As of 2009, especially after the enactment of Law No. 11.947/2009, the managers of the National School Meal Program-PNAE must use at least 30% of the total funds received from the Federal Government, for purchasing food produced by agricultural and rural family entrepreneurs. The purchase of food must be subject to a public call for tenders, according to Law No. 8.666/1993, that must include specifications on the expected goods or services. The aim of this study was to verify PNAE’s managers’ compliance with the current laws on the subject, when preparing the public calls for tenders. The sample consisted of 201 public calls for tenders in the period between January and July 2013, electronically obtained between June and July 2013. The results indicated non-compliance in all of the surveyed areas, lacking basic information, related to the classification of foods, to the rural family entrepreneurs. It was concluded that most managers consider neither the legislation in force for the PNAE nor the issue of food safety and quality, as a result of problems in the design of the public calls for tenders; it was also concluded that, at least in this research, the participation of nutritionists was not identified, although 95% of the implementers have this professionals as head coaches.</text>

This work objective was to esteem the amount of energy employed in a complete cycle swine production and the energy balance of the system with utilization of the generated manure as biofertilizer in pasture area, by using five cycles' average data, in a commercial farm in Diamantina municipal district - MG Brazil. The energy coefficient of each involved component was quantified in the productive process of finished swine, residues treatment and Brachiaria decumbens pasture production, in the form of ration, human labor, electric power, machines and equipments, fuel and lubricants, buildings, finished swine production and Brachiaria decumbens production. The average quantity of energy to produce 1 kg of alive swine was of 53.35 MJ. Of total employed energy in the system 76.03% (1,067,106.07 MJ) refers to the inputs and 23.97% (331,400 MJ) refers to the outputs, resulting in an energy efficiency coefficient of 0.31. The energy converted in swine for abate corresponded to 55.58% (184,200 MJ) of the outputs, while the pasture of Brachiaria decumbens reached a value of 44.42% (147,200 MJ).</text>

This paper discusses the methodology of an ergonomic intervention applied on dairy family farming production units (FFPU) based in Western France. Contents include a description of the methodology, the combination of observation sessions and work analysis, as well as learning-action sessions. The Action's Chronicle and the Plan of Buildings Destination (PBD) are analyzed considering their influence on farmer's awareness about the complexity of dairy production activity. Since herd monitoring is a very complex practice and has huge impact on milk productivity, the influence of herd spatial distribution on working conditions is considered carefully. The complexity theory approach is applied in order to identify the causes, the sources of variability and the strategies adopted by dairy farmers.</text>

The purpose of this paper is to identify and characterize forestry and socio-economic systems of tidal river floodplain utilization in agroforestry production units (UPA). Forest inventory techniques, budget sheets and questionnaires were utilized. The results obtained express an average floristic composition of 2,920.7 plants/ha, with a breast-high circumference (CHC)>10cm, the highest frequency being for açaí (Euterpe oleracea) (50.63%), cocoa (Theobroma cacau) (31.02%) and virola (Virola surinamensis) (6.76%). The system comprises timber and non-timber forest exploitation, fishing, and poultry and swine raising. The annual cost of the agroforestry system (SAF) is R$1,866.25/UPA and annual gross income is R$2,959.08/UPA. It was concluded that the system is an agro-silvi-pastoral one, where poultry and swine raising utilizes floodplain shellfish as feed source; in principle, the technology used is favorable to the ecosystem conservation; however, there is a need for improving the quality of family labor. The SAF annual gross income demonstrates the economic feasibility of the UPAs at a minimum wage level; however, such units are multi-functional and have multiple incomes whose non-agricultural earnings are fundamental to families persevering in this activity and staying in the rural environment.</text>
