O primeiro deles se refere a um questionamento do dispositivo antropocêntrico que opera no pensamento antropológico, discutindo seu processo recorrente de delimitação da vida humana como uma vida qualificada, política, em detrimento da vida animal como desqualificada, mecânica. O segundo passo indica elementos constitutivos de um pensamento ecológico que não se subordina ao tipo de reducionismo presente na oposição clássica entre cultura e natureza. A partir desses dois passos, o termo multiespécie é discutido em função do diagnóstico do esgotamento do aparato conceitual fundado no exclusivismo do humano e na ideia da natureza como um pano de fundo para as ações humanas.
