Son numerosas las evidencias que demuestran que al incentivar la producción de agrocombustibles se promueve el monocultivo, lo cual conduce al deterioro de los suelos, generando una mayor dificultad para asegurar una producción nacional de alimentos que garantice la disponibilidad como componente esencial de la seguridad alimentaria y nutricional. Con el maíz necesario para producir el etanol que requiere un automóvil del primer mundo para recorrer 32.000 km/año, podrían cubrirse las necesidades calóricas diarias de una persona durante 62 años. En Colombia, por ejemplo, la mayoría de las regiones y departamentos que hacen parte de los grandes megaproyectos para la producción de agrocombustibles supera de manera importante el promedio nacional en desnutrición crónica que es del 12% para los menores de cinco años y de 12,6% para los escolares, según los resultados de la ENSIN 2005). El objetivo de este trabajo fue caracterizada la agrodiversidad de los huertos caseros en una zona de la región Andina del sur de Colombia (Ancuya, Nariño), localizado en las coordenadas 1°15`59,52”LN, 77°31`63”LO. Se muestrearon 120 predios en 13 veredas, donde se aplicaron encuestas semiestructuradas con 31 variables. La información se procesó mediante el análisis de Correspondencias Múltiples (ACM), y análisis de agrupamiento. Para el el estudio de la composición florística del huerto tipo, se utilizó la metodología del área mínima. A las especies leñosas se les determinó el diámetro a la altura del pecho (DAP) tomando especies con DAP ≥ a 10cm. Se estimaron variables ecológicas como frecuencia, dominancia, abundancia e índice de valor de importancia (IVI). Se obtuvieron cinco factores que explican el 30,39% de la variabilidad. Predomina el factor uno cuyas variables están relacionadas con la diversidad de especies presentes en los huertos caseros. Se concluye que en la composición florística del huerto tipo, se encontraron 142 especies, entre árboles, arbustos, cultivos alimenticios y medicinales pertenecientes a 126 géneros y 66 familias. La familia predominante es Lamiaceae con 10 especies. Se discuten en este trabajo algunos de los mecanismos biológicos que forman la base del sistema de aboneras, especialmente los relacionados con la dinámica de nutrimentos. También están analizadas algunas tendencias a largo plazo de la fertilidad química y física de los suelos. La metodología empleada está basada sobre el uso de cronosecuencias que aprovechan la variabilidad de fechas de adopción de la rotación para detectar cambios a largo plazo en el sistema de aboneras. Conclui-se que há um potencial positivo da utilização da agroecologia como instrumento para o desenvolvimento sustentável de agricultores familiares, realçando-se a importância do apoio do poder público na dinamização deste processo.The paper analyzes the adoption of agro-ecological techniques by a group of small family farmers in a region of the State of Paraná. The sample of the farmers to be interviewed was obtained by applying a methodology of fast rural assessment and relied on the work of a non governmental organization (AS-PTA) that has the major responsible for the technological change in the region. A typology of producers and agrarian systems was obtained, which made it possible to evaluate the technological trajectories followed. A negative correlation was observed between the capitalization level of the farm unity and the adoption of agro-ecological techniques, suggesting that the latter are being introduced as a low risk strategy to improve the production conditions within a context of labor abundance and capital scarcity. The paper concludes that it is worth to support those farmers in their decision through more focused public policies (credit and scientific research).
