The research had the objective of evaluating the application effects of the Bokashi organic compound on soil macro and micronutrients contents and leaves, as well as on Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandú dry mass yield, evaluating the potential of the organic fertilizer as phosphorus source, in comparison with conventional chemical fertilizers. Different organic compound doses supplied the soil with 17 kg P2O5 ha-1, 34 kg P2O5 ha-1, 68 kg P2O5 ha-1, 136 kg P2O5 ha-1, and 204 kg P2O5 ha-1, comparing it with the conventional chemical fertilizer and the control. The results revealed that the organic fertilizer Bokashi can adequately replace the conventional chemical fertilizer of Brachiaria brizantha cv.

</text>

                <text>O artigo de Giselle Silva Garcia e Elisabetta Recine aborda o tema da segurança alimentar e nutricional e tem foco na participação da agricultura familiar nas compras institucionais. Como o próprio título sinaliza, 'Perspectivas do fornecimento de produtos da agricultura familiar para os equipamentos públicos de segurança alimentar e nutricional no Distrito Federal', são identificadas grandes potencialidades nesse processo em construção, enquanto elemento indutor da consolidação da segurança alimentar e nutricional (SAN) e de fortalecimento da agricultura familiar, assim como se verificam, a partir dessa inovação, novos (e velhos) desafios a serem superados. O artigo, portanto, aborda um tema candente, atual e de relevante importância social, problematizando as questões mais significativas, e apresenta na sua finalização propostas para seu equacionamento. <text>La introducción de nuevas tecnologías como la siembra directa y las semillas transgénicas, han ocasionado notables cambios en los aspectos productivos, económicos, sociales y ambientales. En este contexto, la figura del contratista de servicios de maquinaria agrícola, aumentó notablemente su participación en las actividades agrícolas, no solo en la región pampeana, sino también en las regiones extrapampeanas como consecuencia del corrimiento de la frontera agrícola. En la provincia de La Pampa, estos contratistas participan activamente en el proceso productivo agrícola. Sin embargo, más allá de los datos provenientes de los censos nacionales agropecuarios - que actualmente resultan obsoletos -, son escasos los estudios empíricos que muestran la realidad e importancia de este actor social. El objetivo del presente trabajo es caracterizar la relevancia socio-económica, tecnológica y productiva de los contratistas de servicios de maquinaria agrícola que residen en las localidades del sur de la micro-región 2 de la provincia de La Pampa. La estrategia metodológica está basada en el análisis de la información primaria generada a partir de encuestas realizadas a 31 contratistas que conforman una muestra del universo de estudio. Los principales resultados muestran una heterogeneidad de escalas de trabajo, clientes y servicios ofrecidos.</text>

                <text>We tested the influence of the aril on seed germination in controlled conditions and on the removal of M. champaca seeds in natural environment. Germination assays were kept at 25 ± 2 °C under continuous white light. Removal experiments were carried out in three 'old' (39 to 62-years old) and three 'new' (15-years old) eucalypt stands in Horto Florestal Navarro de Andrade, Rio Claro, SP. The results show that the aril inhibits the germination and the seeds exhibit a positively photoblastic reaction. We found higher seed removal in old eucalypt stands than the new ones, probably due to the higher density of rodents in the old stands. In the new stands, we found higher seed removal of arillated seeds by ants. Ants are important to remove the aril of seeds dropped by birds, not only enhancing seed germination but also preventing seed predation by rodents.Testou-se o efeito do arilo na germinação de M. champaca em condições controladas, bem como na sua remoção, em ambiente natural. Os ensaios de germinação foram mantidos a 25 ± 2 °C, sob luz branca constante. Os experimentos de remoção foram levados a cabo em três talhões 'velhos (idades de 39 a 62 anos) e três 'novos' (15 anos de idade) de eucalipto mantidos no Horto Florestal Navarro de Andrade, em Rio Claro, SP. Os resultados indicaram que o arilo inibe a germinação, sendo as sementes fotoblásticas positivas. Observou-se que a remoção de sementes foi maior em talhões 'velhos' do que em 'novos', provavelmente devido à maior densidade de roedores nos talhões velhos. Nos talhões novos, verificou-se que formigas removiam mais sementes ariladas. Esses insetos são importantes agentes na remoção do arilo de sementes derrubadas por pássaros, promovendo, assim, aumento na germinação e evitando a possível predação das sementes por roedores.</text>

                <text>OBJETIVO: Estudiar la percepción y la experiencia sobre inseguridad alimentaria entre latinoamericanos de California, así como su interpretación de los insumos incluidos en la Escala de Seguridad Alimentaria. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Entre noviembre y diciembre de 2000, en los condados californianos de Solano y San Joaquín, se efectuaron cuatro grupos focales, con 30 adultos de origen latinoamericano residentes allí. Los comentarios de los participantes fueron codificados por dos investigadores para determinar los temas principales, y fueron confrontados para verificar su convergencia. RESULTADOS: Las preguntas fueron bien comprendidas, no percibiéndose como ofensivas. El marco conceptual se confirmó como 'proceso manejado' con diferentes niveles de severidad. Las causas de inseguridad alimentaria identificadas fueron: desempleo, alto costo de algunos alimentos y falta de información nutricional. La necesidad de educación nutricional fue una constante. CONCLUSIONES: Para interpretar datos nacionales de inseguridad alimentaria en latinoamericanos es esencial considerar su percepción particular de ese fenómeno.</text>

                <text>
</text>

                <text>Entre as plantas medicinais dos Guajá da Amazônia oriental incluem-se várias usadas para repelir os fantasmas dos mortos. Esse artigo discute as plantas repelentes de fantasmas aiyã, em termos de seu significado simbólico, eficácia biológica, e contexto histórico-ecológico. Plantas repelentes de fantasmas são identificadas por seu odor pungente, que age sobre o odor fétido - causador de doenças - dos fantasmas dos mortos. A eficácia da cura pode também relacionar-se a sua interferência com o chamado 'fenômeno proustiano', que se refere ao poder dos estímulos olfativos de evocar memórias do passado. Como tais, repelentes de fantasmas podem funcionar, em certo sentido, para afastar memórias e lidar com a dor da perda. Por fim, discutem-se evidências de que a predominância de repelentes de fantasmas entre as plantas medicinais dos Guajá é um efeito da baixa populacional maciça subseqüente ao contato europeu.The medicinal plants of the Guajá people of eastern Amazonia include a number of plants that are used to repel the ghosts of the dead. This work discusses the aiyã ghost repellent plants in terms of their symbolic meaning, biological efficacy, and historical ecological context. Ghost repellent plants are identified through their pungent smell, which counteract the disease-causing foul smell of the ghosts of the dead. The efficacy of the cure may also relate to its interference with the so-called 'Proustian phenomenon,' which refers to the power of olfactory stimuli to evoke memories of the past. As such, ghost repellent plants may function, in a sense, to repel memory and cope with grief. Finally, evidence is discussed the predominance of ghost repellent plants among the Guajá is an artifact of massive depopulation in the wake of European contact.</text>
