Soil-quality indicators are useful elements in evaluating the impact of some agricultural management practices, and the use of recognized indicators which are able to be measured by farmers is an innovative approach that seeks to integrate both scientific and local knowledge. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of various management practices through indicators of soil quality related to soil structure, in areas of family farming where agroecological consortiums are employed. These indicators were identified as important by the farmers themselves, and methodologies were suggested for field application by the farmers, which were later compared to applications made in the laboratory. The indicators used were penetration resistance of the soil and stability and dispersion of aggregates for areas of agroecological consortium and natural vegetation. It can be concluded that agroecological consortia contribute to the conservation of soil structure and that the involvement of farmers plays an important role in developing research.Práticas conservacionistas são importantes na melhoria da proteção ambiental de agroecossistemas em regiões semiáridas por estes serem considerados ambientes frágeis. Indicadores de qualidade do solo são elementos úteis na avaliação do impacto de algumas práticas de manejo agrícola e a utilização de indicadores reconhecidos e possíveis de serem mensurados por agricultores é uma abordagem inovadora que busca integrar conhecimento científico e local. Este estudo objetivou avaliar o impacto de algumas práticas de manejo em áreas de agricultores familiares que utilizam consórcios agroecológicos através de indicadores de qualidade do solo relacionados à estrutura do solo. Estes indicadores foram apontados como importantes pelos próprios agricultores, sendo propostas metodologias para aplicação em campo por eles mesmos, que foram posteriormente comparadas com aplicações em laboratório. Os indicadores utilizados foram resistência do solo à penetração, estabilidade e dispersão de agregados para áreas sob consórcio agroecológico e vegetação natural. Pode-se concluir que os consórcios agroecológicos contribuem para a conservação da estrutura do solo e o envolvimento dos agricultores é uma importante parte do desenvolvimento da pesquisa. These dendricolous habitats are very different from other recorded mosquito breeding sites. Anopheles cruzii, quanto à freqüência horária, apresentou picos nas primeiras horas da noite, depois a sua atividade decresceu progressivamente até o crepúsculo matutino, sem apresentar um pico secundário. Em referência a distribuição mensal, Anopheles cruzii foi mais freqüente nos meses de abril e maio de 1995 e março de 1996. Não houve correlação do número de exemplares com a temperatura ou precipitações pluviométricas. Culex ribeirensis apresentou maior atividade de vôo de 22h às 4h, mas não houve picos significativos. Nas coletas obtidas por mês, Culex ribeirensis teve picos em dezembro e janeiro. Houve correlação do número de espécimes deste culicíneo com a temperatura e precipitações pluviométricas. Constituem os primeiros registros para o Estado do Paraná: Ochlerotatus rhyacophilus, Culex misionensis, Culex pedroi, Culex ribeirensis e Culex zeteki.A study of adult mosquitoes was performed from April 1995 to March 1996 in the Atlantic Forest near to Morretes city, Paraná, Brazil. The research was carried out by using two CDC-M light traps installed in different vertical stratification levels. Mosquitoes were collected monthly throughout the year from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., with total work hours of 144. A number of 1,408 specimens of mosquitoes was obtained (409 at canopy level and 999 near the ground), belonging to 10 genera and 31 species. Anopheles cruzii and Culex ribeirensis were predominant and are the main subjects of the present study. Difference was not observed between the traps for Anopheles cruzii. However, the higher number of Culex ribeirensis was collected in CDC-M/ground. According to time intervals, Anopheles cruzii showed peaks in the early hours of the night, and decreased progressively until dawn, without a secondary peak. As for the monthly distribution, Anopheles cruzii was more frequent in April and May 1995 and March 1996. Correlations between specimens and temperature or rainfall were not significant. The flight activity of Culex ribeirensis was more intense from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m., but significant peaks were not observed. The monthly distribution of Culex ribeirensis showed peaks in December and January. Significant correlation of this culicine was found for temperature and rainfall. Stuart Description An account of the resource Abstract Background Healthcare workers (HCWs) are at particular risk during pandemics and epidemics of highly virulent diseases with significant morbidity and case fatality rate. These diseases include severe acute respiratory syndrome coronaviruses, SARS-CoV-1 and SARS-CoV-2, Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), and Ebola. With the current (SARS-CoV-2) global pandemic, it is critical to delineate appropriate contextual respiratory protection for HCWs. