Assim, este estudo tem como objetivo geral verificar o papel da tecnologia social PAIS para a Associação de Produtores em Agroecologia (APAOrgânico) na promoção do desenvolvimento rural no semiárido. A metodologia escolhida foi um estudo de caso, de caráter exploratório, configurada como qualitativa e quantitativa (por meio da aplicação de formulários semiestruturados com onze agricultores, levantamento e sistematização de dados secundários sobre a temática abordada e também relatos dos agricultores entrevistados). De forma geral, em Pão de Açúcar-AL 730 pessoas foram atendidas com tecnologias sociais (água para beber). Destaca-se, então, que o fortalecimento dos agricultores por meio da APAOrgânico tem sido importante no cenário do desenvolvimento rural sustentável, como também para convivência com o semiárido. A tecnologia PAIS foi responsável por possibilitar acesso às tecnologias que facilitaram adaptação para que a produção agroecológica fosse possível, como a produção em mandalas. Sem a tecnologia PAIS, muitos agricultores não disporiam de meios para produzir, pois não teriam ferramentas para captar a água da chuva, bem como para captar água do rio para realizar irrigação. Com relação à diferença dos produtos agroecológicos para o convencional, 36,36% dos agricultores relataram que a qualidade é a principal diferença, seguida de 27,27% que apontaram preço e a qualidade e 27,27% responderam outros. Isso é percebido porque 54,55% dos entrevistados já utilizaram algum tipo de agrotóxico, ao passo que 45,45% nunca utilizaram. From 2004, the Chinese National Influenza Center (CNIC) and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USCDC) initiated Cooperative Agreements to build capacity in influenza surveillance in China. From 2004 to 2014, CNIC and USCDC collaborated on the following activities: 1) developing human technical expertise in virology and epidemiology in China; 2) developing a comprehensive influenza surveillance system by enhancing influenza-like illness (ILI) reporting and virological characterization; 3) strengthening analysis, utilization and dissemination of surveillance data; and 4) improving early response to influenza viruses with pandemic potential. Since 2004, CNIC expanded its national influenza surveillance and response system which, as of 2014, included 408 laboratories and 554 sentinel hospitals. With support from USCDC, more than 2500 public health staff from China received virology and epidemiology training, enabling > 98% network laboratories to establish virus isolation and/or nucleic acid detection techniques. CNIC established viral drug resistance surveillance and platforms for gene sequencing, reverse genetics, serologic detection, and vaccine strains development. CNIC also built a bioinformatics platform to strengthen data analysis and utilization, publishing weekly on-line influenza surveillance reports in English and Chinese. The surveillance system collects 200,000–400,000 specimens and tests more than 20,000 influenza viruses annually, which provides valuable information for World Health Organization (WHO) influenza vaccine strain recommendations. In 2010, CNIC became the sixth WHO Collaborating Centre for Influenza. CNIC has strengthened virus and data sharing, and has provided training and reagents for other countries to improve global capacity for influenza control and prevention. Ecologia.     Abstract: This work aims at presenting the range and the limits of the dependence theory, fi rst outlined in 1970, as a means of analyzing the economic reality of the Latin American continent. The objective of the following article is to demonstrate that the dependence theory is closely related to the ideas behind the CEPAL’s development theory. In this sense, the range of the dependence theory, when compared to the development theory, is bound to the idea that the underdevelopment state of the Latin American continent is linked to the economic and political worlds. On the other hand, the limits of the dependence theory are based on the fact that it hasn’t accomplished its initial proposal, since its analysis of the Latin American reality was restricted to economical aspects. This work also assumes that the modern crisis occurs in all aspects of western living, as a result of economic rationality and of a one-dimensional development, which affects directly the Latin America region. Therefore, both the understanding of the reality that surrounds us and of its transformation require us to rethink the homogenization of the production and consumption standards present in the Latin American society, which are based on the western model of the central countries.
