Esto permitiría integrar conceptos y resolver contradicciones en áreas de la biología funcional y evolutiva ABSTRACT The epigenetic concept, frequently attributed to Corad Waddington (1905-1975), has been closely related to a fight in the intellectual field for more than two thousand years. Postulated by Aristotle under the name of epigenesis, as opposed to the biological preformationists conception of Democritus, it has varied in content and scope in accordance with the development of scientific knowledge. Today, epigenetics is presented in the literature as a polisemic concept with low conceptual integration. However, the wide range of biological phenomena covered and the extent of scientific production involved demand a new integrated approach to ecology, evolution and development (eco-evo-devo). In this sense, it is proposed to conceptualize epigenetics from an adaptive epigenetic perspective, which involves the inclusion of transgenerational epigenetic or Darwinian mechanisms, depending on the level of integration to be analyzed. This would allow to integrate concepts and solve contradictions in areas of functional and evolutionary biology.</text>
