Los sustratos se modificaron por acetilación con anhídrido acético, ácido acético y ácido sulfúrico como catalizador: se obtuvieron los productos con rendimientos situados entre 46% y 74% y grados de situación entre 2.4 y 2.7. El espectro IR de los acetatos sintetizados fue similar al del producto comercial, tuvieron una buena solubilidad en mezclas acetona-agua y una temperatura de ablandamiento menor al acetato de la casa Merck. Los mejores resultados se obtuvieron cuando se utilizó celulosa de cáscaras de piña como sustrato.
