición contribuye a incrementar las emisiones de metano. La posibilidad de limitar las emisiones de metano por el ganado en sistemas de producción tropical, provee beneficios económicos y medioambientales. Una opción de reducción consiste en la sustitución de tecnologías convencionales por nuevas alternativas concomitantes con una adecuada producción y mínimos efectos medioambientales. Dentro de estas alternativas de potencial uso en trópico está el manejo de pasturas, tendiente hacia mejorar su calidad. Una alternativa de amplio potencial y que hasta el momento ha tomado fuerza por sus múltiples beneficios son los sistemas silvopastoriles, pero poco se ha investigado su efecto sobre la producción de metano ruminal. Para la determinación de emisiones y la eficiencia de las alternativas implementadas, se debe recurrir a metodologías apropiadas que permitan extrapolar los resultados a las condiciones reales in vivo. Dentro de estas alternativas, el sistema in vitro RUSITEC, ha presentado una alta correlación con las características propias del animal. El objetivo de esta revisión es visualizar diferentes factores que determinan las emisiones de metano, alternativas de medición y opciones para disminuir la producción de este gas en los sistemas ganaderos, en aras de una producción más eficiente y que proteja el medio ambiente.The ruminants are great contributors to the global heating and deterioration of the ozone layer, by the liberation of high amounts of gases to the atmosphere, among them, the carbon dioxide gas and the methane. The methane produced in rumen is generated mainly by fermentative processes of the food that enters to rumen. The main biotic factor at level of rumen in the methane production are the metanogenic anaerobic bacteria. These bacterias use different substrates for the methane production, but the main ones are the H2 and the CO2. The elimination of these gases, mainly of the H2 implies the removal of a factor implied in the stability of pH ruminal being this essential for an optimal fermentation. But at the same way this methane production is considered like a loss of potentially usable energy. The effects of the metanogenic bacteria are employees mainly of the present substrates in the diet and of the interactions with other populations. Interventions in the feeding offered to the animals, oriented towards optimizing the process of ruminal fermentation, repel generally in an improvement of the productive and reproductive parameters, had, among other aspects, to one better use of the energy. In addition, the diminution of the emissions to the atmosphere receives great importance in the protection of the environment. The diverse evidences show that the rate of methane emission by ruminal fermentation, is related to the characteristics physical-chemistries of the diet, which affect the level of consumption and the frequency of feeding. By this the subnutrition contributes to increase the methane emissions. The possibility of limiting the methane emissions by the cattle in tropical production systems, provides economic and environmental benefits. A reduction option consists of the substitution of conventional technologies by new concomitants alternatives with a suitable production and minimums environmental effects. Within these alternatives of potential use in tropic it is the handling of pastures, tending towards improving his quality. An alternative of wide potential and that until the moment has taken force by its multiple benefits are the silvopastoral systems, but little has investigated its effect on the ruminal methane production. For the determination of emissions and the efficiency of the implemented alternatives, one is due to resort to appropriate methodologies that allows to extrapolate the results to the real conditions in alive. Within these alternatives, the system in vitro RUSITEC, has presented a high correlation with the own characteristics of the animal. The objective of this revision is to visualize different factors that determine the methane emissions, measurement alternatives and options to diminish the production of this gas in the cattle systems, for the sake of a more efficient production and than it protects the environment.

Las zoonosis son enfermedades que se transmiten de forma natural entre los animales vertebrados y el hombre. Existe un gran número de enfermedades bacterianas, virales y parasitarias, que son transmitidas de los animales a los humanos, mientras que pocas micosis son consideradas, actualmente, como zoonosis. Las micosis zoonóticas son más frecuentes en individuos inmunocomprometidos, incluyendo pacientes hospitalizados, en los cuales, Malassezia pachydermatis, una levadura zoofílica, aparece como un microorganismo importante, en la etiología de micosis nosocomiales. En esta revisión, se mencionan las publicaciones que han reportado la presencia de M pachydermatis en humanos, a través del tiempo, con especial énfasis, en infecciones sistémicas en población de riesgo, a partir de caninos y personal de la salud, colonizados por esta levadura. Asimismo, se recopilan estudios en los que se han aislado en animales, especies antropofílicas del género Malassezia, para contribuir al conocimiento de la ecología y posible mecanismo de transmisión zoonótica, de este microorganismo.

La gestión sostenible del agua ha aparecido en España como el centro de una controversia de primera magnitud. En ella, la participación ciudadana es un eje fundamental. A partir del análisis de grupos de discusión realizados en seis ciudades de Cataluña, este trabajo reflexiona sobre la percepción de la participación en los debates sobre el agua. Se presentan cinco actores que aparecen en el discurso de los entrevistados: los «expertos», los «perjudicados», los «beneficiados», los «interesados» i los «concienciados». Posteriormente, se examinan los criterios que permiten identificar, entre estos actores, los que son considerados legítimos en las controversias hidrológicas.
