Se determinó el uso de energía de tres sistemas de labranza (L1 convencional, L2 vertical y L3 cero) integrando mejoradores orgánicos, para establecer que manejo tiene un efecto en el corto plazo (dos años) en una menor demanda de energía para las labores. Se realizaron mediciones en el ciclo de cultivo 2012 en un experimento iniciado en 2010 bajo arreglo experimental de parcelas divididas con tres sistemas de labranza como parcelas principales, las subparcelas fueron tres mejoradores de suelo (algas, micorrizas y composta) y una testigo sin mejorador, para un total de 12 unidades experimentales repetidas tres veces. Se midió la fuerza requerida en Newton (N) para las labores de cada sistema e implementos con un dinamómetro integrado al levante hidráulico del tractor. Se calculó la energía en Mega Joules (MJ) necesaria para cada área y sistema de laboreo. Los resultados muestran diferencias significativas en las energías medidas entre los sistemas de labranza pero no entre los tratamientos con mejoradores orgánicos. En comparación con L1 y L2, L3 representa una disminución de uso de energía de 87% y 84,5% respectivamente. Estadísticamente no existe diferencia entre la cantidad de energía gastada por la labranza convencional y la labranza vertical sin embargo con esta última se disminuye en 15,6% el uso de energía en relación a la primera. En el corto plazo, la única posibilidad de disminuir la demanda de energía en los sistemas de producción en la zona semiárida es reducir las labores utilizando sistemas de labranza de conservación.

Para facilitar la identificación de vulnerabilidades y la clasificación de entidades de producción bovina, así como contribuir al discernimiento de las medidas de mitigación que se deberán adoptar, se diseñó un sistema al que se le denominó PRAGACC, que consta de dos matrices o subsistemas: (I) recursos naturales y (II) otros recursos. Cada matriz está compuesta por las siguientes variables: microclima (A), suelo (B), hidrología (C), flora y vegetación (D) y animales en producción (E), dentro del subsistema I, y economía (E), producción (G) y recursos humanos (H), en el II; estas, a su vez, se determinan de acuerdo con 26 y 28 componentes para I y II, respectivamente. Los criterios para evaluar cada variable, se obtuvieron de una encuesta de 34 preguntas, que se aplicó a un productor de la entidad. Las interrogantes poseen un valor prefijado por respuesta, que aporta a las componentes con las que se vincula y de estas a las variables. Las entidades se clasifican por subsistema, según el número de variables que se consideran afectadas y esta clasificación determina las medidas que se deberán adoptar, así como la prioridad en su aplicación.

Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is one of the most important oilseed crops of the world. The fatty acid composition plays an important role in oil quality. Experiments were performed to examine the variation in oil fatty acids of three normal oleic peanut market types (Virginia, Valencia, and Spanish) in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Variations of botanical variety, year and their interaction were highly significant for oil content and all 13 fatty acids studied. Oil content in different peanut market types exhibited significant differences. The maximum oil content (51.993%) was found in Virginia (NC-7), while Valencia (New Mexico Valencia A) accumulated the minimum oil content (47.197%). Virginia had also the highest oleic acid percentage. Higher temperatures during seed development in 2010 resulted in greater oleic contents than 2008 and 2009 while lower temperatures post anthesis in 2009 caused higher linoleic acid. It was observed different effects of years in oil fatty acid composition according to peanut types. The highest percentages of linoleic acid for Virginia, Valencia, and Spanish were observed in 2010, 2008, and 2009, respectively. The highest negative correlation was noted for oleic and linoleic acids (r: -0.985). Oleic acid was also correlated negatively with arachidic and behenic acids.El maní (Arachis hypogaea L.) es uno de los cultivos oleaginosos más importantes del mundo. La composición de los ácidos grasos juega un rol importante en la calidad del aceite. Los experimentos se llevaron a cabo en los anos 2008, 2009, y 2010, para determinar la variación en la composición de ácidos grasos de tres clases comerciales de maní (Virginia, Valencia y Spanish) con contenido normal de ácido oleico. La variación entre variedades botánicas, ano, y su interacción fueron altamente significativas para el contenido de aceite y los 13 ácidos grasos estudiados. El contenido de aceite en las diferentes clases comerciales exhibió marcadas diferencias. El máximo contenido de aceite (51.993%) se obtuvo en la clase Virginia (NC-7), mientras que en la clase Valencia (New México Valencia A) se obtuvo el menor contenido de aceite (47.197%). La clase Virginia también obtuvo el valor más alto de ácido oleico. Temperaturas más altas durante el desarrollo de la semilla en el 2010 resultaron en contenidos más altos de ácido oleico que en el 2008 y el 2009, mientras que temperaturas más bajas post antesis en el 2009 condujeron a un contenido más alto de ácido linoleico. El efecto del ano en la composición de los ácidos grasos fue distinto dependiendo de la clase comercial de maní. El contenido más alto de ácido linoleico para las clases Virginia, Valencia y Spanish se observó en el 2010, 2008, y 2009, respectivamente. La correlación negativa menor se observó entre el contenido de los ácidos oleico y linoleico (r: -0.985). El ácido oleico también se correlacionó negativamente con los ácidos araquídico y behénico.

