No decorrer do estudo, apresentou-se o comportamento da produção de leite em âmbito nacional, estadual e regional, apontando as principais características da atividade leiteira na Região Oeste Catarinense. Foi realizado um estudo de caso na localidade da Linha Tormem, interior do município de Chapecó-SC, em que foram realizadas entrevistas com os produtores de leite. Utilizou-se o conceito de Brose (1999), que define desenvolvimento regional a partir do acesso que os indivíduos têm a serviços de saúde, educação e especialização profissional, moradia digna, transporte, lazer e outros. Entre outros resultados obtidos, conclui-se que a atividade leiteira, na Linha Tormem, tem relevância socioeconômica e promove o desenvolvimento.
