                <text>El objetivo de la presente investigación fue analizar la producción de rubros tradicionales en el Departamento de Concepción y su importancia en el contexto de la agricultura familiar campesina (AFC). Fue utilizada la base de datos del Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería para los rubros del tártago, la mandioca, el algodón y el sésamo de los años 1990/1991 al 2008/2009 para el análisis sobre área de siembra, producción total en tonelada y rendimiento en kilogramo por hectárea. El resultado revela que el tártago en el periodo de estudio presenta un descenso constante en la cantidad de área sembrada, pasando 6.610 ha en la zafra 1990/91 a 3.450 ha en la zafra 2008/9, en el mismo periodo, la mandioca presenta un crecimiento del área sembrada pasando 9.365 ha a 10.402 ha, mientras, el algodón de 23.700 ha disminuyó a 1.277 ha, así mismo, el cultivo de sésamo desde el inicio de su producción (zafra 2000/01) presenta un incremento constante en la cantidad de área sembrada, pasando de 8.000 ha a 22.917 ha. Se verifica la variación en el periodo de estudio para todos los rubros, considerando a la mandioca como un rubro más estable, y al sésamo como rubro de sustitución del algodón.</text>

                <text>The study and development of plant resources in arid-saline environments is increasing. Salicornia bigelovii is a halophyte of great interest. However, the productivity of these plants is limited by nitrogen availability. An alternative to chemical fertilizers are the plant growth promoting bacteria and mycorrhizae. In the present study was evaluated the effect of Glomus intraradices, three strains of rhizobacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and Azospirillum halopraeferens) and two soil types (clayey and sandy) on Salicornia under greenhouse conditions. The inoculation of bacteria under conditions of sandy soil significantly stimulated growth and nutritional factor of Salicornia (NPK). Synergism was observed between G. intraradices and rhizobacteria. When inoculated bacteria in individually form, behaved with significant differences. There was synergism between G. intraradices and Klebsiella pneumoniae and A. halopraeferens in the uptake of N, the opposite happened with G. intraradices and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens with high significant values in the absorption of P and K. The soil was a determining factor in behavior and expression of the benefit of the microorganisms. Rhizobacteria and mycorrhiza in the study have potential for use as growth promoters in salicornia.</text>

                <text>Saline level of water or soil beyond the limit tolerated by crops may impair morphological, physiological, and biochemical processes of plants in general, including tamarind. This problem requires the adoption of management and input techniques to reduce the degenerative effects of salts on plant species. In this sense, the aim of this study was to assess the effect of bovine biofertilizers on biometric variables and chlorophyll contents in tamarind seedlings irrigated with saline water. The experiment was conducted from October 2012 to January 2013, in Areia, PB, Brazil, in a randomized block design with four replications and five plants per plot in a 5 × 3 factorial scheme, consisting of electrical conductivity of water of 0.5, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5, and 6.0 dS m?1 and soil without and with common and chemically enriched biofertilizers. Leaf area, shoot dry matter, and contents of chlorophyll a, b, total, and carotenoids were assessed at 100 days after sowing. The increased water salinity reduced leaf area and seedling biomass formation, with a higher intensity in the soil without biofertilizer. The addition of biofertilizers allows the formation of tamarind seedlings irrigated with water of a salinity not tolerated by them when cultivated in the soil without the tested inputs.</text>

                <text>This paper has in its main purpose to introduce the context of information and communications technology (ICT) associated to family farming, based on the analysis of the scientific publications with the involvement of professor Ricardo César Gonçalves Sant’Ana, Ph.D., scientific researcher. The methodology has been built upon a theoretical study, with matters of quality, through a literature review and survey articles about the ICT in family farming, by means of an exploratory research in the Ricardo’s Curriculum Lattes. The result was based on bibliography revision and the categorization about the given perspective to the topic. Was observed that the ICT acts as a bridge between the family farmer and the access to information, emphasizing the importance to create the public policy of information that can be softened inequality in access to information. Moreover, soften it follows that a contribution is necessary of various actors in society, to minimize the barriers to access an information in the rural property since actions proposed by the government, software development company, and educational institution through extension projects.</text>

