Objectives: To study in-depth the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of pneumonia resulting from COVID-19 and provide evidence for effective public health decisions.Methods: This was a retrospective, single-center research study. Participants were enrolled from patients presenting at the Chongqing Public Health Medical Treatment Center from Jan 24 to Feb 7, 2020, and were confirmed as having COVID-19.Results: A total of 114 COVID-19 patients (99 mild, 4 severe, 11 critical) of which 56 (56/114; 49.1%) were male, 58 (58/114; 50.9%) were female with a mean age of 46.05 years. Twenty nine (29/114; 25.44%) patients suffered from chronic diseases. Neutrophils counts in 23.68% (27/114) of patients were abnormally low and abnormally high in 21.05% (24/114). Erythrocyte sedimentation rate and the C-reactive protein levels were abnormally elevated in 76.5% (62/81) and 62.9% (66/105) of patients, respectively. Creatine kinase isoenzymes (CK-MB), pro-brain natriuretic peptide (pro-BNP) and troponin levels were above the normal range in 7.10% (8/112), 66.7% (10/15), and 100% of patients, respectively. The percentage of patients in which the partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2)/fraction of inspired O2(FiO2) ratio exceeded 200 was 60%. A total of 91 (91/114; 79.82%) patients displayed severe bilateral pneumonia, 52 (52/114; 45.61%) exhibited ground-glass opacity, and pulmonary consolidation was observed in 4 (3.51%) patients. Differences in shortness of breath, insomnia, inappetence, the procalcitonin (PCT) levels, FiO2 and PaO2/FiO2 among the three groups were statistically significant (p < 0.05). Differences between the mild and severe groups was observed in neutrophil and lymphocyte counts, CD4 expression, and levels of C-reactive protein, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase and albumin (P < 0.05). Between the mild and critical groups, differences were observed in neutrophils, platelets, and CD4 expression (P < 0.05). A difference in C-reactive protein levels between severe and critical groups was also found (P < 0.05).Conclusions: In the majority of cases no gender differences were observed and mostly the symptoms were mild. Evidence of efficient human-to-human virus transmission was found. The elderly with comorbidities were more prone to develop into severe or critical illness. Age and comorbidity may be risk factors for poor outcome.

O cultivo da amora-preta é recente no Brasil. A espécie apresenta elevada adaptabilidade, baixa exigência em frio, facilidade de manejo, rusticidade e pouca utilização de defensivos agrícolas. É uma fruta que vem despertando elevada atenção dos consumidores devido à presença de compostos fenólicos com propriedades antioxidantes. Com este trabalho, objetivou-se analisar o custo de produção do cultivo da amora-preta, em primeiro ano de produção. Para estimar a matriz de coeficientes técnicos e os custos de produção, em 2007, os preços de venda foram levantados junto a um produtor, e o restante das informações foi obtido de um experimento. De acordo com os dados e os cálculos de custos, a primeira produção da cultura foi de 3.000 kg.ha-1, com custo de implantação e condução, no primeiro ano, de R$ 8.710,63, e no segundo ano, apresentou custo de R$ 6.467,50. o custo de produção foi relativamente baixo comparado com outras frutíferas perenes cultivadas na região, evidenciando que esta atividade pode ser mais uma alternativa de renda para agricultura familiar.Growing blackberry is quite recent in Brazil. The species gets easily adapted, with low cooling demand and low use of agrochemicals. This fruit has drawn the attention of the consumers due to the presence of phenolic compounds with anti-oxidizing features. This research aimed at analyzing blackberry crops economically, on the first production year. In order to estimate the technical coefficients matrix and the producing costs, the prices were surveyed from a producer and the rest of the data were obtained from an experiment in 2007. According to the data and the calculated costs, in the first yield was 3000 kg ha-1, with cost producing and cultivation for the first year of R$ 8,710.63 and the second year had a cost of R$ 6,467.50. The producing costs were low in comparison with others perennials fruit crops in this region, showing that this activity can be an alternative for smallholders.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has emerged as an unprecedented global crisis challenging health systems. This paper aims to assess and characterise SARS-CoV-2 outbreaks in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg to identify groups at greatest risk, to establish early measures to curb transmission. We analysed all mandatory notified (i.e. laboratory-confirmed) coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreaks with more than two cases in Baden-Wuerttemberg from calendar weeks 18-49 (from 27 April to 6 December 2020). We used the following classification for settings: asylum and refugee accommodation, care homes, care facilities, day care child centres, hobby-related, hospitality, hospitals, households, other, residence halls, schools, supported housing, training schools, transportation, treatment facilities and workplace (occupational). We used R program version 3.6.3 for analysis. In our analysis, 3219 outbreaks with 22 238 individuals were included. About 48% were in household and hobby-related settings. Care homes accounted for 9.5% of outbreaks and 21.6% of cases. The median age across all settings was 43 (interquartile range (IQR) 24-63). The median age of cases in care homes was 81 (IQR 56-88). Of all reported cases in care homes, 72.1% were women. Over 30% (466/1511) of hospitalisations were among cases in care homes compared to 17.7% (268/1511) in households. Overall, 70% (500/715) of all deceased persons in outbreaks in the study period were in care homes compared to 4.2% in household settings (30/715). We observed an exponential increase in the number of notified outbreaks starting around the 41st week with N = 291 outbreaks reported in week 49. The median number of cases in outbreaks in care homes and care facilities after the 40th week was 14 (IQR 5-29) and 11 (IQR 5-20), respectively, compared to 3 (IQR 3-5) in households. We observed an increase in hospitalisations, and mortality associated with COVID-19 outbreaks in care homes after the 40th week. We found the care home demographic to be at greatest risk after the 40th week, based on the exponential increase in outbreaks, the number of cases, hospitalisations and mortality trends. Our analysis highlights the necessity of targeted, setting-specific approaches to control transmission in this vulnerable population. Regular screening of staff members and visitors' using rapid antigen point-of-care-tests could be a game-changer in curbing transmission in this setting.

