La pandemia causada por el SARS-CoV-2 ha demandado a todas las profesiones repensar y restructurar sus roles para lidiar con la COVID-19, asegurando y reafirmando la importancia de sus contribuciones frente a la complejidad de las exigencias del momento que vivimos. La Terapia Ocupacional ha venido participando de este proceso a través de diferentes iniciativas, centrando la atención en el cotidiano de las personas, quienes, en sus diferentes modos de vida, tienen en común la necesidad del distanciamiento social impuesto por la transmisión acelerada del virus y por las debilidades e imposibilidades de los sistemas de vigilancia sanitaria y epidemiológica de muchos países. No obstante, consideramos que nuestro rol es fundamental en el ámbito de la seguridad social, en consonancia con las políticas sociales y, especialmente, abordando importantes situaciones relacionadas con las inequidades sociales que impactan la vida de las personas, los grupos y las comunidades con quienes trabajamos, especialmente en Brasil.

Objetivo: Identificar a prevalência do sentimento de angústia autorreferido e seus fatores relacionados, bem como a adesão ao isolamento social de universitários da área da saúde durante a pandemia da COVID-19. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo transversal, desenvolvido em uma universidade privada e filantrópica, localizada no município de Fortaleza, Ceará, Brasil, com coleta de dados em junho 2020. Participaram 541 universitários (> 18 anos) da área da saúde, que responderam um formulário eletrônico para coletar as variáveis demográficas relacionadas à pandemia da COVID-19, sentimentos de angústia e preocupação. Realizaram-se análises bivariada e multivariada para avaliar as relações com o desfecho sentimento de angústia. Resultados: Do total dos universitários, 89,5% (n=489) disseram estar angustiados, 90,4% (n=489) eram favoráveis ao isolamento social e 93,5% (n=503) aderiram ao isolamento social como combate à COVID 19. Na análise multivariada, o sentimento de angústia relatado pelos universitários apresentou relação com a preocupação com o mundo (OR=4,099; p=0,000). Conclusão: O sentimento de angústia apresentado pelos universitários esteve relacionado ao sentimento de preocupação com o mundo e a serem predominantemente favoráveis ao isolamento social, e, por isso, aderiram a essa medida de enfrentamento do novo coronavírus.

A técnica de solarização e da cobertura vegetal são estratégias de manejo de plantas daninhas importantes para reduzir a mão-de-obra e outras limitações impostas pelo controle mecânico, porém a eficiência e resposta na composição florística desses métodos varia conforme manejo realizado na agricultura familiar. Dessa forma, o objetivo desse trabalho é avaliar o efeito supressivo da solarização e cobertura com capim-elefante (Pennisetum purpureum Schum.) sobre a emergência de plantas daninhas, bem como identificar e quantificar as espécies daninhas presentes através do levantamento fitossociológico. O experimento foi conduzido a campo no ano agrícola 2017/2018, utilizando delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em esquema fatorial, onde o fator A compara a solarização (presença e ausência); e o fator B a cobertura com capim-elefante (sem e com). Realizou-se o levantamento fitossociológico e avaliação da massa seca da parte aérea das plantas daninhas em resposta aos tratamentos. A adição do capim-elefante na superfície do solo atua como supressor da diversidade de plantas daninhas, como Ageratum conyzoides, Urochloa plantaginea, Galinsoga parviflora, Polygonum persicaria, Spermacoce latifolia, Sida sp. e Stachys arvensis. Enquanto que a solarização, aumenta o valor de importância do Cyperus sp. nas parcelas sem a utilização da cobertura vegetal. Ainda, a solarização realizada por 20 dias não foi eficiente para o controle das plantas daninhas.

In the sustainable organic waste management context, this study was carried out to explore the potential of easily available composts and organic by-products for Pinus halepensis forestry in Mediterranean areas. The study consisted in four experiments using locally abundant organic waste: experiments I and IV evaluated their suitability as fertilizers for nurseries and pine replanting respectively; experiment II considered vermicompost efficiency as a root-growth promoter; experiment III assessed the aptitude of organic waste as a component of forestry substrates. Different plant measurements, morphological attributes and analytical determinations were used to assess seedling quality and to evaluate substrates and fertilizers' aptitude. Fertilization experiments run under nursery conditions showed that organic waste produced plantlets with similar morphological and nutritional states to mineral products with good quality standards. In pine replanting, organic fertilization clearly increased soil organic matter levels, enhancing soil nutritional and structural conditions. When evaluating different mixtures as substrate, no large differences appeared among treatments, except for the seedlings grown in virgin or recycled coconut fiber, where greater aerial development was achieved. Further research is needed to comprehend why the use of vermicompost as a root-growth promoter did not produce the expected effects. The obtained results indicate that organic by-products and composts can substitute the mineral fertilizers and substrates usually employed in the Mediterranean Region in P. halepensis forestry to contribute to develop a local circular economy.