Este estudio investiga la incertidumbre asociada con el modelo de circulación general (MCG) al escenario de emisión y a la variabilidad natural del clima en la estimación del impacto del cambio climático en dos cuencas mexicanas. Las cuencas seleccionadas tienen diferentes climas y regímenes hidrológicos. Las simulaciones climáticas de tres MCG bajo tres escenarios de emisión (B1, A1B y A2) se usan para alimentar el modelo hidrológico SWAT, de tipo físico y semidistribuido. Las simulaciones cubren 30 años en un periodo de referencia (1971-2000) y dos periodos de 20 años en el futuro (2046-2065 y 2081-2100). Los resultados muestran que los caudales altos son más propensos a ser influenciados por la incertidumbre asociada con el MCG; además, los indicadores hidrológicos tienen una sensibilidad menor al escenario de emisión para las cuencas de estudio. Por último, la incertidumbre vinculada con la variabilidad natural no debe pasarse por alto en los estudios de cambio climático, ya que hasta cierto punto y para caudales altos puede ser tan crítica como la incertidumbre ligada con MCG y el escenario de emisión.

Different hypotheses related to the regional-scale configuration of the Yucatan Continental Shelf (YCS) between the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) and the Caribbean Sea have been proposed. Hypotheses regarding its regional boundaries include: (i) an ecoregional boundary at Catoche Cape, dividing the Western Caribbean and the Southern GoM ecoregions; and (ii) a boundary within the Southern GoM ecoregion at 89°W, separating the West and Mid-Yucatan areas. We tested the hypothesis of no variation in benthic macrofaunal assemblages between regions delimited by the former boundaries using the species and functional traits of soft-bottom macrofauna. We considered that the depth and temporal environmental dynamics might interact with regional variations, generating complex benthic community patterns. The data were collected over five years (2010–2012, 2015–2016) at 86 stations (N = 1, 017 samples, 10–270 m depth), comprising 1,327 species with 45 combinations of functional traits. The variation in species composition and functional trait assemblages were both consistent with the occurrence of three separate regions in the Yucatan Peninsula (West Yucatan, Mid-Yucatan and Western Caribbean). This regional configuration was consistent with changes in assemblage structure and depth zonation as well as temporal variation. Along with spatial and temporal variation, diversity diminished with depth and different regions exhibited contrasting patterns in this regard. Our results suggest that the spatial and temporal variation of soft-bottom macrofauna at YCS demonstrate the complex organization of a carbonate shelf encompassing different regions, which may represent transitional regions between the Caribbean and the GoM.

En el presente trabajo se reportan las especies de anfípodos bentónicos de los subórdenes Amphilochidea y Senticaudata de la Plataforma Continental Centro Norte del Perú (03°24'S - 79°30'W a 09°00'S - 81°30'W) colectadas durante la estación de otoño. A partir de 136 puntos de muestreo, distribuidas en entre 22 y 372 m, se determinaron 28 taxa de anfípodos, pertenecientes a 15 familias; 14 especies consideradas como nuevos registros para el mar peruano. La familia Ampeliscidae fue la más diversa, con 11 especies. Se incluye información taxonómica descriptiva y distribución geográfica referenciada.

