Los muestreos se llevaron a cabo en época de lluvias y en época seca, empleando dos atarrayas de diferentes ojos de malla. Se utilizaron métodos cuantitativos como coeficiente de vacuidad (CV%) e índice de importancia relativa (IIR%) para establecer los ítems alimentarios importantes en el contenido estomacal. Se utilizaron 231 estómagos en total, identificándose siete grupos alimentarios. Según sus hábitos tróficos, los peces se clasificaron, en época seca como omnívoros, con tendencia a la insectivoría, carnívoros y herbívoros. En época de lluvias, el ítem que presentó mayor importancia fueron los peces, apareciendo larvas de Sicydium salvani en el 95% del total de los estómagos analizados y, con el 78% de la oferta, fueron las que más contribuyeron con alimento, siendo devoradas tanto por peces carnívoros como omnívoros. En época seca, la oferta alimentaria fue suministrada por material vegetal en un 100% (algas, tallos y limo) y 74% detritus. Estos resultados evidencian que este sistema fluvial es capaz de mantener una comunidad diversa con suficientes recursos alimentarios disponibles.
