Entre elas, destaca-se o Programa de Aquisição de Alimentos (PAA), voltado para a comercialização institucional de alimentos produzidos por agricultores familiares, resultando em aumento da renda dos beneficiários, redução da fome, garantia de comercialização, dinamização do mercado local, valorização da cultura alimentar e redução da migração rural-urbana. Neste trabalho são analisados os principais resultados da implementação do PAA no Vale do Ribeira paulista, de 2010 a 2016, em termos da renda obtida, habitação, produção, segurança alimentar, grau de organização política e permanência dos agricultores no campo, além das dificuldades operacionais. Essa política assumiu importância estratégica para mitigar as condições de vulnerabilidade socioeconômica nessa região, tendo em vista os benefícios proporcionados aos agricultores familiares em várias dimensões.
