Neste artigo é apresentado o caso da agricultura ecológica de Ipê e Antônio Prado no Rio Grande do Sul. O objetivo é analisar o processo de mudança sociotécnica, identificando as inovações produzidas e as relações e mecanismos pelas quais estas alterações adquirem o caráter de novidade e, assim, dão forma a um processo de transição agroecológica nestes municípios. As principais referências teóricas são a Perspectiva Multinível de análise das transições (PMN) e a abordagem da ‘produção de novidades’ na agricultura. Os dados e informações apresentados foram coletados através de entrevistas semiestruturadas e de observação do participante com técnicos e agricultores ecologistas durante o período de 2012-2013, e atualizados em 2017-2018. Também foram utilizados, para a análise, documentos técnicos produzidos por agricultores e técnicos ecologistas do município. Pôde-se observar que, a partir do momento em que as famílias optaram pela agricultura sem agroquímicos, a qual é chamada localmente de agricultura ecológica, e que passaram a comercializar os produtos desta agricultura numa feira em Porto Alegre, tem início um processo de transformações encadeadas e correlacionadas em outros aspectos da produção material e do ambiente institucional no qual as famílias operam. Neste encadeamento, outras inovações emergem, tais como novas técnicas de cultivo, novos insumos produtivos, novos equipamentos, alterações na legislação de alimentos, novos produtos processados, novos espaços de comercialização, novas associações e grupos de agricultores ecologistas. Este caráter multidimensional das mudanças ocorridas permite o delineamento de uma ‘teia’ de novidades, ou de um nicho de inovação em agricultura ecológica, o qual representa o nível local do processo de transição agroecológica.

Além dessa demanda por estudos quanto a novos serviços, procedimentos inovadores e modernização da gestão, o presente artigo busca reforçar a necessidade de estudos sobre a qualidade da governança. Utilizamos para tanto a descrição da estratégia de desenvolvimento do Acre como estudo de caso, evidenciando o papel relevante da gestão pública na melhoria da qualidade de vida naquele estado, e sua preparação aos impactos das mudanças climáticas. A análise permite refletir sobre a importância do contexto político e social do qual surgem inovações, para além da replicação de receituários, sendo a gestão de conhecimento indutora a inovações.

O objetivo foi analisar as agroindústrias familiares no tocante à diversificação da atividade da agricultura no Semiárido da Paraíba – Brasil. Os aspectos metodológicos se pautaram em dois conceitos estruturadores, quais sejam: a economia solidária e a inovação social. Os procedimentos adotados foram: sensibilização in lócus; prospecção; levantamento bibliográfico e análise descritiva. Quanto aos resultados destacaram-se as experiências construídas de modo intuitivo por parte das agricultoras e agricultores e, no momento seguinte, a busca por organização que resultou no Fórum Sertanejo da Economia Solidária, que dá um apoio no tocante à orientação das práticas coletivas. Portanto, houve o fortalecimento das Associações: Várzea Comprida dos Oliveiras, localizada em Pombal/PB; Riacho dos Currais em São Bentinho/PB e; Poços de Baixo em Teixeira/PB; e, consequentemente a constituição das agroindústrias “Bolo das Oliveiras”, “Emana Mel” e “Sabor da Serra”, que contam com 19, 12 e, 25 agricultores e agricultoras. A produção varia entre fabricação de bolos e derivados da panificação, passando pelo beneficiamento de mel e, processamento de polpa de frutas. Estas atividades produtivas estão se destacando na região tanto pelo modo de organização quanto pelo papel preponderante das mulheres no tocante a liderança. Desse modo, tem garantido a soberania e a segurança alimentar e nutricional, primeiro na comunidade rural e, depois, influenciando os hábitos alimentares nas cidades, controlando e evitando o desperdício de alimentos, além de contribuir com a preservação dos elementos da natureza. Concluiu-se que as ações desenvolvidas estão se revelando como contribuições para a transformação da agricultura familiar.

