En este sentido, el paradigma ambiental exige ver al desarrollo como algo intrínseco a la propia esencia del medio ambiente. Esa visión conduce a actuar sobre cualquier esfera desde un enfoque en el que la naturaleza y el medio ambiente, se consideran como factores estratégicos del desarrollo (Anon, 2005). De hecho, la propuesta del `desarrollo sostenible', como su mismo nombre sugiere, es un intento de afrontar, de manera integrada, los desafíos de nuestra humanidad. La emergencia y el fortalecimiento de los esfuerzos hacia el desarrollo refuerzan el significado e importancia del sector agropecuario, la familia rural, su impacto en la seguridad alimentaria y su contribución a la conservación de la agrobiodiversidad y al manejo sostenible de los recursos naturales (Cruz, 2003). La búsqueda del desarrollo agrario en Cuba fue un proceso que tuvo sus inicios desde el mismo triunfo revolucionario, aunque los esquemas de desarrollo dejaban olvidada la naturaleza, el hombre, sus necesidades y su historia. La nueva visión holística comienza, por tanto, a influir todas las reflexiones en torno a las políticas y estrategias de desarrollo en nuestro país. La comprensión de este enfoque conduce a la interpretación de la compleja realidad y el reconocimiento del desarrollo como un proceso permeado de relaciones de interdependencia y complementariedad, en los que el respeto a la naturaleza, el conocimiento de sus límites, su historia y la participación en la construcción del futuro pasan a ser los elementos de mayor relevancia en busca de un legítimo proceso de desarrollo. El presente artículo trata acerca del desarrollo sostenible y sus relaciones con la naturalezaThe concept of development constructed in the Western world was based on the mechanicist and rationalist paradigm, from a vision of dominance over nature, and let aside the protection of the environment. In this sense, the environmental paradigm demands to see development as something intrinsic to the essence of the environment. This vision leads to act over any field from an approach in which nature and the environment are considered strategic factors of development (Anon, 2005). In fact, the proposal of &#8216;sustainable development&#8217;, as the name itself suggests, is an attempt to face, integrally, the challenges of our mankind. The emergence and strengthening of the efforts towards development enhance the meaning and importance of the livestock production sector, the rural family, its impact on food security and its contribution to the conservation of agricultural biodiversity and the sustainable management of natural resources (Cruz, 2003). The search of agricultural development in Cuba was a process that began since the triumph of the Revolution, although the development schemes neglected nature, man, their needs and history. The new holistic vision begins, thus, to influence all the reflections regarding the policies and strategies of development in our country. The understanding of this approach leads to the interpretation of the complex reality and the recognition of development as a process permeated by relationships of interdependence and complementarity, in which the respect towards nature, the knowledge of its limits, its history and the participation in the construction of the future become the most relevant elements in search of an actual development process. This work deals with sustainable development and its relationships with nature.
