A list of fishes collected in the middle basin of Atrato river in northwestern Colombia with information on species distribution in lentic and lotic environments is provided. Ninety-three species were found, belonging to 58 genera of 26 families in eight orders. A great diversity of fish species in small streams is stressed and the ecological importance of the latter is pointed.</text>
