Con lo que respecta a la variabilidad climática se establece su definición, la diferencia existente entre variabilidad y cambio climático, sus causas y consecuencias. Finalmente, teniendo en cuenta toda la información analizada, y con la ayuda de nuevos autores se establece como las caracterí­sticas de los caudales ecológicos (magnitud, duración, frecuencia, variabilidad, sincronización y curvas de distribución) pueden verse afectados por la variabilidad climática.