O presente artigo, derivado do projeto de tese defendido pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, tem como objetivo apresentar uma proposta de framework que permita observar a presença de inovação social, tecnologias sociais e empreendedorismo coletivo em relacionamentos intercooperativos. As cooperativas escolhidas para análise da relação de intercooperação são as do Sistema de Cooperativas de Crédito Rural da Agricultura Familiar e Economia Solidária - CREDITAG em Rondônia. O estudo se configura como exploratório, com dados primários, coletados através de 11 entrevistas em profundidade, permitindo identificar as tecnologias sociais desenvolvidas, motivação para o empreendedorismo coletivo, despertando, nos cooperados, interesse por novas habilidades, projetando-se como um importante processo de inovação social./This paper derived from the thesis project defended by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, aimed to propose a framework that allows the observation of the presence of social innovation, socialtechnologies and collective entrepreneurship in interorganizational relationships. The cooperatives chosen to analyze the relationship of Inter-cooperation are the cooperatives of the Rural System of CreditCooperatives of Family Farming and Economic Solidarity - CREDITAG in Rondônia. The study was set up as an experiment, with primary data collected through 11 in-depth interviews, to identify the social technologies developed, motivation for collective entrepreneurship, awakening new interest in cooperative skills and projecting itself as an important process of social innovation.

A tecnologia empregada na agricultura orgânica e no processamento pós-colheita vem desenvolvendo um padrão produtivo bastante distinto à agricultura 'moderna'. O desejo do consumidor de adquirir um alimento que não venha causar risco a sua saúde foi alterando o mercado, e o produto orgânico passa a ser preferido e mais valorizado por um segmento da população. Sem o uso de agroquímicos, a agricultura orgânica recupera conceitos tradicionais e se renova a partir da utilização de inovações tecnológicas intensivas em conhecimento. A proposta deste trabalho é estudar os aspectos da inovação no processamento pós-colheita de uma fazenda de produção orgânica, especificamente na embalagem e no processamento mínimo, impulsionada pela exigência de certificação, em um estudo de caso na região do Centro-Oeste brasileiro. O artigo aborda as características históricas da inovação na agricultura, as dificuldades de investimento em tecnologias na agricultura orgânica e a questão da certificação. Este estudo de caso foi realizado a partir de uma série de entrevistas. Os resultados fazem perceber que as modificações nas rotinas internas da empresa e a adoção de uma série de normas técnicas viabilizaram o processo de inovação, possibilitando a adequação da fazenda para obter a certificação exigida para atender ao mercado.The technology used in organic farming and post-harvest processing is contributing to the development of production standards that are quite different from those of modern agriculture. The desire of consumers to acquire food that does not endanger their health is changing the market; and organic products are coming to be preferred and valued by a growing segment of the population. In not using chemical products, organic farming returns to and renews traditional farming concepts by means of knowledge-intensive technological innovations. The objective of the case study reported here was to investigate innovations in the post-harvest processing of organic produce on a farm in the Central-Western region of Brazil. The innovation process was driven by certification requirements, specifically those dealing with minimal processing and packaging. The article addresses the historic characteristics of innovation in agriculture, the difficulties of investment in technologies in organic farming and the competitiveness of the present market. The study was conducted through a series of interviews. Results demonstrate that the modifications in internal routines and the adoption of technical standards induced by the certification process were responsible for the innovations, permitting the production of high-standard organic produce for the market.

Antibiotic prescribing practices across the Veterans' Health Administration (VA) experienced significant shifts during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. From 2015 to 2019, antibiotic use between January and May decreased from 638 to 602 days of therapy (DOT) per 1,000 days present (DP), while the corresponding months in 2020 saw antibiotic utilization rise to 628 DOT per 1,000 DP.

The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of the pandemic on inpatient hospital admissions during the first wave in Portugal. Data from hospital admissions in mainland Portugal from 2008 to 2017 were used to forecast inpatient hospital admissions for March to May 2020. The observed number of hospitalizations and their characteristics were compared to forecasted values. Variations were compared by hospital and region. Statistical analysis was used to investigate whether patterns of variations existed according to hospital characteristics. There were 119,315 fewer hospitalizations than expected during March to May 2020 in Portugal, which represented a 57% reduction. Non-COVID-19 hospitalizations had a higher mean length of stay and proportion of inpatient deaths than forecasted values. Differences between observed and forecasted values varied greatly among regions and hospitals. These variations were not associated with COVID-19 hospital admissions, region, forecasted number of hospitalizations, type of hospital, or occupation rate. The impact on inpatient hospital admissions for each hospital was not consistent or proportional to the expected use across Portugal, as indicated by variations between forecasted and observed values. The appropriate planning of future responses may contribute to improving the necessary balance between the level of hospital admissions for usual health needs of the population and the response to COVID-19 patients.
