The increase in the number of publications is remarkable, especially in the last decade, and in these papers many authors discuss and propose methods for analysis, research approaches, as well as basic concepts and related biological phenomena. This fruitful task in the generation of ideas and knowledge has radically changed the ways in which beta diversity is conceptualized, appreciated, and analyzed, resulting in a renovated and fresh framework, with an enormous potential for application in ecology, biogeography, and conservation biology.
