Metodología: Se calculó y analizó la magnitud de la vulnerabilidad alimentaria con base a tres componentes de vulnerabilidad expresados en índices: exposición, sensibilidad y capacidad adaptativa. El índice de capacidad adaptativa estuvo representado por capitales: humano, financiero, físico, social y natural. Los indicadores utilizados se relacionaron con los elementos de seguridad alimentaria; disponibilidad, acceso, estabilidad y utilización de los alimentos. Resultados: Se identifica al 20.72 % de la población con índice de vulnerabilidad alimentaria alto o muy alto.Limitaciones: La información estadística sobre las personas y familias beneficiadas por los programas de apoyo se halló dispersa. Conclusiones: Mediante la aplicación de este enfoque, se identificó que el capital financiero, el cual considera transferencias mediante programas de apoyo derivadas de políticas sociales, reduce la vulnerabilidad alimentaria en los municipios bajo estudio.