Chloroquine and closely related structural analogs, employed initially for the treatment of malaria, are now gaining worldwide attention due to the rapidly spreading pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2, named coronavirus disease (COVID) of 2019 (COVID-19). Although much of this attention has a mechanistic basis, the hard efficacy data for chloroquine/hydroxychloroquine in the management of the clinical syndrome of COVID-19 have been limited thus far. This review aims to present the available in vitro and clinical data for the role of chloroquine/ hydroxychloroquine in COVID-19 and attempts to put them into perspective, especially in relation to the different risks/benefits particular to each patient who may require treatment.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) which causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a highly contagious virus. The closed environment of the operation room (OR) with aerosol generating airway management procedures increases the risk of transmission of infection among the anaesthesiologists and other OR personnel. Wearing complete, fluid impermeable personal protective equipment (PPE) for airway related procedures is recommended. Team preparation, clear methods of communication and appropriate donning and doffing of PPEs are essential to prevent spread of the infection. Optimal pre oxygenation, rapid sequence induction and video laryngoscope aided tracheal intubation (TI) are recommended. Supraglottic airways (SGA) and surgical cricothyroidotomy should be preferred for airway rescue. High flow nasal oxygen, face mask ventilation, nebulisation, small bore cannula cricothyroidotomy with jet ventilation should be avoided. Tracheal extubation should be conducted with the same levels of precaution as TI. The All India Difficult Airway Association (AIDAA) aims to provide consensus guidelines for safe airway management in the OR, while attempting to prevent transmission of infection to the OR personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

En el presente documento se busca hacer una revisión de algunos referentes en torno a los procesos de degradación de los humedales altoandinos, exponer las tendencias de los análisis de la vulnerabilidad y resaltar el reto actual de desarrollar los análisis a través de una visión que integre lo social y lo biofísico, a partir de un enfoque sistémico de tan importantes sistemas naturales, con la finalidad de introducir la visión de los sistemas socio-ecológicos o socio-ecosistemas como una alternativa ya conocida, pero que debe ser desarrollada y apropiada para su implantación y comprensión por las comunidades humanas

El presente artículo de revisión está enmarcado en el desarrollo de una tesis doctoral en Ciencias Ambientales. Analiza los procesos tradicionales de gestión y planificación que han tenido un enfoque disciplinar para enfrentar problemáticas ambientales como el cambio climático en la alta montaña andina cuyo propósito se ha centrado en el manejo o mitigación de los impactos ambientales generados por las actividades antrópicas. Sin embargo, el deterioro ecológico aumenta debido a que las bases conceptuales en las que se fundamentan las herramientas de gestión por lo general son descontextualizadas, asumiendo que las relaciones socio ecológicas se pueden desagregar para ser estudiadas y que los fenómenos de la naturaleza son predecibles y controlables. Considerando lo anterior, se propone la incorporación de teorías complementarias como los socio-ecosistemas, la resiliencia, la transformabilidad, la adaptación y la vulnerabilidad.

Este trabajo presenta y fundamenta una secuencia didáctica para enseñar cambio climático a estudiantes del colegio secundario. Se abordaron algunas de las múltiples dimensiones que presenta esta problemática pensada desde una perspectiva compleja: las dimensiones climatológica, ambiental, política, económica y activista. Desde esta perspectiva, se analizaron diferentes esca-las, entretejiendo las distintas dimensiones mencionadas con procesos y proyecciones a nivel global y local. Finalmente, se orientaron las últimas actividades como un llamado a la acción. Esta perspectiva cobra aún más relevancia debido a la temática seleccionada, dadas las sombrías proyecciones sobre el futuro del planeta y la crisis ambiental que vivimos y, a su vez, conside-rando el rol protagónico de les jóvenes en el activismo ambiental y específicamente vinculado al cambio climático.
