A classification of farms in four types is proposed, according to the composition of the labour force employed: exclusively family farm; land reform settlement ('assentado'); family farm with hired labour; non-family farm. Exclusively family farms are run by the owner and employ exclusively family labour; land reform settlements are also mostly family-run units; mixed family farms are run by the owner and employ predominantly family labour, complemented by hired labour; non-family farms depend mostly on hired labour, with or without the help of the owner's family. Aspects such as area, gross production value, productivity and revenues are analysed. One of the main results is that the family units are largely predominant in number (90% of the total) and employ 80% of the labour force in the agricultural sector, although they contribute with only 50% of the gross production, in virtue of lower productivity. Inequality in land distribution within the groups is extremely high, even among family farms. In Brazil, only 16% of the total inequality of land distribution is due to the inequality between the four categories of farms, while 84% originate from the inequality within groups.</text>

<text>This work presents a regridding procedure applied to the nitrogen dioxide (NO2) tropospheric column data, derived from the Copernicus Sentinel 5 Precursor Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument (S5P/TROPOMI). The regridding has been performed to provide a better comparison with punctual surface observations. It will be demonstrated that TROPOMI NO2 tropospheric column data show improved consistency with in situ surface measurements once the satellite retrievals are scaled to 1 km spatial sampling. A geostatistical technique, i.e., the ordinary kriging, has been applied to improve the spatial distribution of Level 2 TROPOMI NO2 data, which is originally sparse and uneven because of gaps introduced by clouds, to a final spatial, regular, sampling of 1 km ´ 1 km. The analysis has been performed for two study areas, one in the North and the other in the South of Italy, and for May 2018-April 2020, which also covers the period January 2020-April 2020 of COVID-19 diffusion over the Po Valley. The higher spatial sampling NO2 dataset indicated as Level 3 data, allowed us to explore spatial and seasonal data variability, obtaining better information on NO2 sources. In this respect, it will be shown that NO2 concentrations in March 2020 have likely decreased as a consequence of the lockdown because of COVID-19, although the far warmest winter season ever recorded over Europe in 2020 has favored a general NO2 decrease in comparison to the 2019 winter. Moreover, the comparison between NO2 concentrations related to weekdays and weekend days allowed us to show the strong correlation of NO2 emissions with traffic and industrial activities. To assess the quality and capability of TROPOMI NO2 observations, we have studied their relationship and correlation with in situ NO2 concentrations measured at air quality monitoring stations. We have found that the correlation increases when we pass from Level 2 to Level 3 data, showing the importance of regridding the satellite data. In particular, correlation coefficients of Level 3 data, which range between 0.50–0.90 have been found with higher correlation applying to urban, polluted locations and/or cities.</text>

This research study had the purpose of promoting favorable attitudes toward the environment in adolescents through debates of dilemmas with ecological content. The dilemmas were elaborated with basis on Kohlberg's theory of moral judgment and on Blatt and Kohlberg's group discussion technique. Sixteen students from the first year of high-school from a public school in Porto Alegre (Brazil), participated in the research study. These students were administred a ten-item questionnaire about attitudes regarding ecology, as pre-test and post-test. The participants responses were rated in a zero to two points scale, indicating the degree of maturity of attitudes regarding the environment. The degree of participation in the discussions was also analyzed. The analysis of data reveals that the technique worked only for those students considered high in participation in the discussions.</text>

<text>This paper presents the conceptualization, methodological adjustment and experimental application of the micrometeorological technique eddy covariance - EC, to measure energy, water vapor and CO2 fluxes in two coffee agroecosystems: the first under full sunlight, and the second under shade, both with equatorial Andean hillslope conditions. With a footprint and fetch calculation, the required distance from the edge of the field in the prevailing wind direction to the EC tower is three times higher under shade than full sun. The shaded agroecosystem reached maximum average carbon fixation rates of 21.26 ± 2.469 μmolCO2.m-2s-1 ( = 0.05) (61% higher than under 100% sunlight) which gives a high carbon sink capacity to the association of coffee plants with shading Pigeon peas (Cajanus cajan L). The average evapotranspiration rate was 2.33 ± 0.0102 mm.d-1 ( = 0.05) and 2.08 ± 0.00732 mm.d-1 under shade and 100% sunlight, respectively. The proportion of net radiation that reached the soil was 2% under shade and 4% under 100% sunlight. Likewise, the soil energy loss during the night was lower under shade, indicating less day-night temperature range in the latter agroecosystem. The methodological adjustment and the results of this first work using EC in Colombian coffee plantations, contribute to the development of reliable research regarding gas and energy exchanges between the atmosphere and ecosystems in conditions of the equatorial Andean hillslope.</text>

As maiores correlações foram obtidas em P x Ca, P x Mg e K x Ca e apresentaram variação com a qualidade do composto orgânico.</span></span></span></p> <p style='margin-bottom: 0cm; font-style: normal; line-height: 120%; text-decoration: none;' lang='pt-BR' align='justify'><span style='color: #000000;'><span style='font-family: Times New Roman, serif;'><span style='font-size: small;'>PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Dinâmica de nutrientes; fósforo; potássio; adubação orgânica.</span></span></span></p><!-- @page { margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } --> <p style='margin-bottom: 0cm; font-style: normal; line-height: 120%; text-decoration: none;' lang='pt-BR' align='justify'><span style='color: #000000;'><span style='font-family: Times New Roman, serif;'><span style='font-size: small;'>Indiscriminate use of fertilizers is responsible for problems as leaching and surface runoff, making more negative the energy balance in agroecosystems. The organic soil management using biological practices avoids waste and optimizes the exploration of natural resources. Two experiments, with intercropped lettuce and carrot and fertilized with organic compost (0 t ha-1, 12 t ha-1, 24 t ha-1, and 48 t ha-1), were conducted in Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, during the year 2000, to observe P, K, Ca, and Mg levels, and pH in an Ultisol. Twenty treatments were evaluated using a complete randomized block design, with four replications. The treatments were combined as plots split in time, using doses of organic compost as main plots, and five collecting times as split plots. Soil was sampled at 0-10 cm, before and during the experimental period: 15 days before installation (DBI), 0, 6, 57, and 101 days after planting (DAP), in the first experiment, and 8 DBI, 1, 6, 60, and 116 DAP, in the second. P and K reflected the compost doses, independently of compost type, while Ca and Mg were dependent on compost quality. The period of maximum availability of P, K, Ca, and Mg occurred at 6 DAP, for both experiments. Highest correlations occurred between P and Ca, P and Mg, and K and Ca, which were associated with organic compost quality.</span></span></span></p> <p style='margin-bottom: 0cm; font-style: normal; line-height: 120%; text-decoration: none;' lang='pt-BR' align='justify'><span style='color: #000000;'><span style='font-family: Times New Roman, serif;'><span style='font-size: small;'>KEY-WORDS: Nutrients dynamics; phosphorus; potassium; organic manure.</span></span></span></p></text>
