A seleção baseou se no fato das espécies de Eucalyptus sp e Pinus sp constituir uma importante base florestal. Foram entrevistados 131 silvicultores com o objetivo de identificar e descrever a atividade florestal. Analisou se o sistema de produção e suas dimensões técnicas, econômicas e sociais. Os resultados demonstraram que a cobertura florestal contribui com uma expressiva ocupação da área e a produção apresenta uma tendência para o uso múltiplo da madeira e inclusão da agricultura familiar no processo produtivo da madeira. Observousetambém uma adoção tecnológica pelos silvicultores, com uma conscientização de estabelecer um manejo florestal adequado para que se possa condicionar qualidade à produção e ao interesse do consumidor. Verificou se, ainda, uma crescente inserção da produção no mercado regional por meio da evolução positiva dos preços e pela facilidade de comercialização.The forest activity was analyzed in the counties of Telêmaco Borba, Ortigueira, Reserva, Imbaú and Tibagi, state of Paraná. The selection was based in the plantation of the species of Eucalyptus sp and Pinus sp which constitute an important forest base. 131 silviculturists were interviewed to identify and describe the forest activity. The production system and its technical, economic and social dimensions were analyzed. Results showed that the forest covering occupies an expressive portion of the area, and the production presents a current tendency towards the purpose of the multiple use of the wood and the inclusion of the familiar agriculture in the productive process of wood. It was also observed the silviculturists’ use of technology, with an awareness of establishing an adequate forest management for the sake of production quality and the consumer’s interest. Moreover, an increasing insertion of the production in the regional market was noticed, particularly through a positive evolution of prices and the market acceptance.
