Clethra presenta tres especies: una en Cuba y dos en Jamaica; Purdiaea presenta 12 especies, todas cubanas. En el presente trabajo se ofrece la descripcion de la familia, los géneros y claves intragenéricas e infragenéricas, así como comentarios sobre la distribución y la ecología de las especies. Clethra comprises three species: one in Cuba and, two in Jamaica; Purdiaea has 12 species, all of them are endemic to Cuba. It is presented, in this paper, the description of the family and genera, as well as the intergeneric and, infrageneric keys. Comments about the distribution and the ecology of the species are given.
