En la región sur de la provincia de Córdoba estos humedales brindan diferentes servicios ecológicos muchos de los cuales están vinculados a la fauna de peces. Sin embargo, hay poca base bibliográfica en este sentido. En marzo de 2010, se evaluó la calidad del agua y la estructura de la ictiofauna de la laguna Onagoity (34 ° 46’25 “S, 63 ° 38’37” W, 190 ha). El agua era oligohalina (2,30 mg/L), muy dura (314 ppm de CaCO3) y sulfato-cloruro de sodio. La relación Ca + Mg / Na + K fue de 0.23.
