A coleta de dados ocorreu em 2010 nos municípios onde a Ecosol possui unidades de atendimento: Araponga, Tombos, Espera Feliz, Divino e Simonésia, por meio de observação participante, análise documental e aplicação de entrevistas semiestruturadas. Os principais atores e fatores identificados como alicerces sociopolíticos dessas cooperativas foram: mística e religiosidade, introduzida por setores da Igreja Católica, que interferiu diretamente nas representações sociais e manifestações simbólicas que orientaram as intervenções para uma mudança da realidade; a política, marcada pelo movimento sindical e partidário (Partido dos Trabalhadores); e a técnica e estilo de vida, consolidados a partir da adoção de um projeto de agricultura sustentável e desenvolvimento alternativo introduzida por uma ONG.
