El desarrollo tecnológico y científico en el último siglo ha generado una explosión en el volumen de conocimientos que fluyen a través de las nuevas tecnologías. Supone uno de los fenómenos más característicos del periodismo actual. Una de las consecuencias es la infoxicación que se puede llegar a producir por la sobrecarga de información. En el presente artículo se analiza la infoxicación en el cambio climático a través de un análisis de contenido del punto focal de un incremento de temperatura media mundial en torno a 2º C con respecto a los niveles preindustriales en El País. Las categorías que se analizan son: Protagonismo del punto focal (Se aborda de manera prioritaria o Se aborda de manera secundaria), Cómo se aborda (A propósito de lo que ocurre, A propósito de lo que se hace, A propósito de lo que se dice) y Respuestas (Mitigación, Adaptación). Como conclusiones observamos la presencia de infoxicación en la temática en torno al incremento de temperatura media mundial de 2º C en la predominancia del discurso de “lo que se dice” por encima de “lo que se hace” y de “lo que ocurre”; y la prevalencia del tratamiento de la adaptación sobre la mitigación. Como propuesta de desinfoxicación, desde un periodismo en transición, sugerimos apoyar el valor del punto focal de 350 ppm de CO2; la prevalencia de tratar “lo que se hace” y “lo que ocurre” sobre “lo que se dice”; y propiciar un equilibrio en el volumen de tratamiento de la adaptación y la mitigación.

Nuestra inteligencia colectiva y con ella nuestro posicionamiento “glocal†dependen estrechamente de la operación a gran escala de los media existentes en las redes (motores de búsqueda, redes sociales, Wikis etc.). El origen digital de tales medios, y su dependencia de las ciencias de la computación las hace adoptar formas distintivas en relación especÃfica con el diseño de software. Dada esta situación, es importante señalar la condición limitada, particular a nuestro contacto fenomenológico y cognitivo con las infraestructuras de red que lo soportan. El presente trabajo trata de resumir una investigación personal sobre la visualidad en las redes, que tiene por objetivo proveer de contexto teórico a una próxima experimentación artÃstica en el ámbito de los nuevos medios. Ésta, órbita alrededor de una serie de cuestiones que surgen en relación con la noción de “interfaz cibernéticaâ€, entendida como la parte visible de todo un complejo infraestructural. Se destacan cuatro principales focos de incidencia: 1. Valoración de la estructura en capas de abstracción funcional, propias de la gestión mediada: arquitectura, protocolos y algoritmos que componen la “vida†tecno-material de la red. 2. La doble acepción de “colectividad†en las redes: la generación de contenidos por parte de usuarios, y su oscilación entre lo procomún y la recolección de datos. 3. Atención al término acuñado por James Bridle: “New Aestheticsâ€, y la iniciativa de señalar la creciente autonomÃa de lo digital en su vocación de referir lo real desde sus propios términos. Circunstancia puesta en relación con las inquietudes de la sociologÃa contemporánea por considerar la implicación de los agentes no-humanos en las dinámicas sociales propias de la ecologÃa on-line. 4. Impacto sobre casos concretos: prácticas artÃsticas contemporáneas sujetas al contexto digital desde sus estrategias formales, sea en complicidad, o en actitud de resistencia en un ejercicio de contra-diseño.

El hombre y la naturaleza, dos palabras que saltan con frecuencia a las páginas de diarios y libros, las pronuncian en la radio y la televisión o simplemente en conversaciones. Y hay que señalar que hasta hace poco el término 'ecología' lo conocía sólo un reducido grupo de especialistas. Preservar la naturaleza y además no reducir sino elevar su fecundidad a fin de que no sólo nosotros sino también las generaciones venideras puedan disfrutar de sus riquezas, es una de las tareas más importantes. Una tarea que no puede dejar a nadie indiferente. En este artículo se hace un análisis ingenieril a la relación naturaleza, átomo y hombre, con el objeto de esclarecer y, de cierta forma colaborar, para que los seres humanos comprendan que es una simbiosis necesaria para el futuro de la humanidad.