A cisterna tipo calçadão do programa Uma Terra e Duas Águas – P1+2 assegura melhoria na dieta alimentar das famílias rurais, por permitir a inserção de frutas e hortaliças na alimentação. Com o presente trabalho objetivou-se realizar um levantamento da situação atual do uso das cisternas de produção e suas reais contribuições na melhoria da qualidade de vida de famílias rurais na microrregião do Vale do São Francisco, no Estado de Pernambuco. Foi realizada uma pesquisa exploratória e qualitativa no campo, com comunidades localizadas nos municípios de Petrolina, Afrânio e Dormentes. Pôde-se concluir que a implantação das cisternas do P1+2, tem se constituído em importante instrumento para melhoria da dieta alimentar das famílias, todavia, há necessidade de melhor acompanhamento técnico quanto ao uso racional e eficiente da água da cisterna.Production cisterns to improve the quality of life in the semiarid of the pernamuco stateAbstract: The Brazilian semiarid requires particular attention, because of the irregularity of rainfall affecting the region. The cistern Calçadão type of the program called One Land and Two Waters - P1 + 2 ensures improvement in the diet of rural families by allowing the inclusion of fruit and vegetables in the diet. This paper aims to survey the current state of the use of production cisterns and their real contributions to the improvement of rural households in the micro region of the São Francisco Valley, in the state of Pernambuco. It was done an exploratory and qualitative research in the field, with communities located in the municipalities of Petrolina, Afrânio and Dormentes. It was concluded that the cisterns of the P1 + 2, have become an important tool for improving the diet of families, however, a better technical support is required about the rational and efficient use of the water cistern. </text>

                <text>Estimating evaporation is important when managing water resources and cultivating crops. Evaporation can be estimated using land surface heat flux models and remotely sensed land surface temperatures (LST), which have recently become obtainable in very high resolution using lightweight thermal cameras and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). In this study a thermal camera was mounted on a UAV and applied into the field of heat fluxes and hydrology by concatenating thermal images into mosaics of LST and using these as input for the two-source energy balance (TSEB) modelling scheme. Thermal images are obtained with a fixed-wing UAV overflying a barley field in western Denmark during the growing season of 2014 and a spatial resolution of 0.20 m is obtained in final LST mosaics. Two models are used: the original TSEB model (TSEB-PT) and a dual-temperature-difference (DTD) model. In contrast to the TSEB-PT model, the DTD model accounts for the bias that is likely present in remotely sensed LST. TSEB-PT and DTD have already been well tested, however only during sunny weather conditions and with satellite images serving as thermal input. The aim of this study is to assess whether a lightweight thermal camera mounted on a UAV is able to provide data of sufficient quality to constitute as model input and thus attain accurate and high spatial and temporal resolution surface energy heat fluxes, with special focus on latent heat flux (evaporation). Furthermore, this study evaluates the performance of the TSEB scheme during cloudy and overcast weather conditions, which is feasible due to the low data retrieval altitude (due to low UAV flying altitude) compared to satellite thermal data that are only available during clear-sky conditions. TSEB-PT and DTD fluxes are compared and validated against eddy covariance measurements and the comparison shows that both TSEB-PT and DTD simulations are in good agreement with eddy covariance measurements, with DTD obtaining the best results. The DTD model provides results comparable to studies estimating evaporation with similar experimental setups, but with LST retrieved from satellites instead of a UAV. Further, systematic irrigation patterns on the barley field provide confidence in the veracity of the spatially distributed evaporation revealed by model output maps. Lastly, this study outlines and discusses the thermal UAV image processing that results in mosaics suited for model input. This study shows that the UAV platform and the lightweight thermal camera provide high spatial and temporal resolution data valid for model input and for other potential applications requiring high-resolution and consistent LST.</text>

