Sus estrategias están basadas en el manejo de sus escasos recursos, el aprovechamiento de su mano de obra y su experiencia. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar el proceso de producción y los mecanismos de comercialización de chía que realizan familias campesinas de los municipios de Tochimilco y Atzitzihuacán, Puebla, México. Para obtener la información se aplicó una encuesta a 101 productores de chía en el ciclo PV-2013 y se entrevistó a 10 informantes clave de los mercados de Puebla y Atlixco. Los resultados muestran que son pequeños productores, con una edad promedio de 53 años y escolaridad promedio de primaria. Para realizar agricultura emplean técnicas tradicionales basadas en conocimientos, experiencias y saberes campesinos que han sido heredados por generaciones. Producen cultivos básicos, principalmente de autoconsumo y algunos para venta. Su unidad de explotación familiar es en promedio de 3.3 ha, dicha superficie está distribuida en más de dos predios. Para el proceso productivo de la chía utilizan sistemas y herramientas tradicionales, tan sólo 8% cuenta con tractor y 90% utiliza yunta en las diferentes labores culturales típicas de una agricultura tradicional. Los mecanismos de comercialización son los tradicionales, realizada en mercados locales y regionales. Aun cuando los precios han disminuido considerablemente, los productores siguen sembrando chía con rentabilidad mayor a la de otros cultivos, como maíz y frijol, mismos que se producen con un alto significado social. Se concluye que la chía se ha venido convirtiendo en una fuente importante de ingresos y con posibilidades de aporte al desarrollo local para los pequeños productores, a pesar de la situación inestable de precios con tendencias a la baja. Buscando entender los impactos específicos que tienen las políticas de conversión productiva sobre los modos de vida campesinos, este artículo aborda la experiencia de comunidades mayas peninsulares que transitaron desde la producción de miel convencional a la producción orgánica certificada y focaliza en los aspectos subjetivos involucrados de dicha transición y en sus transformaciones desde la perspectiva de los apicultores mayas. Método: Seleccionamos el caso de una cooperativa en la península de Yucatán que recibió financiamiento internacional para transformar sus procesos apícolas y a la larga no continuó con la producción de miel orgánica, caso que muestra una situación generalizada en la región. La metodología usada fue cualitativa y se basó en la teoría fundamentada y el análisis del discurso de los apicultores e incluyó la realización de entrevistas semi-estructuradas y a profundidad. Resultados: Los constantes cursos de capacitación dirigidos a los apicultores orientados a la producción orgánica y a la conservación ambiental utilizan dispositivos para convertir al campesino maya en un homo economicus. Asimismo, la producción orgánica exige lineamientos internacionales que se imponen a partir de requisitos de certificación y no permiten la innovación tecnológica desde las comunidades. Para los apicultores líderes, las abejas han pasado de ser una fuente de ahorro a representar su principal fuente de ingresos. Sin embargo, pese a las distintas transformaciones, encontramos que el perfil del maya campesino-apicultor corresponde más a un homo socio-economicus, por lo cual concluimos que la conversión hacia un homo economicus no ha logrado instituirse. Conclusión: Para que el neoliberalismo tenga éxito es necesario que las motivaciones y actitudes de los apicultores ligados más a una visión productiva tradicional se transformen a otra de intensificación convencional de los apiarios. Los resultados cuestionan que los procesos de certificación orgánica propuestos por las políticas nacionales e internacionales sean una estrategia adecuada para mejorar la calidad de vida de los campesinos e incentivar la conservación de las selvas, ya que ella limita la innovación que los apicultores generan en su actividad. Además, la certificación actúa como un proceso de subordinación a los modelos occidentales de producción ya que no surge desde los modelos productivos de las comunidades sino que es impuesto y demanda procesos de subjetivación de los campesinos que no fortalecen su cultura y autonomía económica, social y política. The antigen has been produced under current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs) and is now in clinical testing. Here, we report on process development and scale-up optimization for upstream fermentation and downstream purification of the antigen. This includes production at the 1-L and 5-L scales in the yeast, Pichia pastoris, and the comparison of three different chromatographic purification methods. This culminated in the selection of a process to produce RBD219-N1C1 with a yield of >400 mg per liter of fermentation with >92% purity and >39% target product recovery after purification. In addition, we show the results from analytical studies, including SEC-HPLC, DLS, and an ACE2 receptor binding assay that were performed to characterize the purified proteins to select the best purification process. Finally, we propose an optimized upstream fermentation and downstream purification process that generates quality RBD219-N1C1 protein antigen and is fully scalable at a low cost. The study has been focused in the province of Almeria, especially in the locality of Cuevas de Almanzora, that does not count with any specific regulation on caves and house-caves and per the estimates of the Council, it counts with approximately 800 units, very few rehabilitated and many pending rehabilitation and legalization as housing. Resumen Entre las provincias de Almería y Granada existen unas 25.000 cuevas y casas - cueva, muchas de ellas por rehabilitar según estimaciones de los ayuntamientos, formando parte de la arquitectura vernácula de la comarca. Estas construcciones, algunas de ellas milenarias, están siendo referentes para nuevos proyectos y modelos arquitectónicos, como consecuencia del cambio climático y de las distintas crisis energéticas de estos últimos años. A las casas - cuevas, como a cualquier otra edificación, se les exige para su adecuación funcional o rehabilitación que cumplan los requisitos básicos establecidos por la LOE, Ley de Ordenación de la Edificación, para poder ser considerada vivienda. La realización de un estudio del cumplimiento de todos los requisitos para una casa - cueva, sería una tarea ardua, dada la diversidad y complejidad de estas construcciones, por lo que este estudio solo trata de analizar el proceso necesario para su legalización desde el punto de vista urbanístico como vivienda. El estudio se ha centrado en la provincia de Almería, concretamente en la localidad de Cuevas del Almanzora, que no cuenta con ninguna regulación específica sobre cuevas ni casas-cueva, y que, según estimaciones del ayuntamiento cuenta con aproximadamente 800 unidades, muy pocas rehabilitadas y muchas pendientes de rehabilitación y de legalización como vivienda. Nanostructured TiO2 is a promising candidate for the passive reduction of transmission when applied to handles, push-plates and switches in hospitals. Here we report control of the nanostructure dimension of the mille-feuille crystal plates in anatase columnar crystals as a function of the coating thickness. This nanoplate thickness is key to achieving the large aspect ratio of surface area to migration path length. TiO2 solid coatings were prepared by pulsed-pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (pp-MOCVD) under the same deposition temperature and mass flux, with thickness ranging from 1.3–16 μm, by varying the number of precursor pulses. SEM and STEM were used to measure the mille-feuille plate width which is believed to be a key functional nano-dimension for photocatalytic activity. Competitive growth produces a larger columnar crystal diameter with thickness. The question is if the nano-dimension also increases with columnar crystal size. We report that the nano-dimension increases with the film thickness, ranging from 17–42 nm. The results of this study can be used to design a coating which has co-optimized thickness for durability and nano-dimension for enhanced photocatalytic properties.