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effect of powered air-purifying respirators (PAPRs) as part of respiratory protection versus another device (egN95/FFP2) on HCW infection rates and contamination. Methods Our primary outcomes included HCW infection rates with SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV-1, Ebola, or MERS when utilizing PAPR. We included randomized controlled trials, non-randomized controlled trials, and observational studies. We searched the following databases: MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library (Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and CENTRAL). Two reviewers independently screened all citations, full-text articles, and abstracted data. Due to clinical and methodological heterogeneity, we did not conduct a meta-analysis. Where applicable, we constructed evidence profile (EP) tables for each individual outcome. Confidence in cumulative evidence for each outcome was classified according to the GRADE system. Results We identified 689 studies during literature searches. We included 10 full-text studies. A narrative synthesis was provided. Two on-field studies reported no difference in the rates of healthcare workers performing airway procedures during the care of critical patients with SARS-CoV-2. A single simulation trial reported a lower level of cross-contamination of participants using PAPR compared to alternative respiratory protection. There is moderate quality evidence that PAPR use is associated with greater heat tolerance but lower scores for mobility and communication ability. We identified a trend towards greater self-reported wearer comfort with PAPR technology in low-quality observational simulation studies. Conclusion Field observational studies do not indicate a difference in healthcare worker infection utilizing PAPR devices versus other compliant respiratory equipment. Greater heat tolerance accompanied by lower scores of mobility and audibility in PAPR was identified. Further pragmatic studies are needed in order to delineate actual effectiveness and provider satisfaction with PAPR technology. Se evaluó el efecto de siete fungicidas orgánicos, uno químico, el método de embolsado de frutos y un testigo en el control de fumagina en hojas y frutos de mango “Manila”, en Veracruz, México. Los resultados mostraron que los biofungicidas Bio hcaz 3.5, Bio fyb 1.5, Fungicus ph 4 y Fungicus ph 8 alcanzaron valores del 95 % de hojas en las categorías sano y ligero (daños inferiores del 5 %). El porcentaje de frutos sanos fue de 98 % para el embolsado, 82 % para el Benomil, 80 % para Sunset 3 y 78 % para Sulfocop 4 y Bio fyb 1.5. Bio fyb 1.5 mostró buen control de la fumagina en hoja y frutos. La aplicación de productos orgánicos no influyó en rendimiento y calidad de frutos. A mineração e as atividades agropecuárias foram exercidas na região até os anos 60, quando a atividade principal passou a ser o turismo, a partir da criação do Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros e da inauguração de Brasília. Em 2000, o fluxo de turistas decaiu devido a problemas relativos à saúde pública, acarretando estagnação da economia local. Nos últimos anos, produtores familiares despertaram para a existência, ali, de um café que pode ser comercializado em nichos de mercado de grãos especiais: orgânicos e de origem definida, e buscaram, na Embrapa, o desenvolvimento de projeto de pesquisa. O estudo na região revelou que por meio do desvelamento de valores - história, cultura e tradições - é possível estabelecer estratégia mais eficiente de busca de mercado, a partir da experiência revelada no trabalho concreto e na cultura dos produtores. E que o desenvolvimento rural deve ser buscado por meio do desenvolvimento de atividades da nova ruralidade e da aplicação de abordagem territorial de desenvolvimento.This work presents main results of how inhabitants of Alto Paraíso de Goias are seeking alternatives to sustainable development through the implantation, by Embrapa, of a project about the rescue of coffee. Mining and farming activities were developed in the region until its main activity turned into tourism in 1960, with the creation of the National Park of the Chapada dos Veadeiros, and inauguration of Brasilia. In 2000, flow of tourists dropped due to problems related to public health, resulting in the stagnation of local economy. Over the last years, family producers woken up for the existence of a coffee that can be sold in niche markets for special coffees - organic and from defined origins - and counted on Embrapa to develop the research project. The study revealed that by unveiling values - history, culture and traditions -, it is possible to establish more efficient strategy for search in the market, from revealed experience in concrete job and producers culture. In addition, it revealed that rural development in that region must be sought through the development of activities of the new rurality and the implementation of a territorial approach.
