In this work an SYBR Green-real time PCR assay was developed for diagnosing infection with SARS-related coronaviruses from bat guano and was applied as screening tool in a survey carried out on 45 greater horseshoe bats (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum) sampled in Italy in 2009. The assay showed high sensitivity and reproducibility. Its application on bats screening resulted in a prevalence of 42%. This method could be suitable as screening tool in epidemiological surveys about the presence of bat-SARS-like CoVs, consequently to obtain a more realistic scenario of the viral prevalence in the population. The highest number of MERS-CoV cases are from Saudi-Arabia, the major worldwide hotspot for this disease. In the absence of neither effective treatment nor a ready-to-use vaccine and with yet an incomplete understanding of its epidemiological cycle, prevention and containment measures can be derived from mathematical models of disease epidemiology. We constructed 2-strain models to predict past outbreaks in the interval 2012-2016 and derive key epidemiological information for Macca, Madina and Riyadh. We approached variability in infection through three different disease incidence functions capturing social behavior in response to an epidemic (e.g. Bilinear, BL; Non-monotone, NM; and Saturated, SAT models). The best model combination successfully anticipated the total number of MERS-CoV clinical cases for the 2015-2016 season and accurately predicted both the number of cases at the peak of seasonal incidence and the overall shape of the epidemic cycle. The evolution in the basic reproduction number (R0) warns that MERS-CoV may easily take an epidemic form. The best model correctly captures this feature, indicating a high epidemic risk (1≤R0≤2,5) in Riyadh and Macca and confirming the alleged co-circulation of more than one strain. Accurate predictions of the future MERS-CoV peak week, as well as the number of cases at the peak are now possible. These results indicate public health agencies should be aware that measures for strict containment are urgently needed before new epidemics take off in the region. A rigor, o rural é visto como possibilidade e tem com isso o seu papel redefinido na sociedade moderna. Dizendo de outra maneira, esta nova perspectiva procura enfatizar as especificidades da produção material e humana no rural e, sobretudo, como que se dão as relações com urbano. A forma como os seres humanos percebem e se relacionam com esses espaços podem ser peças fundamentais para a conservação, ampliação e melhorias nestes locais. Objetivou-se neste artigo identificar a relação e percepção da população da Vila Jaguaribe, Osasco, SP, sobre as áreas verdes urbanas, sendo elas restritas a quintais, praças e parques. Para isso, foram realizadas entrevistas por meio de um questionado estruturado, com os moradores da Vila Jaguaribe. Este bairro misto (residencial e comercial) dispõem de 3 praças e 2 parques. Os dados foram compilados, classificados e analisados pelos softwares SPSS 25 e Iramuteq 0.7 alpha 2. Os resultados indicam a estreita relação dos entrevistados com os quintais residenciais, sendo que 98% das residências entrevistadas possuí ao menos uma planta cultivada, sendo as mesmas utilizadas para usos ornamentais (87,54%), alimentícios (5,61%), medicinais (5,26%) e mágicas (1,58%). Em relação as praças e parques, obtiveram declarações similares, como sendo um espaço de lazer, recreação e práticas esportivas, mas que carece principalmente de segurança. Os entrevistados solicitaram mais atividades culturais e segurança nos espaços.