                <text>In order to understand the implications of agriculture on the environment, ecosystem health must be measured. Observing the presence of a biological indicator within an ecosystem is one such method. In this study, male euglossine bees were observed using as attractant cineole 1:8, at adjacent organic (La Paz) and conventional (La Carena) coffee farms near the Northern Barranca River, San Ramón, Alajuela, Costa Rica. Simultaneous data collections were conducted on both farms in April 2004 (late-dry season) and June 2004 (early-rainy season) and combined with the findings of August 2004 (mid-rainy season). These observations show that orchid bees are a viable bio-indicator of organic farm health on a seasonal basis. In the dry season there was no significant difference in orchid bee abundance between the two farms.                 <text>En toda la región del Cono Sur se ha vivido un intenso proceso de revitalización de la “Agricultura Familiar” (AF). En Argentina desde 2003, pero más fuertemente desde el año 2008, se ejecutan políticas para el sector. En este trabajo analizaremos la aparición pública de la AF en la esfera estatal como parte de los procesos de construcción de hegemonía, desde un marco teórico interdisciplinario. El trabajo forma parte de una investigación realizada en dos partidos de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (Argentina). El mismo fue realizado con una metodología cualitativa y empírica, con el objetivo de echar luz sobre las relaciones de poder que son las que determinan las características del territorio.</text>

                <text>Soil compost application is a common soil management practice used by small farmers of Central-South Chile that produces positive effects on soil properties and also promotes presence and activity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). This fungi form symbiosis with plant roots improving plant nutrition, as well as producing glomalin, a glycoprotein that has been associated with soil aggregation stability. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate, in an Ultisol from Central-South Chile, the effect of different doses of compost on some soil characteristics at the end of the third year of a crop sequence including wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), and grassland (Lolium multiflorum Lam. associated with Trifolium repens L.). Studied soil characteristics included chemical (pH, available-P, organic C), biological (C and N biomass, AMF spore number, root colonization percentage, mycelium length, and glomalin content), as well as physical parameters (water holding capacity [WHC], and water stable aggregates [WSA]). Results showed that, in general, compost application increased soil pH, mycorrizal roots, mycelium length, glomalin levels, and WSA. Significant relationships were found between C and N biomass, C biomass and WSA, C biomass and glomalin, WSA and WHC, among others. Results suggest that compost application to this type of soil is a feasible option as a fertilizer substitute, and a way to avoid soil erosion by small local farmers involved in organic agriculture.La aplicación de compost al suelo, práctica habitual en predios de pequeños agricultores de la región centro-sur de Chile, produce efectos positivos en sus propiedades y promueve la presencia y actividad de los hongos micorrícicos arbusculares (AMF). Estos hongos forman simbiosis con las raíces de las plantas mejorando su nutrición y además producen una glicoproteína llamada glomalina, la cual ha sido relacionada con la estabilidad de los agregados de suelo. Por lo anterior, el objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto de la aplicación de distintas dosis de compost sobre algunos parámetros de un Ultisol de la zona centro-sur de Chile, al finalizar el tercer año de una secuencia de cultivos formada por trigo (Triticum aestivum L.), frejol (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) y pradera permanente (Lolium multiflorum Lam. asociada con Trifolium repens L.). Se estudiaron parámetros químicos (pH, C orgánico, P-Olsen), biológicos (C y N biomásico, número de esporas de AMF, micorrización de raíces, longitud de micelio y niveles de glomalina), y físicos (capacidad de retención de agua, WHC, y agregados estables al agua, WSA). Los resultados mostraron que, en general, la aplicación de compost incrementó el pH, micorrización radical, niveles de glomalina, longitud del micelio fúngico y porcentaje de WSA. Se encontraron correlaciones entre C y N biomásico, C biomásico y WSA, C biomásico y glomalina, WSA y WHC. Los resultados aportan antecedentes sobre el uso beneficioso de compost como una alternativa viable de sustitución de insumos y disminución de la erosión en asentamientos de pequeños agricultores orientados a la agricultura orgánica.</text>