El neotrópico es sitio de origen de gran variedad de plantas que actualmente son cultivadas con éxito en diferentes regiones del mundo. Sin embargo, condiciones climáticas adversas, que se pueden ver acrecentadas por efectos del cambio climático antropogénico, pueden afectar su rendimiento y productividad debido a las situaciones de estrés abiótico que se pueden generar. Como alternativa para contrarrestar estos efectos, se ha experimentado con modificaciones genéticas, particularmente en genes relacionados con la producción de osmolitos y factores de transcripción que han llevado a que estas plantas, a nivel experimental, tengan mayor tolerancia a estrés oxidativo, altas y bajas temperaturas y fotoinhibición, sequía y salinidad, mediante la acumulación de osmoprotectores, la regulación en la expresión de genes y cambios en el fenotipo. En este trabajo se presentan y describen las estrategias metodológicas planteadas con estos fines y se complementan con ejemplos de trabajos realizados en cultivos de origen neotropical de importancia económica, como maíz, algodón, papa y tomate. Además, y debido a la novedad y potencial que ofrece la edición génica por medio del sistema CRISPR/Cas9, también se mencionan trabajos realizados en plantas con origen neotropical, enfocados en comprender e implementar mecanismos de tolerancia a sequía. Las metodologías aquí descritas podrían constituirse en opciones prácticas para mejorar la seguridad alimentaria con miras a contrarrestar las consecuencias negativas del cambio climático antropogénico.

Los impactos sobre los servicios de los ecosistemas debidos a la actividad humana son un hecho. Los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio (MDGs), las propuestas de mitigación y adaptación del Grupo ínter gubernamental de expertos sobre Cambio Climático (IPCC) en sus sucesivos informes, así como las propuestas por parte de Millenium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) no pueden pasar desapercibidos para los proyectos en general y para los proyectos de construcción en particular. La cantidad de residuos generados por el sector así como la cantidad de recursos consumidos (energía, materias primas) en todo el ciclo de vida (construcción, explotación, mantenimiento y deconstrucción) contribuyen decididamente al aumento de la huella ecológica humana. Los objetivos y requisitos para la Dirección Integrada de Proyectos de Ingeniería Civil tienen que cambiar. El fin ya no es sólo la consecución del triple objetivo (plazo, coste y calidad) y de las prestaciones establecidas por el promotor. Ahora existen nuevos objetivos y requisitos de sostenibilidad en los proyectos de construcción. Se analizan las herramientas y técnicas realizadas en el campo de la construcción para lograr la consecución de una construcción más sostenible y se propone un marco metodológico de gestión sostenible dentro de los estándares de Dirección Integrada de Proyectos.Impacts on ecosystem services, due to human activity, are already a fact. The objectives of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the alleviation and adjustment proposals from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in their consecutive reports, as well as the proposals by the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) cannot go unnoticed for general projects and for particular construction projects. The amount of waste material generated by the sector, as well as the amount of resources consumed (energy, raw materials) by the whole life cycle (construction, exploitation, maintenance and deconstruction) definitely contributes to increase the human ecological footprint. The goals and requirements for the Integrated Project Management must change. The objective is no longer the achievement of a triple goal (time, costs and quality) and the performance established by the developer. Nowadays there are new sustain ability goals and requirements for construction projects. Tools and development techniques are analyzed in the construction field, in order to get a construction achievement in a more sustainable way; and a methodological framework for sustainable management according to standards of Integrated Project Management is proposed.

El artículo examina la composición de los ingresos monetarios y el patrimonio familiar de hogares ubicados en 2 tipos de asentamientos de reforma agraria: convencional (PA) y ambientalmente diferenciado (Proyecto de Desarrollo Sostenible, PDS). El estudio cuantitativo se realizó mediante aplicación de diagnósticos en 2 PAs y 2 PDS ubicados en Anapu, estado de Pará. Los resultados indican diferencias entre las dos modalidades de asentamiento, especialmente en los niveles de capitalización y estrategias productivas. Los PDS presentan un promedio anual de ingresos monetarios de R$ 27.807, significativamente inferior al de los PAs (R$ 47.815). El resultado es similar para el valor promedio del patrimonio familiar: R$ 363.797 en PAs y R$ 172.680 en PDS. La falta de inversión estatal en infraestructura y en ayudas a la producción ha contribuido al abandono de muchas parcelas por parte de sus propietarios, situación más frecuente en los PDS, por su menor nivel de capitalización, corroborando que esta modalidad presenta dificultades para promover el desarrollo sostenible.