El artículo presenta los resultados de un estudio de carácter exploratorio y descriptivo que recoge los hallazgos de las representaciones sociales que estudiantes de tres áreas de formación académica: científico-matemática, biológica y social-educativa de la Universidad de Concepción (Chile), construyen sobre lo ambiental y el cambio climático durante sus años de formación. Mediante un cuestionario se abordaron las percepciones (actitudes, opiniones, conocimientos y conductas) de alumnos en base a las categorías de Moscovici (1984) respecto al nivel de información, las actitudes más relevantes y el campo de representación que tienen sobre este paradigma. Los hallazgos preliminares permiten afirmar que las áreas profesionales no influyen en las representaciones sociales de los jóvenes en estudio, que sus prácticas están más influenciadas por los medios de comunicación, antes que por la formación académica en sí misma, y que la Universidad de Concepción -como institución- no prescribe prácticas en los estudiantes sobre temas ambientales y cambio climático, sino más bien éstas están sujetas al conocimiento de sentido común. Lo anterior refuerza la necesidad y el papel que la universidad debe jugar en la formación académica y científica en dichas materias.

La malaria de altura es un fenómeno de relativa reciente descripción, y mas aun, hace poco es que ha cobrado; importancia, puesto que se ha visto relacionado con una serie de variaciones climáticas, como lo son los cambios en; las precipitaciones, temperatura, presión atmósferica, fenómenos particulares como El Niño o La Niña (en zonas con; una altura >1500 m.s.n.m. Su aparición se ha visto asociada a zonas con transmisión inestable o dónde actualmente; no hay transmisión, pero ha ocurrido previamente, lo que representa condiciones propicias previas para el desarrollo; de la enfermedad. Adicionalmente a los cambios climáticos, se asocian a este fenómeno reservorios vegetales (como; las bromeliáceas) y especies particulares del vector (Anopheles del subgénero Kerteszia), así como múltiples; factores sociales como la movilidad poblacional, cambios en los patrones de comportamiento humano y en particular; laboral. El fenómeno de la malaria altura implica el reto de conocer mejor el impacto e interrelación entre las; variaciones climáticas y el fenómeno salud-enfermedad, en particular en enfermedades metaxénicas

Los albores del siglo XX estuvieron marcados por el surgimiento de agentes infecciosos y el resurgimiento de otros considerados controlados, eventos ambos posiblemente conectados con alteraciones ecológicas que condujeron al reconocimiento de un notorio cambio climático, del cual apenas comenzamos a ver los efectos. Entre todas las variedades de agentes infecciosos considerados nuevos, los virus sobresalen en número no sólo por su capacidad de proliferación, sino también por su versatilidad genética, lo que los hace más diestros para evolucionar y adaptarse a nuevas circunstancias. Uno de los agentes virales más ubicuos y populares de las Américas en los últimos tiempos, son los transmitidos por roedores silvestres y urbanos, y entre estos, están los hantavirus causantes de un conocido síndrome pulmonar humano. Este género viral, del cual se han descubierto cerca de 18 agentes sólo en Suramérica en las últimas dos décadas, pertenece a la familia Bunyaviridae; aunque muchos de sus representantes sólo causan infecciones persistentes en roedores silvestres (miembros de la subfamilia Sigmodontinae) y subclínicas en el hombre, otros pueden causar una letalidad humana del 60 %. El objetivo de este documento fue revisar el estado actual del conocimiento de algunos aspectos generales de los hantavirus y las enfermedades que producen en el mundo, mencionando de paso los hallazgos más recientes en nuestro país. Al final se discuten algunas de las muchas dudas aún presentes respecto a la importancia clínica y los impactos que estos agentes puedan ocasionar sobre la salud pública humana en Colombia.
