The fellows suddenly needed to support students emotionally and switch to online instruction. They were encouraged to acknowledge and address the pandemic during each class and decided to do so. In this case study, we examined the language fellows used in response to this encouragement, hypothesizing that they would engage in a variety of pandemic-related instructor talk, i.e., language that instructors use in the classroom that is not directly tied to educational content. We analyzed transcripts from 17 2-hour undergraduate biology seminar courses and found 167 instances of pandemic-related instructor talk. We used grounded theory to identify categories that emerged from these quotations: Positive coping mechanisms and self-care; Adjusting to online learning; Compassionate instruction; Personal impacts; COVID-19 and society; Dreaming; and Biology of COVID-19. Talk in these categories may help build relationships among instructors and students. The category about quickly Adjusting to online learning is unique, in that it is unlikely that there will be another time that will require simultaneous and rapid national movement to online instruction. In addition, four of the seven categories are direct consequences of COVID-19 specifically, and thus are unique to this time. Analyzing pandemic-related instructor talk has shed light on how new instructors navigated the trials of teaching in 2020. Hay desequilibrios fisiológicos causantes de pérdidas en la estimulación y cuajes florales y, según la variedad, las mermas de la producción pueden ser superiores al 60 %. Objetivo. Conocer el efecto que tiene un nuevo bioestimulante sobre la floración, maduración y calidad de los frutos en el cultivo del café. Materiales y métodos. El trabajo se realizó durante los años 2018 y 2019, en la finca La Hilda, lote Murillo, localizada en la provincia de Alajuela, Cantón San Pedro de Póas, Costa Rica, bajo manejo agroecológico. Se evaluó el efecto de la aplicación de un producto bioestimulante foliar a dosis de 3 l ha-1, certificado para producción en agricultura ecológica. Se utilizaron dos tratamientos, dos y tres aplicaciones, de bioestimulante y se compararon con un testigo absoluto. Los parámetros evaluados fueron: la estimulación y cuaje floral, nudos productivos para el próximo ciclo y calidad de los frutos. Resultados. No existieron diferencias estadísticas significativas entre los dos tratamientos del bioestimulante (3 l ha-1) en contraste con el testigo. Al evaluar la mayor producción de frutos cuajados y mayor calidad de estos, cuando se realizaron las aplicaciones durante la fase de floración y fructificación, se obtuvo una homogeneidad de la maduración y mayor número de cerezas por ramas. Conclusión. El empleo del nuevo bioestimulante con dos aplicaciones foliares sobre el cultivo del café, estimuló la floración, maduración y calidad de los frutos respecto al testigo sin tratar. Particularmente este trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar la influencia de la variabilidad del clima en el proceso de pérdida de suelo (erosión hídrica) en la cuenca del río Cuyaguateje en el occidente de Cuba. En Cuba específicamente en la cuenca de dicho río los incrementos en acumulados y erosividad de las lluvias en la década de los años ochenta han sido significativos en comparación con décadas anteriores (1960 al 1970). Utilizando una base de datos pluviográfica del período del 1965-1992 se calculó un indicador de erosividad, el factor R del Modelo (RUSLE) Ecuación Universal de Pérdidas de Suelo Universal Revisada, que sirvió para comparar la variabilidad del clima en estos dos períodos. Este factor describe la erosividad de las lluvias con una intensidad máxima a los 30 minutos. Además se realizó un análisis de cambio de estacionalidad en el período antes mencionado. Como resultado se evidenció un aumento en las últimas décadas del valor del factor R, así como también se detectó un corrimiento del período seco en la década de los años 60 que va disminuyendo a medida que se van acercando los años de 1990. El presente trabajo se realizó con el objetivo de proponer nuevas alternativas para la propagación de Bambusa vulgaris Schard. ex Wendl combinando técnicas tradicionales.Métodos. Se determinó la influencia de las condiciones climáticas en el establecimiento in vitro de los segmentos caulinares. Además, se estudió el efecto de las condiciones de cultivo en los brotes multiplicados en medio de cultivo líquido estático y Sistemas de inmersión temporal, así como su respuesta durante la fase de aclimatización.Resultados. Fueron identificados por primera vez los contaminantes microbianos de alta frecuencia de aparición asociados a las plantas en casa de cultivo e in vitro. Durante el establecimiento in vitro de las yemas axilares se logró un 99 % de brotación y 98 % de explantes libres de contaminantes microbianos visibles entre los meses de enero-abril y noviembre-diciembre. Se demostró que los brotes multiplicados entre el sexto y octavo subcultivo con 12 μM de 6-BAP pueden ser utilizados para la multiplicación en Sistemas de Inmersión Temporal. Se logró incrementar la calidad morfo-fisiológica y bioquímica de los brotes cultivados en los SIT con la menor concentración de 6-BAP (6,0 μM) y un tiempo de inmersión de 2 min, aspectos poco abordados en las especies de bambúes. Se describieron los primeros estudios en la especie sobre el efecto de la sacarosa en la respuesta morfo-fisiológica, anatómica y bioquímica de los brotes en los SIT durante la transición in vitro-ex vitro. Las plantas llevadas a la casa de cultivo pudieron emitir entre 4 y 7 nuevos brotes con altas tasas de supervivencia durante la extracción de retoños. All such coronaviruses (CoVs) were confirmed to originate from bats. To continuously monitor the epidemic-related CoVs in bats, virome analysis was used to classify CoVs from 831 bats of 15 species in Yunnan, Guangxi, and Sichuan Provinces between August 2016 and May 2017. We identified 11 CoV strains from 22 individual samples of four bat species. Identification of four alpha-CoVs from Scotophilus kuhlii in Guangxi, which was closely related to a previously reported bat CoV and porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), revealed a bat-swine lineage under the genus Alphacoronavirus. A recombinant CoV showed that the PEDV probably originated from the CoV of S. kuhlii. Another alpha-CoV, α-YN2018, from Rhinolophus affinis in Yunnan, suggested that this alpha-CoV lineage had multiple host origins, and α-YN2018 had recombined with CoVs of other bat species over time. We identified five SARS-related CoVs (SARSr-CoVs) in Rhinolophus bats from Sichuan and Yunnan and confirmed that angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 usable SARSr-CoVs were continuously circulating in Rhinolophus spp. in Yunnan. The other beta-CoV, strain β-GX2018, found in Cynopterus sphinx of Guangxi, represented an independently evolved lineage different from known CoVs of Rousettus and Eonycteris bats. The identification of diverse CoVs here provides new genetic data for understanding the distribution and source of pathogenic CoVs in China.