To understand the rules by which family estates are transmitted among farming families,particularly in the case of land and taking into account gender differences, it is necessary toidentify the distinct roles reserved to men and women in the dynamics of social reproduction. Theunderstanding of these distinct logics requires the investigation of the different meanings that theterritorial patrimony itself has in each social and cultural context.Although inheritance is based on the notion of shared blood, common law rules do not recognizethe same rights for all children. It is precisely these differences that we will deal with in this article,particularly in respect to those differences derived from gender identity. The acid sphingomyelinase/ceramide system has been shown to be important for cellular infection with at least some viruses, for instance rhinovirus or SARS-CoV-2. Functional inhibition of the acid sphingomyelinase using tricyclic antidepressants prevented infection of epithelial cells, for instance with SARS-CoV-2. The structure of ambroxol, i.e. trans-4-[(2,4-dibromanilin-6-yl)-methyamino]-cyclohexanol, a mucolytic drug applied by inhalation, suggests that the drug might inhibit the acid sphingomyelinase, and thereby infection with SARS-CoV-2. To test this, we used spike protein pseudotyped viral particles (pp-VSV-SARS-CoV-2 spike), a bona fide system for mimicking SARS-CoV-2 entry into cells. Viral uptake and formation of ceramide localization were determined by fluorescence microscopy, activity of the acid sphingomyelinase by consumption of [14C]sphingomyelin and ceramide was quantified by a kinase method. We found that entry of pp-VSV-SARS-CoV-2 spike required activation of acid sphingomyelinase and release of ceramide, events that were all prevented by pretreatment with ambroxol. We also obtained nasal epithelial cells from human volunteers prior to and after inhalation of ambroxol. Inhalation of ambroxol reduced acid sphingomyelinase activity in nasal epithelial cells, and prevented pp-VSV-SARS-CoV-2 spike-induced acid sphingomyelinase activation, ceramide release, and entry of pp-VSV-SARS-CoV-2 spike ex vivo. The addition of purified acid sphingomyelinase or C16 ceramide restored entry of pp-VSV-SARS-CoV-2 spike into ambroxol-treated epithelial cells. We propose that ambroxol might be suitable for clinical studies to prevent COVID-19.

Abstract Background SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV) is the etiologic agent of the severe acute respiratory syndrome. SARS-CoV mainly infects tissues of non-lymphatic origin, and the cytokine profile of those cells can determine the course of disease. Here, we investigated the cytokine response of two human non-lymphatic cell lines, Caco-2 and HEK 293, which are fully permissive for SARS-CoV. Results A comparison with established cytokine-inducing viruses revealed that SARS-CoV only weakly triggered a cytokine response. In particular, SARS-CoV did not activate significant transcription of the interferons IFN-α, IFN-β, IFN-λ1, IFN-λ2/3, as well as of the interferon-induced antiviral genes ISG56 and MxA, the chemokine RANTES and the interleukine IL-6. Interestingly, however, SARS-CoV strongly induced the chemokines IP-10 and IL-8 in the colon carcinoma cell line Caco-2, but not in the embryonic kidney cell line 293. Conclusion Our data indicate that SARS-CoV suppresses the antiviral cytokine system of non-immune cells to a large extent, thus buying time for dissemination in the host. However, synthesis of IP-10 and IL-8, which are established markers for acute-stage SARS, escapes the virus-induced silencing at least in some cell types. Therefore, the progressive infiltration of immune cells into the infected lungs observed in SARS patients could be due to the production of these chemokines by the infected tissue cells.