El presente artículo se propone analizar, desde un enfoque socioantropológico, el rol que asume la territorialidad en la representación y definición del “ser campesino” entre los miembros del Movimiento Campesino de Santiago del Estero – Vía Campesina (MOCASEVC), pertenecientes a un paraje rural de la Central de Quimilí de dicha organización. Background: The new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus affects a large number of people worldwide, and the elderly are particularly affected because of their vulnerability. Thus, the elderly patients and those with comorbidities have an increased risk of developing a severe disease and show an increased mortality rate. Although they may show mild symptoms of illness and low-grade fever in the early days, they may worsen clinically rapidly, requiring ongoing monitoring. Material and methods: The prospective study was performed on a group of 96 patients (mean age 61.41 ± 3.42 years), with a predominance of men, hospitalized in the Holy Trinity Hospital of Chisinau who met the clinical case definition and were laboratory case-confirmed with COVID-19. Patients were clinically and paraclinically investigated according to the WHO Provisional National Clinical Protocol for COVID-19 infection reporting. The data were statistically processed by the Statistics 10 program. Results: Of the 96 patients with COVID-19, 85 (88.54%) reported at least one had a comorbidity. The prevalence of comorbidities was the following: chronic coronary syndromes (40.1%), hypertension (39.7%), diabetes (16.04%), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (17.3%), malignancy (13.04%), cerebrovascular disease (10.6%), chronic kidney disease (4.3%) and viral hepatitis B (1.8%). Severe cases of the disease were revealed – 58, medium severity – 38 cases. All critical cases resulting in death (7.29%) showed comorbidities with respiratory symptoms, as well as with the onset of acute respiratory failure. Conclusions: The elderly, male gender and the presence of comorbidities in patients with COVID-19 determine the severe course of the disease and an increased mortality rate.

Numerous contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) have been found in different water bodies. Directive 2013/39/EU and Decision 2018/840/EU are consequently being implemented in the field of water policies. Twelve CECs (e.g., isoproturon, ciprofloxacin, and clarithromycin are among those listed) were detected in a municipal wastewater secondary effluent by means of solid phase extraction and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (SPE-UHPLC-MS/MS). Different advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), based on the combination of ozone, UVA-LED and powdered TiO2, were investigated for their removal in a semi-batch operation. In addition, TiO2-coated glass rings (P25R) were characterized with different techniques (SEM, WDXRF) and used for continuous mode operation in a packed bed reactor (PBR). Among the AOPs studied, ozone-based processes were found to be more efficient than heterogeneous photocatalysis. A kinetic study was performed showing that direct ozonation is the main oxidation pathway for CEC removal. Ozone was successfully decomposed in combination with UVA-LED and P25R, resulting in an apparent rate constant of 3.2 × 10−2 s−1 higher than in the O3/LED system (1.0 × 10−3 s−1) or with ozone alone (8.6 × 10−5 s−1). Hydroxyl radical reaction could prevail over direct ozone reaction for the most refractory compounds (e.g., isoproturon).

Objective. To study the trophic ecology of Saccodon dariensis in the Peñoles and El Cardal streams, Guatape River mid-basin, Magdalena River Basin, Colombia. Materials and methods. To compare differences in size between individuals from the two streams in terms of hydrologic periods, oral polymorphisms or sexes, an analysis of variance was conducted (ANOVA). Volume percentages, frequency of occurrence and the food importance index (FII) were determined; a principal component analysis (PCA) and an ANOVA was carried out to determine the diet differences between streams, climatic periods, oral polymorphism, sexes and developmental states, as well as a Mann-Whitney pairwise comparison test for each food category. Results. A significant difference was found in size between individuals of the two streams with different oral polymorphism. Algae are the most important food item (FII: 91.9%), followed by Trichoptera and insect remains (FII: 4.3%), and vegetal material (FII: 1.8%). The PCA did not indicate significant differences in diet between streams, climatic periods, oral polymorphisms, sexes or developmental states, but the ANOVA and Mann-Whitney pairwise comparison test indicated differences in oral morphotype, where individuals with a straight mouth consumed more vegetal material. We also observed different proportions in consumption of different algae genera, and increased consumption of insects in ontogeny, this being higher in individuals with a straight mouth. Conclusions. The species is algaevorous. The oral morphotypes of S. dariensis may be related to a trophic polymorphism that confers different trophic habits and differential access to the items that constitute their diet.

Este artículo tiene como objetivo identificar los factores críticos que han permitido desarrollar la extensión con fondos del Programa de Regionalización Interuniversitaria, administrados por la Vicerrectoría de Investigación y Extensión (VIE) del Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC), área socio-productivo-tecnológica, en el territorio indígena de Talamanca. El modelo académico aprobado en el III Congreso Institucional del Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica define y caracteriza la extensión como un diálogo respetuoso con los sectores nacionales y de retroalimentación mutua, cuyas acciones deben basarse en la interdisciplinariedad, la interinstitucionalidad, el liderazgo comunal y la excelencia académica. Con este marco y la experiencia desarrollada del 2007 al 2012 en el territorio indígena de Talamanca en el campo de la agricultura orgánica, turismo sostenible, ambiente y tecnologías, se identifican la articulación comunitaria e interinstitucional, la planificación y la gestión administrativa y estratégica como factores críticos y, además, claves para promover un impacto y, por tanto, una sostenibilidad. Este artículo pretende motivar un debate y plantea como conclusión la necesidad de formular políticas, mecanismos y estrategias que fomenten la extensión y en especial, fortalezcan las acciones del Programa de Regionalización Interuniversitario del CONARE.
